The Cosmic Collection: VIRGOYour Virgo Lifestyle & Well-being Profi le

Finding Your Center: Your Well-being According To Your Sun SignWell Being is far more than just physical health; it involves feeling centered and strong on emotional and spiritual levels as well. You may have noticed that feeling physically unhealthy or even just low-energy can throw off the balance of your entire system, and the same is true of emotional depression and spiritual disconnectedness. Thus, achieving a state of well-being depends

on feeling balanced in all areas of our lives. Fortunately, the Zodiac holds keys to creating that harmoniously centered sense of stability. Based on your Sun sign’s Element along with certain other specifi cs of your sign, you can learn vital ways of promoting a greater and more integrated sense of thriving in body, mind and soul.

The Earth SignsNaturally patient, grounded and possessing strong endurance, Earth signs often push through injuries or illnesses, even when they shouldn’t. It’s important for Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn to live within some type of routine when it comes to getting regular exercise, food, sleep and downtime. Capricorns are especially likely to ignore bodily cues like hunger and fatigue, or emotional ones like loneliness, in favor of maintaining a jam-packed schedule; but all three Earth signs might push themselves too hard, simply because they can. Flexibility, balance and stretching are especially important for these

signs, so include them in your workouts to help avoid stiff joints and aching muscles.

Holistic health cannot be achieved without paying due attention to emotional wellbeing. Many Earth signs tend toward obstinacy and resistance to change, so make slow, deep, conscious breathing a daily practice to encourage the release of stubbornness and tension. Deep breathing also helps open your mind to new structures, experiences and perspectives. Practicing yoga or stretching daily can also help keep your body and outlook as fl exible as possible.

DietAnother important aspect of wellbeing is diet. Of the three Earth signs, Taurus is most susceptible to lethargy and overeating, but Virgo and Capricorn can experience these as well. Earth signs tend to have the slowest metabolisms of the Zodiac, so strive to stick to the rule of moderation. Smaller

portions help keep your weight under control, along with your blood sugar and other physical factors. For optimal health, include plenty of vegetables, leafy greens, grains, healthful fats such as avocados and olive oil, and broth-based soups in your diet.

Associated Body PartsEach Zodiac sign is associated with certain body parts, and should be aware of the potential for related illness. Taurus is associated with the throat and neck; protect these by drinking warm tea and wearing scarves when the weather is cool. Tea with lemon juice and honey can provide eff ective treatment for laryngitis or a sore throat. Tension headaches often originate in the neck; if you’re prone to these, try deep breathing or apply an ice pack to the base of the neck at the fi rst sign of pain. Since Virgo is associated with the nervous and digestive systems, probiotics are especially important for this sign’s digestion. Be

sure to eat yogurt regularly, or fermented foods such as kombucha or miso soup, and steer clear of foods that upset the system, such as greasy or heavy items. Meditation, deep breathing and regular exercise can all help soothe anxiety, as can building a support network of close friends and confi dants. Finally, Capricorn is associated with the knees, teeth, joints and bones, so get plenty of calcium through sesame seeds, dairy products and dark, leafy greens. Also be sure to visit your dentist regularly, and keep your bones strong through weight-bearing exercises like jogging or walking.

Lasting HappinessIt’s a tough job, being such a detail-oriented, exacting sign as Virgo; it’s no wonder, then, that this sign can tend toward anxiety along with self-critical and compulsive behavior, all of which stand as serious roadblocks to lasting happiness. The fact that you take your time in building deep, strong connections with others works in your favor; once you commit to a particular relationship, a stable foundation of trust has already been established. But fulfi lling

personal relationships may not be enough to counteract that deep-rooted sense of worry that preoccupies so many Virgos’ minds. Loosening the reins of control, developing a sense of self-acceptance and pride in yourself exactly as you are — these are the changes that may take you years to achieve. But knowing Virgo’s constant striving for improvement, you’ll make it happen, and once you do, you’ll know the contentment of deep, enduring happiness.

