    Experience Art Locally

Since Midland is centrally isolated, you might not think experience with art would be

easily accessible. In addition to several commercial art galleries, art is displayed ingalleries located at Midland College, Haley Memorial Library and History Center,Museum of the Southwest, Petroleum Museum, several banks, the new hospital andcommercial buildings throughout the city. Even our underpasses are bedecked withpaint that simulates core plugs from oil wells.

Midland has two Charles O. Perry sculptures Solo outside in front of the SummitBuilding andQuartet the sculpture inside the building. Perrys sculptures can befound all over the world, but few cities have two of these mathematically inspired

    works of art.

Our community is lucky enough to have an Arts Council of Midland that promotes thelocal arts and artists. One fallevent The Annual Artists Studio Tour gives attendeesthe chance to view real artists at work in their own studios. The Arts Council ofMidland also boasts Midlands longest running downtown annual event which will beheld April 5-7 in 2013 offering Midlanders more art experiences.

One of the newest commercial art galleries is ArtiZen a wonderful place to meet

talented local artists and craftspeople. ArtiZen also offers workshops for aspiringartists. You can visit this new shop located across from the mall on Loop 250 or visittheir website artizenoutlet.com. Workshops and events are listed on the website aswell as the wonderful local artists featured at the shop.Often we think art is to be experienced in other locales, but art can be appreciatedand experienced close to home.Try these suggestions to experience art in Midland.

    Letter from LoisLadies,

I am excited about our joint meeting with Epsilon Eta on April 1. We will bemeeting at the Helen Greathouse Manor, it is the high rise building at Manor Park. The program will be presented by Nathan Knowles, Executive Director of the I-20Wildlife Preserve and Jenna Welch Nature Study Center, Inc. If you have not visitedthis new treasure you will be pleasantly surprised to find we have this preserve righthere in Midland.

Our hostesses are working with the hostesses from Epsilon Eta to provide a light

snack supper for us. We will be receiving information about our Founders' DayLuncheon and Style Show to be held on Saturday, May 4. You won't want to misseither of these two events.

Our year is quickly coming to an end and we will be making plans for the next yearsoon. A couple of things you might want to consider and plan for are our StateConvention to be held in Austin and the Southwest Regional Convention in Branson.

If you haven't already heard, Natalie Eustace and Lois Templeton have been asked tosing a duet at the Southwest Regional Convention. We need to be there to support

our own, as this is a special honor. Why not plan your summer vacation around oneor both of these conventions. See the dates elsewhere in this newsletter.

We all need to continue to look for outstanding educators that would enjoy being apart of Delta Kappa Gamma and be an asset to our chapter. If we don't talk aboutDelta Kappa Gamma, women educators will never know what they are missing. Weneed to be proud of our organization and share that with others.

    You are the best,

    Lois Hagins
