After withholding basic rates and charges for the past five years as part of their dispute with the Makhado Municipality, the Soutpansberg Ratepayers Association (SRPA) received a mandate from their members to pay approximately R5 million over to the municipality.

“There are other avenues to ensure an improve-ment in service delivery.” This was the assurance given by Ms Inga Gilfillan, chairperson of the Soutpansberg Ratepayers Association, during the SRPA’s annual general meeting on 29 July.

With reference to the SRPA’s decision to pay over the money, the Makhado Municipality had committed themselves to writing off the interest accumulated over the five years on the accounts of the SRPA members. They have also agreed to investigate each individual account to ascertain in which cases the adjustment fees charged had been justified and in which not. According to the outcome of their investigation, the adjustment fees on some accounts might be written off. The process may take about two months, after which the SRPA will receive the correct amount to pay over.

Mr Solly Maano, vice-chairperson of the SRPA, said that paying over the money would indeed be a win-win situation, reiterating the sentiment of a previous speaker, Mr Frans van der Merwe. Van der Merwe also said that the quality of the service delivery had improved and that this was the original intent of the dispute.

Should individual SRPA members decide not to pay their individual accounts over, they would be liable for their own legal costs. In this regard, Mr Phillip Mosina said that it was not beneficial for especially older citizens to have court cases hang-ing over their heads. The majority of the members at the meeting were more senior.

As stated in the judgement of the Rademan-Mo-qhaka case and other relevant court cases, the municipality may consolidate different items on the municipal account and the customer cannot specify that the payment is for a certain item. Mr André Prinsloo, outgoing treasurer of the SRPA, said that taxpayers therefore no longer had legal grounds to withhold money.

The SRPA members decided that the association will continue as normal but decrease the commis-sion from 5% to 3%. That would be to keep the office and salaries going, as well as the attorney’s administration fees. The members will still pay their monthly accounts at Van Heerden and Ru-dolph attorneys. The benefit for the members will be that the SRPA manager will be available to sort out their individual problems and contact the relevant municipal officials on their behalf. That has been a relief for many, especially senior citizens and businessmen, who have difficulty or no time to

stand in queues or to be referred from pillar to post.In her chairperson’s report, Gilfillan mentioned

that out of more than 300 letters written to the Makhado Municipality, only 16 written answers had been received. “The definition of service de-livery is not clear enough,” Gilfillan said. She also mentioned a service delivery agreement document that the National Taxpayers Union is working on.

Ms Jana Smith thanked Gilfillan for her hard work as chairperson, the way in which she ac-quainted herself with the relevant legislation and her heart-and-soul commitment to the town.

Spore op die Savanne – Diereverse is die titel van die digbundel wat in November verlede jaar verskyn het. Binne-in die bundel is daar is ook foto’s van die diere waaroor die gedigte handel.

“Hierdie versameling dieregediggies is in my eie styl geskryf, ‘n styl wat eintlik nie erken word of bestaan nie, maar ek geniet dit, en van my lesers geniet dit om te lees oor die diere wat op die Suid-Afrikaanse savanne wei,” sê Charles.

Die gedigte bevat feite oor die diere en laat die leser nadink oor die unieke eienskappe van elke dier. Enkele gedigte beeld ook die digter se liefde vir die veld uit. “Ek is gebore op die Savanne en hopelik sal ek ook, soos vele voor my, eendag daar gaan rus,” sê Charles.

Hy sê dat wanneer iemand op sy oudag begin dig en stories skryf, die uitdagings nie juis mak-liker is nie. “Die drang tot die skepping van iets nuuts, iets unieks, lei my om daagliks te streef na hoër hoogtes … Solank ‘n mens se verstand helder kan bly, sal die skeppingsdrang gewis daar wees,” sê Charles.

The murder of the 36yearold Rumbidzai Manyere has led an anthropologist to journey to the Soutpansberg to gain more insight into the symbolism behind muti murders and the impact they have on the local community.

Wiebe de Jong, hailing from Amsterdam in the Netherlands, holds an MA degree in Cultural Anthropology from the Radboud University. He visited Durban during 2008 to research traditional healers and the way they offer consultation to their clients.

Since then, he has become interested in murders in which often innocent people are killed and butch-ered for muti or ritual purposes. According to De Jong, he found that there was a diverse community of traditional healers in Durban and muti was not a subject talked about openly.

