EXPLORE the possibilities... Workforce Education provides you with the technical skills and essential knowledge to earn more right out of college while laying the groundwork for a better, more fulfilling career. You live in a dynamic, growing region. Learn the skills that will help your career grow along with it.

Whether you are pursuing a degree, seeking a certificate to improve your résumé or building a new skill set for a potential career move, Collin College offers the courses you need. Designed to get you into the workforce quickly with the skills that employers are looking for, Collin offers Workforce Education in both credit and non-credit formats.

Credit courses allow you to build academic credits toward a degree or certificate. Credit certificates can be earned in as little as one year and make you a more desirable job candidate right away. The courses taken for the certificate can also can be applied toward an associate degree or bachelor’s degree. Collin College’s associate degree programs, which are planned out over the course of two years, also build toward a bachelor’s degree at four-year universities. See pages 2-3 for a list of Collin’s workforce credit degrees.

Non-credit courses are generally provided by Collin College Continuing Education and focus on skill development for use in the professional world or for self-improvement. From the health sciences to graphic design, and dozens of fields in between, non-credit classes are designed for adult learners rather than degree seekers. Learn the skills you need by taking only the classes you want. A list of non-credit offerings are available on pages 6-7.

“I can be creative in computer programming. I received hands-on experience at Collin. I focused on an application I was creating for my job which is helping me tremendously at my work right now. When we get comments on how the app I developed made people’s lives easier, that feels

really good.”

Dental Hygienist average salary: $79,700*

“With only 16 students in each class, we get individualized attention from clinical faculty. The clinic is top-notch with updated equipment and state-of-the-art technology. We have clinical rotations at area hospitals, assisted living centers, oral surgeons’ offices, and private periodontists’ offices. This experience has opened my eyes to the opportunities this profession offers. I enjoy working in the community clinics where we help people who cannot afford dentistry otherwise. As a dental hygienist, I get to engage in one-on-one relationships with patients and help people improve their overall health.”

Human Resources Management Certificate

If you see employees as talent or have a desire to bring out the best in people and help that talent find the right job, consider pursuing your potential as a Human Resource Manager. HR Managers are needed in every industry from small businesses to large corporations.

“After a short stint away from my 13-year career in Store Management and Human Resource Management at a national retail chain, I went back into retail Human Resource Management. I enrolled in the Human Resources Management Certificate Series in Continuing Education. The courses educated me about the different avenues that Human Resource Management covers. I believe employers appreciate when candidates are improving themselves and increasing their knowledge. While interviewing, recruiters made a point about asking me why I went back to school.”

WEB Developer Certificate SeriesGiven the ever-expanding importance of the Internet to most businesses and organizations, it is no surprise there are more than 70 web profession job titles in the Metroplex alone. The Web Developer Certificate Series is a great start for those interested in entering this field.

“Before moving to Texas, I had worked at the Miami public school system as a graphic designer but needed to upgrade my skills and knowledge especially in this fast - changing industry. The Web Development Certificate Series helped me brush up my skills in coding and design. With the additional knowledge I gained from the courses, I pursued and obtained an industry - recognized certification of Adobe Certified Associate, which will help me in my career.”
