DEFINITION…
A power tool is a tool that is actuated by an additional power source and mechanism other than the solely manual labor used with hand tools.
HISTORY… The lathe is the oldest power tool, being
known to the ancient Egyptians (albeit in a hand-powered form).
Early industrial revolution-era factories had batteries of power tools driven by belts from overhead shafts.
The prime power source was a water wheel or (later) a steam engine.
The introduction of the electric motor (and electric distribution networks) in the 1880s made possible the self-powered stationary and portable tools we know today.

A drill is a tool fitted with a cutting tool attachment or driving tool attachment, usually a drill bit or driver bit, used for drilling holes in various materials or fastening various materials together with the use of fasteners.
A chainsaw (or chain saw) is a portable mechanical saw, powered by electricity, compressed air, hydraulic power, or most commonly a two-stroke engine.
An angle grinder, also known as a side grinder or disc grinder, is a handheld power tool used for cutting, grinding and polishing.
1. When and how should you inspect power tools?i. Inspect tools for any damage prior to each use.
ii. Check the handle and body casing of the tool for cracks or other damage.
iii. If the tool has auxiliary or double handles, check to see that they installed securely.
2. What should you do if you find a tool defective?
I. If a tool is defective, remove it from service, and tag it clearly "Out of service for repair".
II. Replace damaged equipment immediately - do not use defective tools "temporarily".
III. Have tools repaired by a qualified person - do not attempt field repairs.
3. What should you do before using power tools?
i. Ensure that you have been properly trained to use the tool safely.
ii. Ensure that the power tool has the correct guard, shield or other attachment that the manufacturer recommends.
iii.Prevent shocks.
4. What should you do while using power tools?I. Wear or use personal protective equipment
(PPE) or clothing that is appropriate for the work you are doing.
II. Switch off the tools before connecting them to a power supply.
III. If a power cord feels more than comfortably warm or if a tool is sparking, have it checked by an electrician or other qualified person.
IV. Disconnect the power supply before making adjustments or changing accessories.
V.Remove any wrenches and adjusting tools before turning on a tool.
5. What should you avoid when using power tools?
i. Do not disconnect the power supply of the tool by pulling or jerking the cord from the outlet.
ii. Do not leave a running tool unattended.
iii. Do not use electric tools in wet conditions or damp locations unless tool is connected to a ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI).
iv. Do not expose electric power tools to rain or wet conditions; wet tools increase the likelihood of electric shock.