However, it was not until he became in-volved with the Uni-versity of Ghent, in Belgium, that De Jong decided to pursue his research further. Following a successful research proposal to the university’s Department of African Studies, where he is also a teacher and PhD-re-searcher, he received the green light to carry out his research.

As for his visit to the Soutpansberg region, and more specifically the Vhembe district, De Jong hopes to understand the symbolism, culture, and impact behind muti murders better. “It is important for me to understand the impact that such murders have on the community. I’m not here to turn the traditional beliefs into hocus pocus but rather to treat them with respect,” said De Jong. He added that neighbouring countries like Zimbabwe and Mozambique might also be a reason for the high rate of these type of murders. “I would not be surprised if there would be an international trade

in body parts between these countries,” he said.De Jong also explained that he was trying to

see whether there was correlation between these violent types of murders and political or econom-ic influences. “I’m still in the early days of my research, but it would seem that, especially in the Limpopo province, muti murders are motivated by economic reasons,” said De Jong.

Since his arrival in Makhado (Louis Trichardt) last Friday, De Jong has had the opportunity to visit the local Magistrate’s Court to attended the case of Freddy Azwitamisi Tshikhudo (38), who is currently suspected of killing Manyere and mutilating her body. De Jong was also able to interview Manyere’s sister, who attended the court proceedings. De Jong also interviewed two people who were accused of a ritual murder at the Munun-

zu Farm outside of Elim on 16 May last year. In this particular case, the victim’s genitals were allegedly cut off before he was set alight.

De Jong believes that rumours about the impact that a muti murder might have, should not be underestimated. For example, a rumour about the strength of a particular person may be a reason to commit such a murder for some people. Further-more, a muti murder might lead to severe violence within a community, which sometimes targets not only the suspected muti murderer but also his/her family.

“My focus will therefore not only be on the gruesome part of such murders, but rather on the impact that they have on a society. I’m looking forward to get access to and learn more about the different communities here in the Soutpansberg,” said De Jong. Oom Wonnie is op 28 Julie 1951 in Messina gebore. Hier het hy sy laerskool- en hoër-skoolloopbaan voltooi. Na skool het hy sy elektrisiënsam-bag by die destydse MTD-myn,

of die kopermyn op Messina, geloop en voltooi. Gedurende hierdie tyd het hy vir Morgie ontmoet en is hulle op 13 Julie 1973 getroud. Ná die egpaar se troue het hulle vir ‘n kort rukkie in Potgietersrus (Mokopane) gewoon. Hierna het Wonnie en Morgie terug verhuis na Louis Trichardt waar Wonnie sy een-mansaak, ME Elektries, begin het. Hy het die besigheid tot en met sy afsterwe bedryf. Twee seuns, Jimmy en André, is uit die huwelik gebore. Beide die seuns bly tans saam met hulle gesinne in Nieu-Seeland.

Wonnie was versot op rugby gewees en ‘n getroue Bloubul-ondersteuner. Hy was ‘n persoon, onthou sy seuns, met ‘n groot hart, ‘n plat-op-die-aarde mens wat hulle gerig en gelei het. “Hy het ‘n groot aandeel in die mense wie ons vandag is. Ons is trots om

Erlanks te wees en as ‘n egge-noot, vader, oupa en vriend het hy ‘n groot leemte gelos met sy afsterwe,” het Jimmy en André gesê in ‘n brief vanuit Nieu-Seeland.

Die gesin bedank almal in die gemeenskap wat hulle in hulle routyd ondersteun het. “Ek wil nie iemand uitlos nie, daarom sê ek net dankie vir almal se gebe-de en hulp,” het Morgie gesê.

Renosterstropery buite beheer, sê landdros “Renosterstropery is buite beheer en neem astronomiese afmetings aan.” So het landdros Pat Cloete gesê tydens sy uitspraak waarin hy twee renosterstropers elkeen effektief ses jaar lank tronk toe gestuur het.

Duminisani Baloyi (33) en Enock Mutuque (48) is op 5 Mei vanjaar in die Phafuri-gedeelte van die Kruger Nasionale Park (KNP) voorgekeer en het aanvanklik vir die polisie probeer vlug. Tydens hul arrestasie is ‘n ongelisensieerde .458-jaggeweer, ammunisie, twee byle en twee renosterhorings in hulle besit gevind. Hulle is aangekla van die onwettige jag van ‘n beskermde spesie, die besit van ‘n onwettige vuurwapen en die onwettige besit van ammunisie.

