1. Promote the Positive1. Promote the Positive

Focusing on the personal, positive impact of ZTA when explaining it to yourparents will help them understand how Zeta Tau Alpha is helping you grow as anindividual. From community service and philanthropy to leadership opportunities, academic responsibility and ZTA’s sisterhood, I recommend focusing on yourown chapter’s past accomplishments and planned activities to help your parentssee how being involved in this sorority will strengthen you as a college studentand also after graduation.

2. Don’t Forget the Important Subjects2. Don’t Forget the Important Subjects

A few of the most important (and sometimes overlooked) details of sororities canbe the financial commitment, potentially living in ZTA housing and balancing all ofyour other commitments. Don’t forget to talk about these aspects whenexplaining ZTA to your parents so they receive as much information as possible.Be sure to develop a plan with them on how you will handle these important partsof being in a sorority.

3. Be Understanding of Their Concerns3. Be Understanding of Their Concerns

Some parents may have concerns about fraternities and sororities in general, sobe sure to hear what they have to say and let them know you understand theirconcerns. Whether their questions are about hazing, partying/drinking or otherthings they’ve heard, my advice is to point out where Zeta Tau Alpha stands onthese issues by providing proper information about the policies of ZTA. In theend, they will appreciate that you are respectful of their concerns and that youare willing to talk about them.

4. Invite Them to an Event4. Invite Them to an Event

What better way to show your parents and family what Zeta Tau Alpha is aboutthan encouraging them to attend an event hosted by your chapter? This way, theywill be able to experience ZTA from your standpoint and meet many of the sistersthat make our organization so special. Whether it is Parents’ Weekend or yourchapter’s philanthropy event, invite them to come experience ZTA forthemselves!

5. Use Your Resources5. Use Your Resources

If you don’t know where to begin when explaining ZTA to your parents, use theresources provided on the web. ZTA’s national websitenational website is a great starting pointto showcase the purpose of our organization and all the ways our sisterhoodseeks to fulfill its mission. Use the website and ZTA’s national social media

seeks to fulfill its mission. Use the website and ZTA’s national social mediachannels as resources to show the benefit Zeta Tau Alpha has already offered towomen just like you.
