Evergreen Carriage House Wedding

We had the pleasure of catering Rhiannon and Ben’s Evergreen Carriage House wedding on Saturday, August 2. There was no better way to kickoff our August catered weddings than with this amazing couple. Rhiannon and Ben had their wedding ceremony and cocktail hour in the gorgeous upper gardens of Evergreen Museum & Library. Instead of a typical wedding bar setup for cocktail hour, we created a rustic DIY wedding bar for this fun couple. The base of the rustic wedding bar was made from whiskey barrels, which we topped with an antique shutter to make a fabulous bar table. Rhiannon & Ben had other great wedding ceremony ideas too like having one of their friends sing for the bridal party procession. Rhiannon and Ben’s guests were able to enjoy hors d’oeuvres including some of our tasty southernstyle appetizers like our shrimp and grits, and our chicken and waffles with thyme infused maple syrup.

Following cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, guests were invited to Evergreen’s Carriage House for the wedding reception. This stunning space was perfect for the evening, as guests were able to enjoy our stationstyle wedding reception. On the menu for Rhiannon and Ben’s Evergreen Carriage House Wedding was our southwestern flank steak, carved by one of our chefs, and served with chimichurri sauce; Argentinean roasted chicken; warm potato salad; and quinoa salad. We also had a Risotto Station featuring creamy saffron risotto and herb risotto. Guests were able to choose from an abundance of toppings including grated Romano cheese, asparagus tips, maitake mushrooms, etc. Our chefs made each risotto plate to order, so guests could personalize their dish.



We even added a grilled cheese station to the wedding guests’ dinner options. Yes, Rhiannon and Ben won over their guests hearts easily with this wedding grilled cheese station. Guests were able to enjoy a bacon, cheddar cheese and avocado grilled cheese on whole wheat bread, and our tomato, mozzarella and basil grilled cheese drizzled with balsamic reduction on multigrain bread. Our tomato gazpacho soup accompanied the grilled cheese to make the ultimate pair.



To top the night off, Rhiannon and Ben had a gourmet wedding doughnut bar, with a doughnut shaped wedding cake! The donuts for this evergreen carriage house wedding were made by Diablo Donuts and they tasted as good as they looked! Guests were able to choose from a variety of glazed doughnuts including a bacon maple doughnut that guests absolutely adored. We also had our milk and cookie bar

with warm, freshly baked cookies that guests could pair with milk, chocolate milk and strawberry milk. Check out the pictures below to see all of the unique and creative wedding ideas. Congratulations to Rhiannon & Ben!



National Watermelon Day Recipes

We hope you had the chance yesterday to celebrate National Watermelon Day! We look for any excuse to use watermelon, one of our favorite summer produce, in just about any recipe that you can imagine. This summer catering season, watermelon has made the perfect side dish at the company picnics we have catered, whether it’s sliced up to be the juicy side dish next to our grilled barbecue chicken or the perfect accompaniment to our Root Beer BBQ Pork Slider. At our catered crab feasts, watermelon is the refreshing dessert to cool down from the taste of Old Bay, and serves as a healthy alternative that kids and adults can agree upon. While watermelon is perfect as is, we can’t help but get creative with different watermelon recipes and ideas that would be the perfect way to celebrate National Watermelon Day, or if you’re like us – any day of the year.



Cucumber and Watermelon Salad infused with Maple Thyme Vinaigrette Our award winning cucumber and watermelon salad was featured at Governor O’Malley’s sixth annual Buy Local Cookout and in the 2013 Maryland Department of Agriculture’s Buy Local cookbook. We proudly use locallysourced ingredients in our recipes. This recipe features red and yellow seedless watermelons, cucumbers and fresh thyme.


Mixed Mesculin Salad with crystalized ginger, sweet watermelon, crisp jicima, tossed in a citrus vinaigrette. There is no better way to impress your guests then with a salad course that is just as delicious as the entree. This simple, yet sophisticated salad will appeal to your guests, while they are enjoying the wedding party introductions, and the other heartwarming wedding speeches.

Strawberry and Kiwi Watermelon Daiquiri We love working with our clients to develop a signature cocktail for their catered wedding receptions. This strawberry and kiwi watermelon daiquiri can be paired with your favorite liquor to make this a refreshing cocktail for your guests to enjoy. This pairing would also go great as a smoothie, as a nonalcoholic option that can be enjoyed at any age.