Beide het tydens ‘n vorige hofverskyning skuldig gepleit op al die klagte teen hulle. Volgens hulle regsverteen-woordiger het Baloyi en Mutuque ook addisionele inligting aan die polisie gegee oor die persoon wat hulle sou betaal om die renoster te skiet. “Hulle is jammer oor wat hulle gedoen het en het geleer dat misdaad nie betaal nie,” het die prokureur getuig. Baloyi en Mutuque is glo elkeen R40 000 belowe vir ‘n suksesvolle jagtog.

Beide mans, wat van Mosambiek afkomstig is, het Donderdag (25ste) in die Streekhof in Makhado (Louis Trichardt) verskyn vir hulle vonnisopleg-ging. Tydens hierdie verskyning was daar al reeds 521 renosters regoor Suid-Afrika vermoor vir hulle horings.

‘n Spesialisgetuie wat ‘n omgewingsondersoek-beampte vir die KNP is, mnr. Mario Stolz, het dié statistieke ter strafverswaring vir die Staat aange-haal. Hy het verder getuig dat hy die vorige dag twee tonele waar renosters doodgemaak is, onder-soek het in die Mapungubwe Wêrelderfenisgebied.

Stolz het ook gesê dat daar na beraming nog 402 renosters voor die einde van die jaar uitgemoor kan word.

Cloete het in sy uitspraak Baloyi en Mutuque

bedank dat hulle hul samewerking vir die polisie gegee het. Hy het bygevoeg dat die mans se gedrag laakbaar was, want niemand sal die renoster kan waardeer nie. “Hy is nou dood en vir ewig verlore vir ons kinders,” het Cloete gesê.

Buiten vir die ses jaar gevangenisstraf waartoe die mans gevonnis is vir die onwettige jag, is hulle ‘n verdere vyf jaar gevonnis op die klag van die on-wettige vuurwapen en ‘n jaar tronkstraf vir die klag van die besit van onwettige ammunisie. Die laaste twee klagtes is saamgevoeg en sal samelopend met die eerste vonnis uitgedien word, wat beteken dat Baloyi en Mutuque effektief ses jaar gevangenis-straf ontvang het.

Van links na regs is Enock Mutuque (48) en Duminisani Baloyi (33) in die beskuldigingsbank tydens hulle vonnisoplegging in die streekhof in Makhado (Louis Trichardt) verlede Donderdag.

Vier vermeende renosterstropers wat vroeër in Julie aangekeer is, kan moontlik verbind word met nóg ander gevalle van renosterstropery.

Shumani Phaswana (47), Wilson Mavhungu (38), Thilivhali Mulaudzi en Michael Sithole (37) is op 13 Julie gearresteer in verband met ‘n renosterbul wat op die Maremani Reservaat (in die Musina-omgewing) afgemaai is vir sy horings. Hulle het op 15 Julie in die Musina Distrikshof verskyn op klagte wat verband hou met die jag van ‘n bewaarde spesie en die besit van ‘n ongelisen-sieerde vuurwapen. Die klag van die onwettige wapen hou verband met ‘n .458-jaggeweer wat in die mans se besit gevind is.

Volgens die polisie is die vier beskuldigdes aangekeer toe een glo na Maremani teruggekeer het hom ‘n tweede renoster te gaan skiet. Met dié renoster gaan dit intussen goed en daar word verwag dat hy ten volle sal herstel. Volgens wat die Zoutpansberger kon verneem, het die koeël

dwarsdeur die renoster getrek en was daar geen punt waarop die polisie ballistiese toetse kon uitvoer nie.

Daar bestaan ook ‘n moontlikheid dat die vier mans verbind kan word met ‘n voorval in die Nwanedi Natuurreservaat waar ‘n renosterkoei voor haar jong kalfie van kant gemaak is. Die kalfie, of Pemba soos hy nou bekend staan, is vir dood agtergelaat en later gered deur ‘n groep weldoeners. Hy is nou by The Rhino Orphange buite Mokopane.

Phaswana, Mavhungu en Mulaudzi is Suid-Af-rikaners, terwyl Sithole van Mosambiek afkomstig is. Alvier het weer Dinsdag in die hof verskyn. Mulaudzi is vrygelaat, maar staan nog steeds tereg op ‘n ander klag van renosterstropery waarvoor hy op R1 500 borg vrygelaat is.

