Holistic Facial Fitness Through Massage

Massage has been around for over 5,000 years but was brought to America by two French men in the

mid-19th century. Therefore, most the basic massage moves are French. Massage means “friction of

kneading” in Arabic it means “to touch for feel” and, in Greek, means “to handle, touch or working

with.”

My Zen Facelift Facial involves manipulating the skin, fascia, lymph, joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles

and bones of the face, scalp, posterior, lateral and anterior neck, and shoulders. I have coupled

traditional Western Massage techniques with Eastern modalities to create a very therapeutic and

balanced facial. These techniques will vacillate between being structured and unstructured, stationary

and moving, speed and depth, warm and cold, pinning and stretching, moving across the muscle fibers

to shorten and lock (cross fiber) and with the muscle fibers to lengthen (linear). We will be learning and

using vibration, pinching (pincement), squeezing (petrissage), lifting and pulling, rolling and pressing

(lymph/metabolic waste), rolling and lifting (muscle), rhythm and pressure (acupressure), and gliding

(effleurage) techniques. Don’t worry, I break each more down into a combination that we put together

and repeat several times throughout the treatment. Our goal is to stimulate and balance our muscles,

release fascia, and stimulate collagen to re-educate, tighten, firm, and tone.

This technique elevates traditional facial massage (what your learned in school and YouTube) to a

completely new therapeutically corrective level by just using your hands.

Your clients will be amazed with the unbelievable benefits and profound results that are organic in

nature physically, chemically, and neurologically!

Easy to learn and Easy on your body

Six (6) easy to learn massage strokes combined into an “easy to remember” flow that will be done

several times during each facial to create new muscle memory. It’s a lot to learn and remember, don’t

worry, for my live classes, I’ve created a private Facebook page where “refresher” videos will be

available to view. For all online classes, you will have access to this training video for 6 months for date

of purchase. I am always available to answer questions.

The theory behind this facelift is that performing isotonic (tension with movement) and isometric

(tension with no movement) exercises on the face will strengthen and tone the underlying structure.

You will learn the appropriate amount of pressure to specific points activates the central nervous system

controls most the functions of the body and mind. When these specific reflexes are stimulated, it sends

a message from the peripheral nerves to the CNS which in turns signals the body to adjust the tension

levels. A relaxed state allows internal organs to a state of optimal functioning, it increases blood supply,

circulatory, respiratory, endocrine, immune, and neuropeptides (chemicals that regulate cellular

communication) to facilitate healing at all levels.

Note: This class is a Pre-Requisite to Cryolift Facial and GuaSha

Q & A

What is The Zen Facelift Facial?

A series of specific very active and easy to learn manual massage techniques designed to brighten,

tighten, firm tone, and restructure the muscles, ligaments, joints, tendons, skin and fascia of the face. It

provides for a vascular and lymphatic flush, warms and loosens sebum for extractions, manual

exfoliation for improved product absorption, stimulates collagen and relaxes chronic wrinkles

formations. This entire process will take about 2 minutes and be done several times during each facial.

The profound effects are both immediate and cumulative.

What is the purpose of The Zen Facelift?

The purpose is to flush stagnant lymph, remove lactic acid and metabolic waste, stimulate collagen, re-

educate muscles thru isotonic and isometric exercises, release wrinkles, improve vascularity, muscle

tone and texture, relax chronic hypertension, Stimulate ATP, and improve tensile strength to the

musculoskeletal facial structure. Our goal is to create homeostasis, balance and tensile strength for

underlying structure.

How does it work?

Specific isotonic (contracture with movement) and Isometric (static tension) exercises done both

actively and passively create muscle memory. We do it several times throughout the facial to re-

educate and develop new muscle patterns and memory.

What If I’m not good at massage?

No worries…I teach you step by step. You will interpret and adapt to whatever rhythm, tempo and

technique feels right for you. It’s like learning a new language…a bit awkward at first but practice makes

perfect. Start with a slow rhythmic pattern with equal pressure in both hands and slowly begin to

develop speed and pressure until it feels natural.

Is this good for anyone?

This is a very active technique and while the list of indications is very long, there are also

contraindications to please familiarize yourself with both. The result of this technique will affect your

client to the cellular level and is very detoxifying, they may feel light headed when they sit up. Please

make sure your client drinks plenty of water pre/post treatment and for the next 3 days to prolong the

benefits.

Section One

Anterior Neck and Lower Face

Lift & Lock

Warm Tissue with effleurage strokes

LIFT & LOCK

Platysma: 3 finger Sweep stroke From the superior clavicle to the base of the jaw 5x in one spot, move ½” 5 x laterally across neck (30 sec- 1min)

Mentalis to Masseter: Ziplock stroke Center of the chin to the earlobe. Over and under jaw bone. Zip firmly to lock in the “lift” 3 x 8’s and O’s

Masseter: Figure 8 strokes. Low across the jaw bone with firm thumb pressure.

Petrissage- using the same 3 finger lift, repeat above the jaw bone. Move up the face from the chin toward the nose.

Pincement – repeat pattern with “Snapping” the skin. (Pincement – like gently snapping your fingers over skin, fascia and muscles. Move medial to lateral

Orbicularis Oris – C strokes around, Big C bottom to the zygomatic bone and hold

Warm Tissue with effleurage strokes

Circle: Using middle finger. Firm circles around

the occipital orbit. Pressure is firm across the top

and across the bottom. Start slow and increase

speed. Repeat for 30 seconds.

Press: Firmly press index finger on the inner

(medial) edge of the eye. Scoop up (toward you)

firmly hold for 10 seconds. This drains excess

fluid off the eyes.

Pinch: scoop using thumb and index finger

squeeze and release as you slide medial to lateral.

You are milking toxins and activating pressure

points and you flush to the lymphatics

Section Two

Middle Face and Ears

Sweep: Cupping all 4 fingers (palms facing your body)

sweep under the zygomatic bone briskly and firmly left

and right to create a controlled scar underneath. 30

seconds

Erase: Firm figure 8’s to warm tissue. Distend tissue

along temple and quickly sweet vertically up and down

(opposite direction of wrinkle) for 10 – 15 seconds.

Section Three

Middle Upper Face and Scalp

Fan – Using the knife edge of both thumbs, criss-

cross (cross fiber) the glabella. Once warm, linear

friction to align the fibers. #

C – Making a firm alternating C shaped from the brow line

to the hairline and temple to temple. 3x. This works

cross- fiber and linear simultaneously to create new

muscle memory.

Fancy

(Fan + Double C)

Warm Tissue with effleurage strokes

• Bring thumbs together at bridge of nose and

do compression strokes from the brow line to the

top of the scalp

• Separate thumbs, pressing with pad of thumb

from the medial edge of the brow to the top of

the scalp

• Repeat above the pupil

• Repeat from lateral edge of brow

Closing stroke: bring the palms of your hands

together (thumbs to the ceiling). Press knife edge

of each hand firmly into the forehead (3rd eye)

and glide laterally. Lighten pressure and glide

down to clavicle for a vascular and lymphatic

flush.
