FEBRUARY 2013 ZETA TAU ALPHA

Crown Day 2013 Crown Day was the sisterhood planned to

celebrate all of the wonderful new members that have joined our chapter during our CROWN

events!

Tulle and Tutus!

Dressed to the nine’s in our Crown Day shirts, many sisters wore bright colored skinny jeans and some even had tutus to match!

Games!

Imagine drawing a picture on a plate, while it is on your head, and you cannot look at it! Not as easy as it sounds. The image to the left is our sister Brittany Berry, she did her best at drawing the ideal “Zeta Lady”, strawberries and all!

Family! A beautiful family is an understatement for the picture on the right. We have 3 members of one family! Little Tiffany Halliburton, Big Mary Kate Gaters and Grand Big Casey Hazlewood!

Big & Little! Big Cesalee Mullen and Little Kasey Smith pose for a picture!

Lip Sync: So You Think You Can Move? What is Lip Sync?

Lip Sync is a performance in which members of our chapter perform skits and lip sync to different songs based on the one word that we are given. The lovely ladies to the right were the coaches of Lip Sync this year, Megan Leander and Taylor Wade. They did an outstanding job!

New Members

What amazing New Members we have! Many of them competed this year in Lip Sync. We are grateful to have a Fraternity filled with amazing sisters that will help at the drop of a pin!

So you think you can move? Our Lip Sync word this year was move! The ladies made up a television show, “So You Think You Can Move?”. We had two hostesses, four “judges”, which were sisters that acted like celebrities and auditioned with other sisters to see who would MOVE the best. Through dance offs and upsets, Nicki Minaj (Lauren Tyree) was the winner!

Bethany Scott Foundation This year the profit raised from both Lip Sync and the Step Show went to a Senior Alpha Omicron Pi, Bethany Scott. In late 2012 Bethany was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer. We were very lucky to be able to participate and aid in the fundraising process through our involvement with

Line Dance: Michael Jackson Style

What is Line Dance? Line Dance is a performance in which members of our chapter perform a themed synchronized dance routine around a designated square. The lovely ladies to the right were the coaches of Line Dance this year. Chelsey Lassiter and Danielle Johnson did an outstanding job!

2nd Place

The ladies this year earned second place in Line Dance! As Lauren Tyree told us, “I have never been so proud to be a Zeta Tau Alpha”. Her words really warmed the hearts of all the Delta Mu ladies that competed. This was the first time in 4 years we have placed in Line

Beat it, just beat IT!

This year our song choice was Michael Jackson’s “Beat It”. With long practices and late nights, the Line Dance ladies gave it all they had on the floor and it truly showed.

One heck of an emcee We were lucky to have our very own President, Shelby Whitt, as one of the hosts of Line Dance. If you were to ask Shelby, it took all she had to not jump up and down with excitement when she saw the winners!

The Step Show

What is the Step Show? The Step Show a performance in which our chapter chooses a theme and use a choreographer to put together a step routine. Our theme, as seen in the pictures, was Bollywood. This year our coach was a member of Zeta Phi Beta.

Bollywood Style Props See all those absolutely amazing props? Well they were all created and painted by hand by the beautiful Allie Avery. See the awesome levitating Melinda below us, well that prop was made by Niki Hensley’s father Rick Hensley and brother Tanner Hensley! Without all of this help our Step Show

would not be the success it was. Thank you!

Our beautiful goddess! What is a Bollywood theme without a goddess, of course we had to have one! Pictured right is Melinda Dortch, a beautiful goddess that just so happens to be levitating, all thanks to the men of the Hensley family!

Zeta Day Zeta Day Zeta Day is the yearly gathering of all collegiate and alumnae chapters in a specific state. The Knoxville Alumnae Chapter hosted Zeta Day at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. Next year Zeta Day will be held in Martin, Tennessee by the Martin Alumnae Chapter.

National President Pictured left, are some Delta Mu ladies with our National President, Mrs. Keeley McDonald Riddle, who came to TN Zeta Day all the way from New Jersey! What a treat!

Awards Delta Mu and one specific Delta Mu lady received quite a few awards! Pictured right, Delta Mu was given a Major Donor award, as well as the Building Blocks Collegiate Sisterhood Award. Christine Hassell received both the Zeta Lady award and the Outstanding EC Member Award. Way to go Christine!!

Beautiful ladies

This year, not too many Delta Mu ladies were able to attend Zeta Day; the Step Show was the night before. Pictured left, are the beautiful ladies and alumnae that had the honor of being at Zeta Day. What a great representation of our chapter.

to Breast Cancer Education and Awareness.

Contact our director of Philanthropy, Brittany Berry, at [email protected] for more questions. If you cannot make it to our event, but would like to donate to a great cause, please contact Brittany as well.

In September 2012, the ZTA Foundation launched a new initiative to spread the message about breast health awareness — www.takechargethinkpink.com. This program is a great compliment to ZTA's pink ribbon distribution, taking breast cancer awareness a step further.

February Recipe! Cheesecake filled strawberries! One of a Zeta Lady’s favorite

things, strawberries! Recipe is brought to you by Christine Hassell 1. Rinse strawberries, remove top and

3. Add cream cheese mix to piping bag (Zip-locks work well too)

4. Add graham crackers to plastic bag and mash up until very fine

5. Fill strawberries with cream cheese mixture

6. Add graham cracker crumbs. Enjoy

“Sisterhood is many things. It is a warm smile on a cold and rainy day, a friendly hug, a cheerful hello… It’s all that a good and lasting friendship is, only better. It is treasured. It

is sacred. It is knowing that there will always be someone there for you. It is dreams shared, and goals achieved. It is counting on others

and being counted on. It is real.”