Teen druktyd was die hof nog in sitting en is daar nog nie ‘n nuwe uitsteldatum vasgestel vir Phaswana, Mavhungu en Shitole nie.

The announcement that security was to be beefed up was barely cold or cable thieves destroyed expensive new infrastructure, leaving communities struggling without water once more.

On Monday, officials of the Vhembe District Municipality (VDM) and police stared in horror and disbelief at the scene of destruction at the Madombidzha pump station outside Makhado (Louis Trichardt). Every cable between the control box and the main pump, as well as the stand-by pump, was destroyed and the control box was empty.

The provisional estimation of the damage was more than R700 000. The contractor had just completed the work at the pump station and the equipment was brand new.

The theft and dam-aging of property took place sometime between Thursday and Sunday and was discovered on Monday morning. Mr David Mukosi, VDM’s manager of water ser-vices in Makhado, was devastated. “The contractor and his team moved out two weeks ago. He em-ployed his own security that moved out with him,” Mukosi said. He spoke on the subject of stealing the day before. “Yesterday I was in Gogobole with the tribal council and I urged them to tell their children that they must refrain from stealing government property,” Mukosi said.

The cable thieves entered the enclosure by forcing open a concrete palisade bar. They stood on a drum to open the top set of doors of the pump station building, gained access and forced the bottom doors open to be able to leave with their

spoils. Inside was some the remains of a small fire, presumably used to start burning the cables for the copper.

There are fourteen boreholes feeding the villages in the Madombidzha area. Ten are in the villages of Madombidzha, Magau, Ratidili, Gogobole and Tshioswe and of those 10, only one is operational and has not run dry. The other four boreholes are near the pump station and are working. Now all these villages are entirely without water once again.

Mr Timmy Shirindza, project manager from VDM’s technical services, was also there to assess the damage. “We shall engage the engineer who designed the pump station to see how best we can

make it more secure,” Shirindza said.

The VDM’s municipal manager, Mr Masala Ma-kumule, announced on 14 July that the security of infrastructure was to be beefed up. Sixty posts for security officers had been created for the whole of Vhembe. Evidently, they were not fast enough.

“We said a long time ago that an electronic se-

curity system must be installed, where alerts register on several cell phones when the control box is tampered with,” said Ms Inga Gilfillan, chairperson of the Soutpansberg Ratepayers As-sociation (SRPA). Mr Wally Schultz, chairperson of AfriForum Louis Trichardt, is furious. “We warned Vhembe on our very first meeting that security had to be a priority. They have agreed to install electronic security. This defies all logic: you spend all that money on infrastructure and security is neglected. AfriForum is going to take strong action on the negligence of security. It constitutes gross negligence,” said Schultz.

In his State of the Municipality address on 29 June, the mayor of the Makhado Municipality declared his intention to freeze accounts for residents in the R293 townships surrounding Makhado (Louis Trichardt). The DA reacted in no uncertain terms and said that the freezing of accounts was not a decision for Council.

“As a way of encouraging our people to help us in developing their towns, we intend to freeze all accounts for all residents in R293 townships as a way of enabling them to start paying from the first of August 2013,” Mayor David Muthavatsindi said during his address in the Vuwani Town Hall.

DA Cllr Brian du Plooy said last week that there was no such thing as freezing an account. “No-where in the National Treasury do we read about freezing accounts and there has been no resolution of Council to that effect. This is outrageous! People need to pay for services that had been delivered. The municipality needs the revenue in order to render services,” Du Plooy said. He added that in the case where residents of these towns might have been billed for services not received, an investigation must be done and their accounts must be amended. “Furthermore, everyone should be treated equally. If some residents’ accounts can be ‘frozen’, then other residents should be treated equally and also have their accounts frozen,” Du Plooy said.

The DA also commented on other issues raised in the address. “During the 2012/13 financial year, we made several commitments to deliver basic ser-vices to our communities and we are proud to an-nounce that we have met most of the obligations,” the mayor said in his budget speech. Du Plooy said that the DA wished to differ. “They have not ‘met

most of the obligations’, since the municipality underspent R27 million of the municipal infrastruc-ture grant (MIG) in that financial year, an amount which they were obliged to return,” Du Plooy said.

The mayor also announced the rehabilitation, refurbishing and tarring of streets in Eltivillas in the new financial year, the resealing of Krogh, Jeppe and Kruger Street in Makhado (Louis Trichardt), and access roads to villages, as well as the building of two community halls, one in Dzanani and one in Waterval. Though he appreciates the fact that community halls will be an asset, Du Plooy said that residents there might have benefited more from urgently needed infrastructure.

