The Power of Having Goals

4

5© Six Minutes to Success | Proctor Gallagher Institute

“The major reason for setting a goal is for what it makesof you to accomplish it. What it makes of you will alwaysbe the far greater value than what you get.” Jim rohn

Lesson OnePower Of Having Goals

the proper goal will provide you with the necessary incentive to grow in awareness.

you are presently a perfect expression of an infinite power. For you, all things are

possible. as you become more consciously aware of your oneness with the infinite

power within you and its laws of expression, that awareness will be reflected in your

results. every aspect of your life is a mirror reflection of your own level of awareness.

the awareness you are seeking requires replacing old conditioning, which is genetic

and environmental. Consider this a life-long process. in other words, people will

change their way of thinking to enable them to achieve their goal. when they get it,

naturally, the person will then have a new, maybe bigger, goal than before. therefore,

they are now back at “Point a” and will need to change their thinking again in order to

achieve their next goal, or “Point b.”

Conditioning is a multitude of ideas, which are fixed in your sub-conscious mind. Fixed

ideas are more commonly referred to as habits. you have a host of ideas fixed in your

subconscious mind, which require replacing. these ideas, thoughts, are the cause

of the unwanted results you are presently getting. it is the limited, or scarcity, type

of thoughts that are holding you back and stifling your growth. they are negative

and can be destructive. negative habits, if broken and not consciously replaced with

positive habits, will be replaced almost immediately by other negative habits. nature

abhors a vacuum. when a “space” is created it will be filled automatically or by design,

dependant upon the person’s conscious decision.

to be successful in replacing negative habits with positive ones, you must have a good

reason, and that good reason is a goal. it will give you direction in life. in other words,

with a goal you can say, “this is where i am headed.” the most gratifying part of

having a goal is in the person you must become in order to achieve that goal.

Lesson TwoGratitude Attunes You To Success

in the present tense, write a statement of gratitude for everything that you feel

blessed to have in your life now. your statement below will become a tool for you to

use to keep you on track towards achieving your goals. when you feel like you are

getting off track or need some motivation, come back to this statement and read it

over and over until you feel a shift.

“Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars.”

Lesson ThreeGuidelines To Follow

1. Write it down and carry it with you!

when it comes to goal setting, commit to it in writing. state your goal in the present

tense as if it is now happening. it is recommended to start your goal statement with:

i am so happy and grateful now that… Put your written statement in your purse or

pocket and read it daily. be sure to include the date of accomplishment!

2. Let your imagination fly!

take the lid off your marvelous mind and dream big. successful people do not limit

themselves. all the good you desire is waiting for you. seek it, dream it and believe it.

your imagination is one of your most marvelous mental faculties. remember, the

dreamers are the builders. Don’t put limits on the goals you set. it is not about what

you think you can do, but rather, what do you desire. stephen r. Covey said, “live out

of your imagination, not your history.”

3. Choose wants not needs.

Choose a goal that is something you want, not something you need. there is no

inspiration in needs; however, there definitely is inspiration in wants.

the goal does not have to be logical, in fact, you will probably be much more inspired

if it is totally illogical. a worthy goal will make you feel uncomfortable, because it will

be foreign to you—uncharted territory. if you already know how you are going to get

your goal then chances are it is not a good goal—you probably have already achieved

it before in some shape or form. Chances are if the goal excites you and frights you

at the same time, you are on the right path. the goal is right for you! as John maxwell

says, “a dream should never be evaluated according to its size. that’s not what

determines its worth. a dream doesn’t have to be big. it just has to be bigger than

you are.”

“Only as high as I reach can I grow, only as far as I seek can I go, only as deep as I look can I see,

only as much as I dream can I be.”KAren rAvn

Lesson FourDesign Your Life Now

only you can decide what your goal(s) is going to be. although another person—your

spouse, parent, your kids, an employer or associate—may offer suggestions, ultimately,

it is about the life you want to live, not the life that others think you should live.

so you can consider the suggestions, but you make the final decision. you will not

commit yourself to someone else’s goal or one you set to please someone else. know

thyself and honor what it is you desire by setting goals that are in alignment with you.

will direct us along the path to its fulfillment.”eArl niGhtinGAle

Lesson FiveGetting Into Alignment

the next component of The Six-Minute Goal System program is to develop a “winning”

attitude. attitude is the composite of your thoughts, feelings and actions. a “winning”

attitude is aligning your thoughts, feelings and actions with your goal(s). in other

words, who would you have to become to attain your goal(s)? look at your goal from

the perspective of having already achieved it. what would that person’s (that person

would be you having achieved your goal) thoughts be like, how would they feel, how

would they act?