Major Character ChallengesHave you ever encountered a stubborn Taurus or a brassy Leo? How about a sneaky Scorpio or a playboy Sagittarius? Do any of these undesirable characteristics ring a bell? Each sign has a positive side as well as a negative one. The not so nice characteristics are the ones we can grow and learn from, particularly when it’s someone else who’s rubbing us the wrong way. Once we gain an understanding of where someon e is coming from it’s easier to have empathy and understanding. For now, let’s take a fun poke at your sign and their not so charming traits!

This sign is the pettiest and most critical of the zodiac. They’re the epitome of a nag and drive others nuts with their constant nit-picking and fault fi nding. Virgo will notice and pay attention to things others fi nd mundane and boring.

Virgo is the sign of service aka masochist. Who else likes to be bossed around and run around after others while constantly complaining – it makes no sense to the rest of us. Actually, complaining is their favorite pastime and they only feel loved when they’re picking up after those they love. They’re quite petty and seek perfection where none exists. Heaven help their long suff ering partner – how do they put up with this sign? It’s probably because Virgo cleans and picks up after them.

This is the sign of the virgin and of course we all know that’s because of their prudish ways. They come across like a holy saint but once the lights are off they are the devil in disguise. Many people don’t realize the shadow of this sign can be cheap, easy and slovenly. Looking at the fl ip

side makes their complaining easier to live with.

Virgo is a constant worry wart which creates a nervous disposition. To counter-balance this they pop pills which they call ‘vitamins’ and the doctor’s waiting room is a home-away-from-home for this sign. Plain and simple, Virgo is a hypochondriac. In the guise of taking their grandmother, old neighbor or sick pet to the doctor they’ll add on a few more ailments to get the medication they

need for their self-diagnosed problems.

Their stinginess is inexhaustible. They always seem to be counting their pennies and writing up budgets and to-do lists. They’re extremely fussy and actually kind of boring because they enjoy cleaning house, mopping the fl oors and ironing clothes etc…No task is too small or mundane to satisfy this fuss-budget sign.

Your Stress Profi lePsychologists and personal trainers off er many suggestions to help people cope with stress. Nevertheless, these techniques are not useful for everyone. It is possible to use the techniques, but you must know which ones are best suited for your sign. Astrology can help you identify diff erent aspects of your personality, while providing resources to heal negative traits. Whether it is to pay karmic debt or learn a lesson in this life, you need solid methods to alleviate stress and anxiety. This information will allow you to cut your stress in half. By using these methods in combination with anything you have, you can begin to heal the mind, body, and soul.

As a Virgo, you can cut your stress in half by maintaining the condition of the digestive and nervous system. It is easy for Virgo to consume foods that may upset their system. These foods are usually heavy in fats or extremely greasy. Since cerebral Mercury rules Virgo, you will benefi t from communicating with friends and family members. Virgos need a strong support system to control stress-related symptoms. If you have anxiety, meditation and deep breathing techniques can ease the symptoms. Routine exercise can help you avoid stiff muscles and joints, which is an indication of stress.

Your Parenting Profi leAnyone who has ever had a child knows parenting is one of the most rewarding jobs there is — but also one of the toughest. The way we raise our children is inevitably a combination of strategies learned from our own families of origin along with those techniques we pick up from books, magazines and websites devoted to parenting advice. Our natural instincts go into it along with the social, cultural and religious traditions we are a part of, whether by birth or by choice. What is your approach to raising a child? Is your style your own, or are you carrying on patterns and rituals you learned from your own parents? Chances are, you’re enacting a combination of both — and everything you do regarding your child is fi ltered through your Sun sign, which has everything to do with how you comfort, nurture, teach and discipline the young person you’re in charge of.