Concerning electricity, Du Plooy said that, fortunately, the mon-ies had been allocated correctly in the new fi-nancial year, referring to the municipal project to bring electricity to about 24 villages and Es-kom electrifying some 11 villages. Concerning the

upgrading of substations in town, Du Plooy said that it would really take proficient planning and organization to find finance for the maintenance of the electrical structures in town with the current revenue that was being generated.

Du Plooy reiterated the mayor’s praise of the municipal manager. The DA wished to congratulate Mr Isaac Mutshinyali on the improvements that he had accomplished, especially in terms of reaction time. “The finance department is also attempting to get their systems in place. Good governance is achievable, but there is still a long way to go in terms of the rectification of former mistakes and improvement on the systems. Good governance always needs to be improved and sustained,” Du Plooy said.

The Department of Health in Limpopo has warned members of the public about a job scam by certain culprits allegedly offering employment at Mankweng Hospital and the provincial head office.

Provincial spokesperson Ms Sinenhlanhla Gu-mede states in a media release that the department received reports of the scam through unemployed individuals from Mankweng and Polokwane, saying that they were being asked to pay differ-ent amounts, starting from R1 000, which were to be deposited through Shoprite Money Send in exchange for employment. “The department would like to distance itself from any individual or advert that asks money from unsuspecting job seekers in exchange for employment. If and when the department has to fill vacancies, posts will be advertised and selections made from the applica-tions received,” said Gumede.

Na ‘n onaangename voorval is die kommunikasie tussen die Makhado Munisipaliteit en die Soutpansberg Belastingbetalersvereninging (SBBV) weer herstel.

Die munisipale bestuurder, mnr. Sakkie Mut-shinyali, het op 23 April nie die bestuurder van die Soutpansberg Belastingbetalersvereniging, mnr. Phillip Olivier, ‘n geleentheid gegun om sy teenwoordigheid by ‘n rioolstorting te verduidelik nie. Die munisipaliteit het ‘n medianavraag oor die aangeleentheid op 9 Mei geantwoord deur te sê “Mnr. Olivier se teenwoordigheid was nie vir die munisipaliteit aanvaarbaar nie, aangesien hy geen rol gespeel het om die munisipaliteit bewus te maak van die rioolprobleem nie.” In dieselfde antwoord het die munisipaliteit klem gelê op die individu se reg om direk met die munisipaliteit te kommunikeer en nie die dienste van ‘n middelman of belangegroep (soos die SBBV of AfriForum) te gebruik nie. Olivier het egter al weke voordat die munisipale bestuurder persoonlik na die rioolpro-bleem kom kyk het, die munisipaliteit in kennis gestel van die probleem van een van die SBBV-lede by ‘n fabriek in die industriële gebied.

Intussen het Mutshinyali en Olivier die saak oor ‘n middagete op 17 Julie besleg. Op 22 Julie het hulle weer ontmoet. Hierdie keer was meer lede van beide partye teenwoordig. “Belangrike sake, soos die aanpassings (adjustments) wat gedurig op rekeninge verskyn en ander probleme wat dik-wels by die SBBV aangemeld word, is bespreek.

Hulle het onderneem om ‘n verduideliking van die verskillende soorte aanpassings op rekenings aan die media beskikbaar te stel. Daar is ook gesê dat watertenks op strategiese plekke in die dorp opgesit is,” sê Olivier.

Op hul beurt het die munisipaliteit by monde van hul woordvoerder, mnr. Louis Bobodi, gesê dat die munisipale bestuurder nooit die “kommunikasie-deur “ vir die SBBV of enige ander organisasie toegemaak het nie. Bobodi het bevestig dat daar ‘n vergadering met ‘n afvaardiging van die SBBV gehou is om die “billing system” duidelik te maak. “Die verhouding was nooit persoonlik nie en het sedertdien nie ‘n knou gekry nie en is gebaseer op gesonde, professionele werksetiek en nie op enige persoon se slegte of goeie gevoelens nie,” het Bobodi in ‘n e-pos gesê.

Die algemene verduideliking van hoe die aan-passings op die rekenings werk, sal na verwagting nog ontvang word. Menige inwoner het al die R190.20 (voorheen so R170) op rekeninge gekry sonder dat daar presies aangedui word waarvoor die aanpassings is.

