Congratulations Confirmandi – We are so happy for the following young persons and their families as they were accompanied by their Confirmation sponsor and received the Sacrament of Confirmation through Archbishop Charles Thompson, the ordinary minister of the Sacrament of Confirmation, this past Saturday, October 19 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. We ask our family of faith and parish community to continue to pray for our young members of The Church, as they now have received all three Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Holy Eucharist, and Confirmation. May they share their many gifts with the entire Body of Christ and beyond! ABIDE – Tues., Nov. 19th. Why not pause your busy

schedule to ABIDE! Every third Tuesday of the month individuals of all ages and families from around the New Albany Deanery gather in the Mt. St. Francis chapel for personal prayer, reflective praise & worship music, and Eucharistic Adoration. Also, for those interested, the Sacrament of Penance (Reconciliation/Confession) is available during this time. No registration required. Come for a few minutes or stay the evening! Begins 6:30 pm and ends 8:30 pm.

YOU ARE INVITED! The first concert of the Louisville Master Chorale 2019-2020 season, Choral Fireworks, will be on Sunday, November 10 at 3 PM at Holy Spirit Catholic Church on Lexington Road in Louisville. We will present favorite choruses from Haydn’s “Creation”, Mendelssohn’s “St. Paul”, Mozart’s “Requiem”, Rossini’s “Stabat Mater”, Brahms’ “Requiem”, Handel’s “Messiah”, and Beethoven’s “Mount of Olives”. Dear Parishioners: A short word of thanks to all of the people at St. Peters. It was for me a privilege and honor to offer weekend Mass over the past years. I enjoyed my time at St. Peters and always looked forward to being at the parish on the weekend. My thanks for all of your kindness and gifts of help … and especially the nice appreciation dinner. I also would like to include both Fr. Rob and Fr. Kyle for their kindness to me. I always enjoyed the good food and parish events. DRIVE FOR YOUR SCHOOL – On Saturday, November 2nd the PTO will sponsor “Drive for Your School.” Heritage Ford will

bring several new vehicles to our school parking lot. You may sign up to “test drive” one of these new vehicles. Ford Motor Company will donate $20 to our school for each test drive. REVERSE RAFFLE – will be held on November 9, 2019 - 100% POLY returns for an encore performance at our 3rd annual Reverse Raffle. Dinner and Raffle tickets are on sale NOW! This year we will have $10, $20 and $50 raffles. ONLY 150 tickets for each raffle. Dinner will be catered by Carrie’s Catering. Dinner tickets are $30 per person. Reservations are required.

Congratulations to 6th graders Dylan Adams, Hays Ferriell and Katie Eve – they represented St. Joseph in the Regional Science Fair at Providence High School on Friday, October 25.

Field Trip – the Kindergarten through 4th grade classes will attend the production of James and the Giant Peach at Providence High School on Monday, October 28.

Family Movie Night – the PTO will sponsor a Movie Night for all families on Sunday, November 3rd at 4:00 p.m. Movie, hotdog, popcorn and treats included.

There is no charge for this event. All are welcome. Bring the whole family and join the fun.

PARISH LIFE

November is the month dedicated to the

Holy Souls in Purgatory. The month opens

with the Feast of All Saints, where we

celebrated the Church Triumphant, when all

the elect (i.e. in Heaven) bestow their graces

upon us.

From this initial Feast – a glorious window into heaven –

we, the Church Militant (i.e. on earth) gather much needed

strength and fortitude. For in this month, we increase our

prayers and sacrifices for the Church Suffering (i.e. in

purgatory) – those who will join their heavenly family elect,

but who still need prayer.

Thus, throughout the month, we offer our prayers

specifically to these suffering souls, many of whom have

nobody to pray for them at all.

And our prayers increase immediately, as the Liturgy brings

us, on the following day, to the Feast of All Souls –

commemorating all the Faithful Departed.

Starting with these two feasts and our intensified prayers for

the holy souls throughout November, we find perhaps the

greatest visible expression of the connection between the

Church Triumphant, the Church Suffering and the Church

Militant.

Please join the Purgatory Society in praying for the Souls in

Purgatory this month of November. Pray for the deceased

members of your family, for friends, for deceased Priests

and Nuns you have known in your life. December - October

we meet on the second Monday of each month @ 7 p.m. in

the church to pray. During the month of November, we meet

weekly. Our schedule for this November is as follows:

Tuesday November 5, @ 6 p.m.

Monday November 11 @ 7 p.m. during adoration (regular

monthly meeting)

NOVEMBER 3, 2019

Dear Parishioners,

We hear from the Book of Sirach that the

Lord “hears the cry of the oppressed,” and

“the prayer of the lowly pierces the clouds.”

In the Gospel according to Luke, we hear

of the prayer of the humble tax collector

(“O God, be merciful to me a sinner”) and

how Jesus teaches that “the one who

humbles himself will be exalted.”

True humility allows us to have faith not

in our own merits but in God’s mercy.

There is no greater way of humbly trusting

in God’s mercy than by confessing our sins

in the Sacrament of Penance and

Reconciliation. The Catechism of the

Catholic Church says, “Those who

approach the sacrament of Penance

obtain pardon from God’s mercy for the

offense committed against him, and are,

at the same time, reconciled with the

Church which they have wounded by their

sins and which by charity, by example,

and by prayer labors for their conversion”

(1422).

Beginning this week, I plan to regularly

provide a stable “hour” for confessions

each day, Tuesday through Sunday, as

follows:

Thursday 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM

Friday 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM
