ZigZag Ski School’s guide to Grand Massif lift passes “DEBUTANT” pass As a first-time skier you’ll only need a DEBUTANT pass for your first few days while you master the basics. Why pay more for slopes you don’t use? Advantages: A débutant pass is cheap as it covers just the beginners area, which means you’re not paying for access to slopes you don’t yet ski well enough to use. Disadvantages: The downside is that you can only buy debutant passes daily, so you’ll need to queue up each morning to buy them. ZigZag tip: Make the most of a cheap débutant pass for the first day or two and then buy a 4 or 5-day Massif pass when you’re ready to move out of the beginners area. “MASSIF” pass A MASSIF pass allows you access to Samoëns, Morillon, Les Carroz and Sixt resorts, which are all linked. There’s heaps of terrain for several days’ exploration, with lots of forest trails. Advantages: A Massif pass is cheaper than a Grand Massif pass, as it doesn’t include Flaine. Disadvantages: Access to Flaine is not included. ZigZag tip: Save money by buying a week’s Massif pass and then buy Grand Massif extensions on the days you want to ski to Flaine. Only upper intermediate and advanced skiers will benefit from accessing Flaine. “GRAND MASSIF” pass MASSIF + FLAINE = GRAND MASSIF. This pass covers the full Grand Massif ski area (Flaine, Samoëns, Morillon, Les Carroz and Sixt). If you’re planning to ski to Flaine, then you’ll need a Grand Massif pass. Advantages: Full access to the whole ski area up to 2500m altitude, with 265km of pistes and loads of off-piste to enjoy at your leisure. Disadvantages: The most expensive option, there’s no point in buying a Grand Massif pass unless you intend to ski to Flaine. ZigZag tip: If you’re skiing more than 10 Grand Massif days in the season, consider buying a season pass. UNDER-5 or Over 75? Present proof of age at the ticket desk and you’ll get a free ski pass! Remember, you still need to carry a pass, even if it’s free. Buying lift passes Passes are available for purchase at the bottom of the gondola between 8.30am and 7pm each day during the winter, or online via http://www.skipass-grand-massif.com/ ZigZag tip: Buy your lift passes the night before you intend to start skiing in order to avoid long queues in the morning. Lift queue priority During your lessons with a ZigZag instructor, you’ll benefit from full lift queue priority.