Teen Maandag hierdie week was die watertenks nog nie op die bepaalde plekke ontplooi nie. “Ons het reeds die stellasies van die tenks voltooi, maar dit nog nie na die strategiese plekke geneem nie. ‘n Paar jaar gelede het ons 140 tenks ( 40 in die dorp en 100 in die buitewyke) geplaas en feitlik alles is gesteel,” het mnr. David Mukosi, munisipale watersuperintendent, gesê.

MM praat darem weer met belastingbetalers

Die Makhado Munisipaliteit en die SBBV het ´n vergadering gehou om, onder andere, die aanpassings op rekenings te bespreek. “Hulle het onderneem om ‘n verduideliking van die verskillende soorte aanpassings op rekenings aan die media beskikbaar te stel,” het die bestuurder van die Soutpansberg Belastingbetalersvereniging, mnr. Phillip Olivier, gesê. Menige inwoner het al die R190.20 (voorheen minder) op rekeninge gekry sonder dat daar presies aangedui word waarvoor die aanpassings is.

‘n Noodoperasie vir ‘n onderwyser en bivakorganiseerder is deur die flinke optrede van ‘n plaaslike dokter geïnisieer, sodat hy steeds kon voortgaan met die bivak.

Mnr. Gerard Rossouw van Hoërskool Louis Trichardt is al sinoniem met die jaarlikse bivak vir Graad 10-leerlinge. Hierdie jaar het ‘n ongeluk so amper sy reëlings in die wiele gery. Intussen kan mnr. Rossouw nie uitgepraat raak oor dr. Casper Venter se hulp en bystand en akkurate diagnose nie.

Rossouw het Maandag, 15 Ju lie, saam met twee instruk-teurs agter op ‘n bakkie gestaan terwyl hulle besig was om die terrein te verken vir die bivak daardie Woensdag op die plaas Koedoesveldt van me. Steyn op Waterpoort. Dit was ongeveer

10:30. Rossouw was besig om iets in verband met die terrein te beduie, toe sy voet vashaak en hy van die bakkie afval. Hy was ‘n bietjie deurmekaar, maar het die Prognos Mediese Sentrum geskakel en gesê dat hy vermoed sy sleutelbeen gebreek is.

By die spreekkamer aange-kom, is hy dadelik gehelp. “Al wat in my kop was, was om so gou moontlik terug te wees by die bivakterrein om alles in orde te kry. Dr. Casper het gesê ‘kom ons kry jou net eers gesond en dan kry ons jou by die bivak’,” vertel Rossouw.

Die X-straal plate het bevestig dat die linkersleutelbeen gebreek is en dat ‘n paar ribbes af was. “Dr Casper het vir my gesê òf hy spalk my en dit neem sewe weke, òf hy laat my opereer en ek kan die volgende dag my hand

gebruik. Hy het my afspraak met die spesialis op Polokwane gereël. My bed was bespreek, die operasie was bespreek, die kodes, die magtiging, alles was gedoen,” sê Rossouw. Sy vrou, Jakkie, het hom Polokwane toegeneem vir die operasie by die MediClinic en hom teruggebring nadat hy 09:00 die volgende oggend ont-slaan is. Dieselfde dag het hy die bakkie bestuur om toerusting by die plaas te gaan aflewer. Net hy mag die bakkie, deur Thompsons Motors geborg, bestuur het. Die drie-dag bivak het goed afgeloop.

“Ek wil dr. Casper bedank en ek kan net met lof van sy optre-de praat. Bivak 2013 salueer u, dokter!” sê Rossouw. Hy vertel dat alles net so goed in plek geval het. “Baie dankie ook aan dr. Org van Zyl en die personeel van die MediClinic,” sê Rossouw.

Die grootste handleiding van liefde is wanneer ‘n persoon sy lewe aflê

om ‘n ander persoon se lewe te red. Sal jy bereid wees om te sterf vir iemand wat jy liefhet? Ek vertrou jy sal. Sal jy bereid wees om vir ‘n vriend te sterf? Miskien sal jy. Sal jy bereid wees om vir iemand te sterf wat jou haat? Ek glo nie.

Jesus het nie vir ons gesterf omdat ons vir Hom lief is nie. Die Bybel vertel ons die waarheid in verband met Sy dood en ons houding teenoor Hom toe Hy gesterf het. Romeine 5:8 sê: “Maar God bewys Sy liefde vir ons juis hierin dat Christus vir ons gesterf het toe ons nog sondaars was.”