Virgo tends to keep a clean and well-organized home, which is an important part of providing a stable foundation for your child. You also work best within a routine, and children also thrive on routine, especially when they’re young. Since your sign tends to focus on health issues, you’re careful to give your child healthful snacks and meals and to make sure they receive all their medical shots and checkups on time. You’re an excellent role model when it comes to clearing away mess, arriving at school, play dates and doctor’s appointments on time, and generally leading an orderly life. Most of all, you consider your role as a parent to be one of service, which you take on selfl essly and wholeheartedly. Your parenting challenge is to remember to lighten up sometimes. Raising a child is certainly serious business, but it can also be a lot of fun, if you make an eff ort not to be too anxious or high-strung

about things like cleanliness, safety or following the rules. Expect that bringing up a young person naturally comes with a certain level of mess and

chaos. Embracing the disorder — and resisting your urge to nitpick and criticize — will make things much easier on everyone in the family.

Your Pet Profi le: What Pet Should You Adopt?According to popular lore, dogs are man’s best friend — but while many people adore the devotion and companionship of a puppy, not everyone wants to deal with muddy paws, slobbery licks or begging at the dinner table. The same goes for cats: Some fi nd them beautiful and intriguing, while others see them as little more than snooty sneeze-factories. So which furry, feathered or scaly animal could be your best friend? Your Zodiac sign is a great place to fi nd ideas. Our signs impart unique qualities and characteristics that help shape not only our personalities, but also our preferences. Your Sun sign can reveal the type of animal that might make your very best companion — your own, personal best friend.

Yours is the sign of service, so when adopting a pet, try an animal rescue facility, where you can make a diff erence by bringing home a sweet, furry, and very grateful soul. You don’t mind pets that require a bit of assistance or maintenance, so you work well with dog breeds such as Boxers or German Shepherds that tend to have health issues. However, a nervous or temperamental pet will feed into your tendency toward anxiety. Avoid high-strung breeds such as Chihuahuas or Pomeranians, and go instead for a grounded, easygoing animal that will thrive under your devoted ministrations. Also, be prepared for it to take some time to bond with your new friend. You may warm up slowly, but once you fall in love, you’re a devoted pet companion for life.

Your Friendship Profi le: Who To Keep Close At HeartAstrology tells us so much about ourselves; the planets in their orbits refl ect our basic life forces. They infl uence our characteristics by their relationship to each other, as measured from the moment of our birth. These relationships between the planets, their positions in relation to the place of our birth tell us of their expression in the spheres of life depicted in the astrological houses.

Many mistakenly think that is all there is to Astrology, simply watching constellations process through the Zodiac, but there is much, much more. The Zodiac is a 360 degree circle divided into 12 sections, each associated with certain characteristics based on qualities of the elements Fire, Air, Water and Earth.

Each of these four elements has three states named Cardinal, Fixed and Mutable. Those of us with an emphasis on Cardinal signs tend to be leaders or initiators, they’re goal oriented, never taking their eyes off of the prize. Those of us with an emphasis on fi xed signs tend to

be “status quo” people. They’re effi cient, good organizers, tending to react to situations and not to initiate them. Those with mutable emphasis love change; they seek the new and have no love for the “status quo.”

So with 12 Zodiac signs each belonging to an element, each in one of the three states gives us an infi nite number of personalities and characteristics. Each of us, holding specifi c aspects of each, so there is no pure Taurus or Sagittarius. With the factors of heredity and infl uences of the states and elements two people born into Aries can seem as diff erent as night and day. The date, time and places of their births, separating them, giving them, diff erent relationships to the diff erent planets.

So which signs should you be friends with?

Virgo is a Mutable Water sign, ruled by Mercury. This is a cool Earth sign, down to Earth, unusually

gentle and kind. They are often happy alone and sometimes uncomfortable in dating situations. Their sincere nature and gentleness makes game playing unlikely, Virgos seeks commitment and

are selfl ess in their relationships. Like the other Earth signs, Taurus and Capricorn, Virgo is built for commitment, if their partners can wait for them.

