Alma LatinaLittle Shop of Horrors

By Howard Ashman and Alan Menken

When candy maker Willie Whoops delivers a special order to Mrs. Claus, a quest begins for our North Pole pals: who can make the best mug of hot chocolate? Everyone has their own recipe, but who will win the blue ribbon? Join Drifty the Snowman, Cowboy Jim, Pepita the Elf and the whole North Pole gang for an all new episode of this great holiday tradition!

“Alma Latina” is a family-oriented dance-theater production celebrating the history that influenced the rhythm, music and dance of Latin America. Through salsa, mambo, tango, flamenco and reggae, the unique, powerful and passionate artists of the Latin Ballet of Virginia will weave tradition, culture and politics into a tapestry of understanding for the soul (Alma), the people and the history of Latin America, the Caribbean and Spain. This educational production is a unique learning experience and great extra credit opportunity for Spanish, English as a Second Language, International Studies, Literature, and Performing Arts classes.

This world-premiere drama by playwright Irene Ziegler is based upon the book by Nancy Wright Beasley, who is also the author of the highly-acclaimed Izzy’s Fire: Finding Humanity in the Holocaust. Set in and around the Kovno Ghetto in Lithuania during World War II, this powerful story chronicles the struggle of a Jewish family to survive the Holocaust and the heroism of Laibale Gillman, a teenaged boy, known as the little lion, who never stopped fighting for freedom.

The Little LionBy Irene Ziegler

You haven’t seen Little Shop... until you’ve seen THE MILL do Little Shop…!! Our original 1986 production took the town by storm and became the longest-running show in our theatre’s history: eight months of thrills and chills and over-the-top fun! The voracious Audrey II will once again consume the Mill stage (and, indeed, the entire theater) with music and mayhem. It’s a not-to-be-missed event of monstrous proportions!

Johnny AppleseedBy Tom Width and

Paul Deiss

There are many stories told about the famous man who planted thousands of apple trees across the wilderness of Ohio, Indiana, and beyond. Some are legend, some are true, and some are a fanciful mixture of both – but Johnny Appleseed was most certainly a real man – a man who loved children, loved the outdoors, loved animals, and believed that apples could help to feed everyone and to keep them healthy. Join us for the Mill’s own musical version of Johnny’s story.