Dink daaraan. Die heilige Seun van God het sondaars so lief gehad dat Hy gesterf het om hulle te red. Wat ‘n volmaakte liefde! Die Bybel sê vir ons: “Ons het lief omdat God ons eerste liefgehad het.” (1 Johannes 4:19).

Wat ‘n groot skuld van liefde is ons nie aan ons groot God en Verlosser, Jesus Christus, verskuldig nie?

Het jy Jesus lief? Wys jy jou liefde aan Hom deur gehoorsaamheid aan Sy gebooie? Hy het al jou skuld op Hom geneem en so ook jou skande en straf.

Danksy ‘n spanpoging van verskeie ondernemings in Makhado (Louis Trichardt) is die ambulans van mev. Maud Myburgh weer op die pad. Imperial GM het ‘n volledige diens geborg, S&S Bande het nuwe bande geborg en Simm’s Auto het gesorg dat die elektriese bedrading weer regkom. Myburgh het haar innige dank uitgespreek teenoor almal wat ‘n handjie bygesit het, asook Johan Rootman, Tobie Lombard en Mimmie Bell van Imperial GM, Wayne Steyn van S&S Bande en Ronnie Klusmann van Simm’s Auto. Van links na regs is Johan Rootman (bestuurder van Imperial GM), Tobie Lombard en Mimmie Bell by Maud en haar ambulans.

‘n Leser het verlede week hierdie foto ingestuur. Hy sê hy het op 23 Julie verby die magistraatskantore in Munnikstraat in Makhado (Louis Trichardt) gery en opgemerk dat die staatsamptenare die land se vlag onderstebo gehys het. “Ek wonder wat sal Madiba en ons President Zuma hiervan dink,” wou die leser weet.

I just knew you are the one ...

A man was dining alone in a fancy restaurant and there was a gorgeous redhead sitting at the next table.

He had been checking her out since he sat down, but lacked the nerve to talk with her. Suddenly she sneezed, and her glass eye came flying out of its socket towards the man.

He reflexively reached out, grabbed it out of the air, and handed it back.

‘Oh my, I am so sorry,’ the woman said, as she popped her eye back in place. ‘Let me buy your dinner to make it up to you.’

They enjoyed a wonderful dinner together, and afterwards they went to the theatre followed by drinks. They talked, they laughed, she shared her deepest dreams and he shared his. She listened to him with interest.

After paying for everything, she asked him if he would like to come to her place for a nightcap and stay for breakfast. They had a wonderful, wonderful time.

The next morning, she cooked a gourmet meal with all the trimmings. The guy was amazed. Everything had been so incredible!

‘You know,’ he said, ‘you are the perfect woman.. Are you this nice to every guy you meet?’

‘No,’ she replies. ‘You just happened to catch my eye.’

Die gewilde Akkedis Bergfietswedren op 10 Augustus vorm vanjaar deel van die Akkedis Extreme Sportnaweek.

Die bergfietswedrenne sal op 9 Augustus voorafgegaan word deur ‘n stoeitoernooi, wat aangebied word deur die Louis Trichardt Stoeiklub. Dié klub is vanjaar mede-aanbieder van die naweek saam met die or-ganiseerders, die P&L Fiets-ryklub. Inskrywing vir die stoei toernooi kos R80 per deelnemer (R30 vir massaverskuiwing) en die sluitingsdatum vir inskrywings is 5 Au-gustus. Mediese toetse word die dag van die toernooi vanaf 07:00 tot 07:30 gedoen, met die inmeet wat vanaf 07:30 tot 08:00 plaasvind.

Tydens Saterdag se wedrenne sal daar weer ‘n 10km pretrit wees vir die jongklomp, en vir diegene wat vir bietjie meer kans sien, is daar die 35km halfmarathon. Vir diegene wat dink hulle is fiks genoeg is daar die moordende 70km marathon. Deel-name in die onderskeie wedrenne kos onder-skeidelik R40, R80 en R150, met tydelike li-sensies vir die 35km en 70km wat R35 sal kos. Deelnemers aan die 70km wedren sal om 08:00 wegspring. Die wegspringtye vir die 35km en 10km is onderskeidelik 08:15 en 08:30. Die wedrenor-ganiseerder is Johan van Dijkhorst (082 740 8740). Daar kan die naweek van die wedrenne ingeskryf word, maar inskry-wings vorms kan ook vooraf aangevra word

