I recently discovered some of your photos on flickr, in particular, the photos you took of african american women dancers. In our film, one of the characters is a dancer, and we want to fill her living space with beautiful photos of dancers, and your images are exactly what we have been looking for. I read your about the creative commons license on your photos, and it states that one can "copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format," as long as I give appropriate credit, which you will absolutely be given in the credits of the film. I thought I would reach out to you to get official permission to use your work in our film, I have shared it with the cast and crew and they have expressed their hopes that we will be able to use your photos. I have attached the specific photos that I would like to print - they will be printed professionally and will be the centerpiece in several scenes of the film. Here is some information about our film: We shoot June 9-26th (we would like to have these photos printed by by May 29th). Please see www.solacefilm.com Solace is a coming of age film Tchaiko Omawale is producing with Jerrika Hinton (currently starring on Grey’s Anatomy). Tchaiko's script was a semi-finalist at the Sundance Writers Lab in 2012 and is inspired by her struggles as a black woman with self-harm and disordered eating. It’s a groundbreaking coming of age story that explores young black girlhood, self-discovery and the communal nature of being alone. Our micro-budget filmmaking strategy is inspired by Ava DuVernay's call for black filmmakers to just make their stories and stop asking for permission. Starring: Hope Olaide Wilson (The Last Ship, Glee), Luke Rampersad and awaiting confirmation from two established older actors that we are very excited about. In terms of exposure and benefits, here’s a bit from our sponsorship deck: "Our successful Kickstarter campaign received support from several celebrities and global thought leaders such as Josh Bowman (Revenge) Chelsea Peretti (Brooklyn 99), Nick Kroll (Kroll Show), Jordan Peele (Key & Peele), Jenny Slate (Obvious Child), Natalia Kanem (United Nations, Director), Helene Gayle (CARE President and CEO) and many more. Of our 406 backers, more than 70% messaged the creator privately, eager to share their personal connection to the issues faced by characters in Solace. These messages came from women, men, straight, queer and people of various ethnicities, proving that the film is not only universal, it is relevant." The above translates into eyes and, quite possibly, wallets that are interested in this project. As we continue to add names both large and small to the film, again, this paves the way for a broader reach. Just last year, someone on our team purchased a 30K+ painting from a woman whose work they first saw on Tumblr. Our social media reach is large via the production team and supporters above. Please let me know your thoughts! I look forward from hearing back to you. Best, Kendra
