Base-Applied in a putty or thick layer between the tooth and the restoration to protect the pulp from chemical irritation, temperature changes, electrical protection, and mechanical injury. Bases are strong enough to be placed under restorative materials and to support the materials from occlusal stresses.

MANIPULATION 1- fluff the powder for uniform density

Cleaning

To clean material that has hardened on the spatula or glass slab, wipe it with alcohol or orange solvent.

Mixing Zinc Oxide Eugenol Cement: Two-Paste System EQUIPMENT AND SUPPLIES

Two-paste zinc oxide eugenol (accelerator and base)

Paper pad Cement spatula 2 x 2 gauze sponge (moistened) Plastic filling instrument

PROCEDURE STEPS 1. Dispense the amount of material required for the procedure. This is equal

lengths of the accelerator and the base. They usually are placed parallel to each other on the paper pad.

2. Gather the materials and mix into a homogenous mass. Spread over a small area, then gather. Repeat the process. The material should be a creamy mix that follows the spatula up for an inch (luting consistency).