Lede van die Soutpansberg Posduifklub het die afgelope naweek hul EOK (Enige Ouderdom Keur)wedvlug, asook ‘n Ope Bwedvlug, oor ‘n afstand van 742 km vanaf Komtiekie beslis, met T&H Meyer wat weereens spog met twee eersteplekke.

wenduif die afstand voltooi met ‘n wenspoed van 1335.9 meter per minuut. Hulle was ook 3de en 4de. Louis Gossmann was 2de, 6de en 11de, Marx Hok-ke 5de, 7de en 18de, Elize & Tim 8ste, 12de en 16de, Danie Lourens 9de, 13de en 17de, Tiny de Klerk 10de, 14de en 15de en Handro Fourie 19de en 20ste.

Saturday, 20 July, heralded a perfect day for sport when 20 squash players from Polokwane, Tzaneen and Makhado (Louis Trichardt) participated in the annual doubles challenge hosted by the Soutpansberg (SPB) Squash Club.

With the sun shining outdoors and a vibrant mood inside the building, it was promising to be a good day of squash. The teams were divided into two pools, each of which was to play a round

robin, followed by play-offs to determine final positions. After a morning of very evenly contest-ed games, two teams were left to compete for first and second places.

Current title holders Ronel and Erik Welman of the SPB Squash Club eventually succumbed to last year’s runners-up and this year’s title holders, fellow club members Dirk du Preez and Pieter Guilluame.

A great day of squash played

with a true spirit of sportsman-ship was ended with the prize giving and a braai.

Thanks go to the tournament’s generous sponsors without whom such a challenge would not be possible. Hoërskool Louis Trichardt behaal ‘n oortuigende oorwinning in hul eerste Beeldtrofeeuitspeelwedstryd. Die vreugde van hul oorwinning is egter ná die blaas van die eindfluitjie ontsier deur ‘n vuisslanery op die veld.

Die Triegies se O/16-span, die enigste span van die skool wat deurgedring het na die Beeldtrofee-reeks, het Saterdag op hul tuisveld teen Hoërskool Wilgers te staan gekom. Mnr. Henry Denner, skoolhoof en een van die afrigters van die O/16’s, sê dat die seuns die eerste helfte baie goed gespeel het. Die halftyd telling was 19-3 in

Triegies se guns. In die tweede helfte het die Triegies ‘n bietjie moeiliker gelewe en elke span het ‘n drie gedruk om die telling op 24-8 te staan te bring. Hulle verdedi-ging in die tweede helfte was uitstaande.

“Hier en daar was daar al ‘n gestoot tydens die wedstryd. Ongelukkig het daar ‘n vuisslanery net na die blaas van die eindfluitjie ontstaan, veroorsaak deur een van hulle [Hoërskool Wilgers] spelers. Gelukkig het ons dit vinnig gestop. Dit is die tipe goed wat ons nie wil hê nie,” sê Denner.

Die skool se rugby-organiseerder, mnr.

Johan Minnie, sê dat so iets onaanvaarbaar is, maar dat die saak reeds met Hoërskool Wilgers se rugby-organiseerder opgeneem en uitgeklaar is.

“Die stadsjapies was ‘n bietjie baklei-erig, maar ons seuns het lekker hardloop rugby gespeel. Hulle het ten minste vier maal regdeur gehardloop. Dit was briljant. Ons het ‘n oulike spannetjie met ‘n goeie gees,” sê een van die ouers, me. Hester Bayes. Triegies se O/16’s speel hierdie Saterdag in die Beeld-kwarteindstryd teen Hoërskool Barberton op Barberton se velde.

Vuisslanery demp Beeld-wen

Hoërskool Louis Trichardt en Hoërskool Wilgers van Pretoria se O/16 rugbymanne pak mekaar in die skrum op hulle tuisveld. Die Triegies kom as oorwinnaars van die veld met ‘n eindtelling van 248. Hulle dring deur na die kwarteindstryd van die Beeldtrofee en speel Saterdag teen Hoërskool Barberton op Barberton se velde. Foto verskaf.

Wally Walberer en Andy Leach het Saterdag, 27 Julie, as wenners van Tafelronde Zoutpansberg 66 se gholfdag by die Soutpansberg Gholfklub uit die stryd getree.