Your Beauty Profi leWe all want to look our best, but enhancing your natural beauty is about more than just your coloring, hair type or style preferences. If you want to jazz up your looks in a unique and natural way, try incorporating the traits of your astrological sign. Each of the twelve Sun signs is associated with certain colors and body parts along with its own element and quality. If you pay special attention to these elements when choosing your makeup and hairstyle and putting your look together, you can play up your sign’s best strengths. Read on to fi nd out more about the specifi c colors, hair and makeup tips, and health information you need to know to look your very best.

As a Mutable Earth sign, Virgo looks best in muted earth tones that enhance your naturally

grounded energy. Eye makeup in violet and silver hues helps create a refi ned and understated look, and is also easy to transition from day to night or work to play. Your sign’s body parts include the stomach, intestines and spleen, and Virgo is naturally concerned with health; thus, your physical beauty comes largely from the inside out. Nourish your entire system with clean, whole and wholesome foods, especially plant-based ones, and pay special attention to your digestion. If you’re experiencing digestive or gastric issues, take it as a sign that your system needs cleansing. On that note, be sure to avoid excessive amounts of coff ee, alcohol, sugar and other things that might upset your system.

Your Vacation Profi leIf you’ve ever returned from a vacation feeling more exhausted than when you left, you know the importance of choosing the right destination. For instance, the rush of energy in a big city might be invigorating for one person, but overwhelming for another. Plan a custom vacation that will balance and recharge you by looking to the elemental association of your sun sign.

Virgo’s mutable earth energy shakes things up with forces of analysis and purifi cation. Although the Maiden can sometimes become a perfectionist, she also enjoys letting her hair down. Let the planning be part of the fun (you know you love it, Virgo!) and check out a structured off ering, such as a wine tasting expedition or a cooking class, that will appeal to your practical nature.

Your Diet & Fitness Profi leWhether you’re setting a resolution for the new year or simply realizing that it’s time to take charge of your health, there is no time like the present to launch a new and improved diet and fi tness regimen. But mere willpower isn’t enough. Some say a failure to plan is tantamount to planning to fail — but you won’t make that mistake. Set yourself up for success by gathering the information you need before you embark on your journey toward wellness. What’s one great place to begin? With the Zodiac — specifi cally, your own Sun sign. Read on to gain insight into your astrological strengths to harness, pitfalls for your sign to avoid, and the very best ways to get your health on track.

If you’re like most Virgos, you’re already health-conscious, not to mention organized. Your best approach toward wellness will put those

personality traits to good use. For example, planning your weekly meals will enable you to be effi cient in your grocery shopping and cooking. As soon as you bring home healthy snack items like grapes, carrots and celery sticks, separate them into individual servings that you can bring with you to the offi ce, the gym and anyplace else you go. Joining a class at the gym can be a great way not only to increase your fi tness, but also to meet like-minded people who are focused on improving their own health; being a member of a community can be a powerful motivator in sticking to your plan and pursuing your goals. Most of all, whichever physical activity you enjoy most, maintain a regular schedule of practicing it at least three times per week. Sticking to a regular, predictable routine with meals will also help you create good habits that last a lifetime.

Your Birthstone Profi le & Healing AbilityPeople have valued gemstones for their healing properties for centuries. Crystals, especially those of the quartz variety, are in widespread use today for treating everything from physical to emotional to spiritual issues. But precious and semiprecious stones also have benefi cial qualities. When used with care and respect, these mineral beauties can enhance our health, our relationships and our wellbeing.

Most people are familiar with the gemstone associated with their birth month, but certain stones are also associated with the Signs of the Zodiac. Read about your Zodiac Sign and its

corresponding gemstone, and read on to learn about the healing properties of your personal astrological gemstone healer.

