EXTRA INNINGSThe Yale Softball Alumni Newsletter
The Lineup
Welcome to Extra Innings
Dear YSB’ers,
Our freshmen are settled in, the leaves are
changing color, the likely letters have been
issued, and midterms are upon us!
If you can believe it, our fall season is already
over, and we are transitioning into our small
group work! This fall went by faster than years
past, and our competition was even tougher
right out of the gate. We saw a lot of great
things out of our freshmen, and the
upperclassmen have again raised the bar. This
team is ready for a breakout year!
A few reminders: 1. We will be hosting our
Yale Harvard Tailgate again this year! Please
RSVP if you will be there so we can plan
accordingly. 2. For those of you on the West
coast, please set aside some time for us in
March! The team is pumped to be playing in
Southern California in front of family and
friends, but most importantly, our softball
alums! We had such a great time a few years
ago in Seattle, and hope to have an even better
turnout this time around.

gathering while we are in town, so please reach out to Coach
Goodwin, [email protected], if you would like to
assist.
There are some big announcements in this newsletter, some
of which are program changing.
We can’t wait to share… so read on for the news!

Bulldog Friends,
It has been a very eventful fall thus far!
First, there are some notable changes that will be
happening out at DeWitt in our future! A joint field
hockey and softball alumna has made a leadership
pledge towards a facility out between Johnson Field
and DeWitt Family Field. The two-story facility will
include team rooms, restrooms for fans, a ticket and
concessions center, and an alumni event space on
the second floor. We will share more information on
this as it develops. What an exciting time for our
program!
The next big announcement came just days after the
first one! As you all know, your hard work and
dedication in helping us win the Drive for Elis
contest won our program $10,000. I was tasked with
finding ways to best utilize this money, and had a
few different ideas, but knew that a batting cage of
some sort would help us the most. After a few bids,
lots of patience, and some significant support from
the department, we have a solution. Within the next
few weeks, two retractable batting cages will be
installed in one of the 5th floor gyms of Payne
Whitney! I would like to note specifically how this
will help our program:
1. We can go live any day of the week, vs. twice a
week in the past.
2
2. We will eliminate 6-8am practices at Coxe (we
will still go early a few days a week, but in PWG).
3. If it snows, and shuttles aren’t running, the team
can walk to PWG and still get in a practice.4. When
we are in individual skill sessions, the team can
easily come to PWG for their workouts, thus saving
valuable study time by having this location.
This wouldn’t have happened if we didn’t win the
Drive for Elis! Your help and support has allowed
us to install these cages. Your continued donations
helped have an immediate impact on our program.
I couldn’t be more grateful for your contributions.
Next time you are on campus, let me know and I’ll
walk you over to have a look, or maybe you can
take a few swings! I’ll be taking a lot of pictures
throughout the installation project, and will share
them on social media, as well as in my next
newsletter.
Thank you again
for all that you do.
It makes a
difference to our
team every day!
Sincerely,
Jen Goodwin

Please join us for our Yale-Harvard Tailgate again this year! We had such a fantastic
turnout in 2013, and we anticipate even more of you to be in attendance this year.
Hope to see you there on November 21!
