Prayer to St. Nicholas
Feast Day December 6th
God, our Father,
We pray that through the intercession of St. Nicholas you
will protect our children.
Keep them safe from harm and help them grow and
become worthy in your sight.
Give them strength to keep their faith in you; and to keep alive their joy in
your creation. Through Jesus Christ, Our Lord. Amen. St. Nicholas Day is celebrated on Dec. 6th. Tradition holds that children who leave
their shoes out on the hearth or by the door before they go to bed on Dec. 5th will
wake to find them filled with candy or small treats which means that St. Nicholas
has paid them a visit. Including St. Nicholas in your family Advent traditions is a
good way to learn more about this great saint who became known as “Nicholas the
Wonderworker.”

~Stewardship~ “Take heed, watch and pray; for you do not know when
the time will come.” - Mark 13:33
We all take things for granted. In particular, we take
time for granted. Our lives are so busy, many of us are
planning our time - days, weeks, months, even years in
advance. Remember, our time on earth is a gift. None of
us knows how long we will be here. Start today and
begin thanking God for each and every day. Take time
in silence, every day, and listen to what God is saying to
you.
~Word of Life~ “To defend and promote life, to show reverence and love for it, is a task which God entrusts to every man.” — Pope John Paul II, Evangelium vitae, 42

The First Sunday of Advent As we begin Advent, we light one candle in the midst of all the darkness in our lives and in the world. It symbolizes our longing, our desire, and our hope. Three “advents” or “comings” shape our desire. We want to be renewed in a sense that Jesus came to save us from our sin and death. We want to experience his coming to us now, in our everyday lives, to help us live our lives with meaning and purpose. And we want to prepare for his coming to meet us at the end of our lives on this earth. So, we begin with our longing, our desire and our hope… http://onlineministries.creighton.edu/CollaborativeMinistry/Advent/firstweek.html For links to some excellent Advent websites, visit: ourladyofthesacredheart.org.