Carnelian: Virgos tend to be perfectionists, which can lead to chronic physical ailments such as tension, back pain, heartburn or asthma. This Sign’s gemstone, carnelian, can relieve these symptoms, along with infections, colds and reproductive issues. Carnelian is also helpful in protecting against fear and anger — one’s own or someone else’s — and strengthening self-esteem. Exacting, self-critical Virgo can sometimes use a boost in the ego department,

along with the boost in happiness and comfort this stone can provide.

Your Spring Cleaning Profi leIt’s spring! The air is warmer, tiny buds are beginning to unfurl on bare tree branches, green shoots are poking up through the cold earth, and the world is fi lled with a fresh sense of renewal. It’s no wonder that, as the landscape changes around us, becoming more vibrant, lush and beautiful after the monochromatic tones of winter, we’re fi lled with a corresponding urge to update our living spaces. Spring cleaning is universal: It’s all about clearing the clutter from our homes and doing a top-to-bottom deep-clean, scouring all the nooks and crannies we’ve overlooked all winter long. And there is a defi nite link between our physical surroundings and our inner emotions; setting our homes to rights makes us feel more focused, confi dent and optimistic. But the actual process of cleaning is far more individual, based on the particulars of your Sun sign. What’s your cleaning style? How can you maximize your natural strengths from the Zodiac and avoid the pitfalls common to your sign?

Cleaning and organization are Virgo’s natural

forte, as they are intrinsic to who you are and how your mind works. But spring cleaning can become problematic if you allow yourself to get overly detailed or obsessive about it. The key for you is to learn to be satisfi ed with “good enough,” and to ask for help. Your natural tendency is to take all the work onto your own shoulders, but it’s far more practical to let your housemates or family members pitch in. Remember, though, that making it a team eff ort means biting your tongue when you feel the urge to criticize others’ methods. Yes, your way is probably the most practical, but you have your own tasks to attend to. To avoid the trap of micromanaging everyone around you, make a detailed list of specifi c tasks to be accomplished, and then delegate them out to everyone involved. Then set a strict rule for yourself: Commit to tackling your own projects while letting others complete theirs in peace. Once everyone has done their share of the work, you can all relax together and enjoy the fresh, clean space you’ve created.

Your Psychic Ability Profi leEveryone has some degree of innate psychic ability, but diff erent signs approach the psychic world with diff erent attitudes and talents. How psychic is your sign?

Your Psychic Talent: Astrology – where you can seamlessly synthesize hundreds of details into a helpful, coherent whole.

You have the technical ability to make a great psychic, but you’re held back by a lack of confi dence and a dislike of the vagueness of it all. Methodical and disciplined, you would shine in a psychic art which takes many years to master thoroughly.

About the Author KELLI FOXKelli was fi rst drawn to astrology during her childhood in Sydney, Australia. As early as eight years of age, she began recording birth dates and Sun Signs for anyone willing to share. Kelli’s formal astrological studies began at the College of Humanistic Astrology. This led to her professional accreditation with multiple organizations including: National Council for Geocosmic Research (CA NCGR IV), Professional Member of the American Federation of Astrologers (PMAFA), International Society for Astrological Research (ISAR C.A.P.), and the Federation of Australian Astrologers (FAA).

Kelli is also the fi rst member of the Founders’ Circle of Kepler College, and is an emeritus member of its board of trustees. Kepler College is the fi rst college in the western hemisphere authorized to issue BA, AA and MA degrees in Astrological Studies.

In 2004, with Neptune on her descendant and transiting Pluto conjunct her natal Moon, she had a near death medical experience that left her in a coma and on life support for two weeks. Kelli was fortunate to survive and return from the other side. With new found life, her passion to share the knowledge of astrology with people everywhere was reignited.

Kelli views astrology as a universal language through which the unique elements that make each of us who we are can be discussed, understood and developed. She sees her role as bringing this ancient science to our modern-day life through current technologies — from web sites to mobile phones and video screens.
