    YOUTH RAP FORUM

Purpose:To develop communication channels between young people and Jaycees. Theproject is designed to inform your community's youth that Jaycees areinterested in their views/ideas on various subjects as well as to giveJaycees the opportunity to express their views to a younger generation.

Value of Project:The Youth Rap Forum provides a face-to-face exchange between Jaycees andyoung people. It is of value for young people to know that an organizationstill identified in the minds of many as a conservative businessman'sgroup, will take time to have them as guests as well as to discuss topicsof mutual or conflicting interests.

Project Tips:1. The project should be planned over a two month period. Thiswill allow sufficient time for the facilities to be arranged,Jaycee participants, moderators and identification of youngpeople.2. If your chapter has a working relationship with young people, they should be involved in the planning, development andimplementation of the project. (See the definition of the

    7. Topics to be discussed as well as the amount of time persubject should remain flexible, but controlled by thetable moderator to gain maximum participation andexpression of views.

    8. Table consensus should be recorded on each subjectdiscussed and shared with the total group, possiblyduring the social period.

Discussion Topics:Since the purpose of this project is to develop channels of communications,it becomes vital that the subjects are presented in such a way as toencourage friendly and meaningful discussions. Subjects tending to be"black - white, for or against" issues should be avoided to minimize thechance of confrontation that would result in a breakdown of communications, the basic purpose of this project.Several topics with a time allocation of 20-30 minutes is sufficient todevelop good dialogue. Often times the group will want to work aparticular subject to a conclusion, however, this is not the purpose ofthe project. Off-shoot activities and separate in-depth discussions onspecific subjects would be a welcome addition to Jaycee chapterprogramming.

Sample Discussion Topics:1. Our society has expressed a need for skilled craftsmen, but a