the part of your personality that you can see is your body, which is the part that

moves into action. the body is the instrument of your mind, and represents one of the

ingredients of your attitude. the other two parts of your personality, your thoughts

and feelings, are parts of you that cannot be seen. the conscious mind deals with

thought and the subconscious mind with feelings. they are the other two ingredients

that make up your attitude.

an important part of goal achieving is for you to choose your thoughts carefully and

be consciously aware of your actions. therefore, choose thoughts that you can get

emotionally involved with that will then put you into action towards goal-oriented

activities.

remember, your attitude is the composite of your thoughts, feelings and actions

where actions are expressed through your body. the only way to improve the results

you are getting in your life through goal achievement is to take full responsibility for

your attitude. to take responsibility, use the conscious part of your mind to accept

thoughts that are in harmony with your goal and reject the thoughts that are not.

then, get emotionally involved with the ideas that you accept—your goals—which is

done with the subconscious part of your mind. your feelings will put your body into

action accordingly, which creates your results. (Refer to the Stick Person Diagrams.)

UnderstandUniversal Laws

lesson six

21© Six Minutes to Success | Proctor Gallagher Institute

Lesson SixUnderstand Universal Laws

a frequently asked question is this: how much time will it take to achieve my goal?

who’s to say? Take a guess!

the process is no less than this—you are focusing the energies to bring a non-physical

essence, or concept, into physical form. this process can be described by breaking it

down into in a number of steps:

1. Conscious/Intellectual — you imagine your goal. you thereby plant a non-physical

seed in your conscious mind. that is the first step, my fellow gardener!

2. Subconscious/Universal Intelligence — that conscious seed must now be rooted in

the fertile grounds of your sub-conscious mind, where that seed now has access to

the rich and infinite nutrients of “universal intelligence.” Do this by picturing your

goal in your mind, let yourself vividly imagine how life will be when your goal is

achieved, see yourself in relation to that goal-fulfilled, and feel the feelings that

accompany that new state.

3. emotion — as you get fired up about the idea, become emotionally involved with it,

and you believe in it, that non-physical element begins to grow into actual physical

form. note here, it is crucial that you not only understand this creative process

intellectually, but believe in it, have an emotional connection with it. it has been

consistently shown that the more intense your belief is, your emotional involvement,

the faster the physical aspects will materialize.

so, how much time will it take to achieve the goal? interestingly, but not uncommon, a

person tends to give him or herself too muCh time for the achievement of a goal.

there is a law—Parkinson’s law—that states, “Work expands to fill the time allotted for

it.” when the goal is allowed too much time, its fulfillment loses momentum, can

become unfocused and stray off-course.

this brings us to the law of gender, which states that those seeds that we discussed

earlier have a natural gestation or incubation period before they manifest in form.

this is obvious, when we observe physical seeds. we plant the seeds in fertile soil,

22© Six Minutes to Success | Proctor Gallagher Institute

“There are three constants in life...change, choice and principles.”

steven r. covey

give them water and nutrients to grow, give them a weed-free surround, and wait. we

have the well-founded expectation that, at the end of the natural gestation period in

question, the small seed will blossom forth into a physical form that is precisely what

the outcome of that seed’s fruition should be. Plant an apple and you will reap an

apple tree, not a banana bush. Perfect design, every time!

and so it is with our marvelous mental capacities! if we plant the seed of a clear goal,

nurture that goal in a positive atmosphere of cheerful enthusiasm and an unfettered

expectation of success, weeding out negative thoughts and external influences, we will

find that the goal will—in fact, it must by law—materialize into its perfect

manifestation.

Lesson SevenSupport And Your “Dream Team”

keep your mind focused on only that which will support you in achieving your

goals. to re-emphasize a metaphor from the last lesson, keep the garden of your

mind clear of the weeds of negative thoughts and discouraging external influences

that could distract you and pull your attention off your goal. make sure your read

inspirational books, see movies that portray the roads to victory and success, and

listen to audios that strengthen your conviction toward your goal. as a member of

sixminutes2success, you are already receiving the support needed to keep focused on

your goal while energizing your belief of attainment. Congratulations!

it is now time to specifically gather those like-minded people around you who will hold

your vision with you, challenge you, and help inspire you to fulfill your dreams. include

everyone you know who will provide this support – family, friends, business associates,

and new acquaintances. the larger the number of those you can involve, the greater

the accountability you will feel. tell them your goals and dreams; you may be

surprised to find out how many people will generously support you in your vision!

Don’t be discouraged if you find unsupportive people. they are a very good reason

to gather around you that core of people who can support you in this, the most

important undertaking of your life!

Form your “Dream team” today!

Write down the person or people that you want on your “Dream Team” for your
