    Assembly instructions

    Please read these instructions carefully

    Time required for assembly of theprinter is approximately 132 minutes.

    The space required for assembly is3 m (10 feet) in front and

    1 m (3.5 feet) at the sides and rear.

    4 people are required to performcertain tasks.

    1. Printer engine.

    2. Stand and bin.

    3. Spare box. Used to rotate the printer.

    4. Supplies.Used to rotate the printer.

    These assembly instructions explain how to assemble the printer.Notice that the icons used in this document are also located on the printer packaging.The icons help you locate the parts needed at each stage of the assembly.Because spare screws are supplied, some screws will remain unused after assembly ofthe printer.

    Steps 5 to 25.

    5Remove the first tray from the box shown.

    2Carefully cut the straps around the boxes. Makesure that the boxes don't fall when the strapsare cut.

    1Remove the 4 upper plastic handles from thesides of the box (two each side), and thencarefully remove the two side lids vertically.

    Lower the right leg onto the right side of thecross-brace. The right leg will fit only on the rightside of the cross-brace.

    Use two screws on the outside of the left leg toattach the left leg to the cross-brace.

    Use four screws on the inside of the left leg toattach the left leg to the cross-brace.

    Lower the left leg onto the left side of thecross-brace. The left leg will fit only on the leftside of the cross-brace.

    Remove the left leg from the box, and thenremove the two pieces inside the leg.

    Locate the bag of screws and the screwdriverprovided. Notice that the screwdriver is slightlymagnetic. Because spare screws are supplied,some screws will remain unused after assemblyof the printer.

    Lower the left side of the cross-brace onto the boxmarked L and the right side of the cross-braceonto the box marked R.

    Use four screws to attach the foot to the right leg.Tighten each screw half-way, and then graduallytighten each screw completely.

    Position the other foot on the right leg. There arepins to help you correctly position the foot. Donot remove the anti-slip material from the wheel.

    Use four screws to attach the foot to the left leg.Tighten each screw half-way, and then graduallytighten each screw completely.

    Place a foot on the left leg. There are pins tohelp you correctly position the foot. Do notremove the anti-slip material from the wheel.

    29Lift the stand assembly onto the printer engine.The anti-slip material should face the rear of theprinter.

    28Pull open the protective plastic from the base ofthe printer (1), and then remove the two desiccantbags (2).

    27Remove the two packing pieces shown.

    26Remove the eight plastic handles, and thenremove the box shown.

    25Position the left and right leg covers on the frontof the legs (1), and then clip the rear edge (2)into place.

    24Attach the right stand spacer to the top of theright leg. It will click into place.

    37Remove the two foam end-packs, and thenremove the plastic covering from the printerengine.

    36Use the hand holds at the rear of the printerengine to carefully lift the printer to its uprightposition. HP recommends four people tocomplete this task.

    35Remove the pallet before lifting the printer to itsupright position.

    34Rotate the printer until the back of the printerrests on the spare box and the consumables box,and the wheels with the anti-slip material touchthe floor.

    33Rotate the printer onto the spare box and theconsumables box. HP recommends four peopleto complete this task.

    32Place the spare box and the comsumables boxagainst the rear of the printer box. The arrows onthe boxes must point towards the printer box.Make sure that the anti-slip material is attachedto the two rear wheels.

    31Use two screws to attach the left side of the standto the printer. Make sure that the screws are fullytightened.

    30Use one screw to attach the right side of thestand to the printer engine. Make sure that thescrew is fully tightened.

    Assemble the bin

    This task requires 1 person.Time required is 7 minutes.

    Steps 39 to 46.

    38Remove the anti-slip material from the two rearwheels on the stand assembly.

    39Remove the two brackets from the box thatcontains the stand and the bin.Note: The brackets are marked L and R.

    40Use four screws to attach the brackets to thelower part of the printer legs. (Each bracketrequires two screws.)

    41Attach the two plastic brackets to the top part ofthe printer legs. Insert the tab at the bottom of thebracket into the leg, and then 'click' the top ofthe bracket into place.

    43Insert the two bin arms into the bin cross-bar.

    42Remove the bin assembly from the box thatcontains the stand and the bin.

    44Insert the bin cross-bar into the two plasticbrackets.

    47Remove the packing tapes marked 1 to 7 fromthe exterior of the printer.

    46Use the blue handle to open the bin.HP recommends that you leave the bin in theclosed position while completing the printerassembly procedures.

    51Plug the Gigabit Ethernet cable into the GigabitEthernet connection.

    50Remove the Quick Reference Guide holder fromthe supplies box.

    Attach the Quick Reference Guide holder byangling the holder forward at the top (1),positioning the two hooks, and then'clicking' the lower part (2) to the rearof the printer.

    Remove the transparent shipping tray.Insert the maintenance cartridge, pushing it inand down until it 'clicks' into place, and thenclose the maintenance cartridge door.

    Push the ink cartridge drawer back into theprinter until the drawer locks into position.

    Place the ink cartridge in the ink cartridgedrawer. The arrow on the front of the inkcartridge should point upwards.Note that there are marks on the drawer to showthe correct location to place the cartridge.

    Slide one the rolls of paper that came with yourprinter onto the spindle. Make sure that thepaper is oriented as shown.

    Unlock and remove the blue hub from the leftend of the spindle. Keep the spindle horizontal.

    Macintosh users must wait for the

    printhead alignment.

    Please do not try to stop the paper advance; itis necessary to ensure successful printheadalignment.

    The alignment and calibration process will takeabout twenty minutes; while it is taking place,you can proceed to the next step.

    Mac OSSet up and connect your printer

    Box required

    1. Set up and connect your printer(Mac OS X)

    Network connection (Bonjour/Rendezvous).

    1. Make sure that the printer is turned on andconnected to a functioning Ethernet network, and

    that all of the computers in the network are turnedon and connected (including hubs and routers).

    2. On the printer's front panel, select theicon, select Connectivity,Gigabit Ethernet,and then selectView configuration . Note themDNS service name that appears on the frontpanel.

    3. Insert the HP Start-Up Kit CD/DVD into your

    CD/DVD rive, double-click the CD/DVD icon onyour screen, and then look for the Mac OS X HPDesignjet Installer icon.

    4. Double-click the appropriate icon to launch theinstaller, and then follow the onscreen instructions.Note: HP recommends that you use the

    Easy Install option.

    5. When the software has been installed, theHP Printer Setup Assistant starts automatically tohelp you set up a connection to your printer. Followthe onscreen instructions.

    6. In the HP Printer Setup Assistant, click theContinue button.7. In the list of printers that appears, selecta line that contains the mDNS service name ofyour printer in the Printer Name column, andBonjour/Rendezvous in the Connection Typecolumn. Scroll sideways if necessary to see theConnection Type column.

    If your printer appears in the list, click the

    Continue button and proceed to step 8. If your printer does not appear in the list,proceed to step 10.

    8. The following screen displays information aboutthe installation of your printer. If necessary, renameyour printer and then click the Continue button.

    9. Continue following the onscreen instructions.When you reach the Printer Queue Created screen,click the Quit to exit, or click the Create NewQueue if you want to connect another printer tothe network.

    10. Select My printer is not on the list andclick the Continue button.

    11. Select the connection type.

    12. Follow the onscreen instructions that guide youthrough the process of connecting your printer tothe network, and then click the Quit button to closethe assistant window.

    WindowsSet up and connect your printer

    Box required

    1. Set up and connect your printer(Windows)

    Network connectionA network connection is the best way to share yourprinter with your team.

    1. Make sure that the printer and the computer areturned on and connected to the network.

    2. Make a note of the printers IP address, shownon the front panels Ready screen.

    3. Insert the HP Start-Up Kit CD/DVD into yourCD/DVD drive. If the CD/DVD does not startautomatically, run the START.EXE program in theroot folder of the CD/DVD.

    4. Click the Install button.

    5. Follow the onscreen instructions to set up theprinter. The following notes help you understandthe screens and make appropriate choices.

    When asked how the printer is connected,selectWired Networking.

    Select your printer from the list. If you havemore than one HP Designjet Z6100 printerconnected to the network, use the IP address thatyou noted earlier to confirm that you have selectedthe correct printer.

    Verify that the network settings are correct for

    the printer that you selected.
