MAKING THE MOST OF YOUR CHELSEA

The dates to remember…

Your Chelsea has an annual renewal with benefits effective from 1 October each year. An enrolment window will be opened in August each year to allow you to select your options for the following benefits year. The window will remain open for a reasonable period and you will be provided with advance notice of the enrolment dates.

Benefits cannot be selected outside of the annual enrolment window unless you join Chelsea FC during the year.

The limits…

You may use your salary to select and pay for benefits. However, by law, you are not allowed to reduce your salary below the National Minimum Wage. Your selections may have an impact on your ability to claim state benefits. Your Chelsea will not allow you to reduce your salary below the Lower Earnings Limit for National Insurance Contributions. If, after making your selections you fall below this threshold, you will be asked to revisit your selections.

Obtaining professional advice…

Chelsea FC is unable to give advice on what benefits you should select. During the enrolment period, access to the benefit providers will be available for further information.

If you should require professional advice regarding Your Chelsea, or the benefits and options available to you, please contact the adviser for Your Chelsea, Helm Godfrey.

Doing nothing is not an option…

Do not rely on iChoose defaulting to any existing benefits you may have. There is a genuine necessity to actively make your selections and reselect your existing benefits if you wish them to continue.

Need help…

If you have any difficulties logging into iChoose, or have any questions about how the benefits programme works, please contact Helm Godfrey:

Telephone: 020 7614 1070

E-mail: [email protected]

Details of who to contact for each of the benefits is also provided within the ‘getting in touch’ section of this guide.

If you do not have access to the internet, please contact Human Resources at Stamford Bridge.

Your Chelsea offers savings in income tax and/or National Insurance Contributions (NIC)

Your Chelsea has been designed to maximise the savings in income tax and NIC for you through a process known as ‘salary sacrifice’. Salary sacrifice is an agreement between an employee and their employer where the employee agrees to give up some of their ‘cash benefit’, i.e. salary, in return for a ‘non-cash benefit’.

As salary sacrifice reduces your gross salary, you will not have to pay income tax nor NIC on the value of certain benefits selected. HM Revenue & Customs allows some of the benefits to be free of income tax, whereas others will be taxed as a P11D ‘taxable benefit in kind’ so are income tax neutral, but you will still save NIC on the value of these benefits.

The treatment of Your Chelsea benefits for income tax and NIC is based on our understanding of the current tax situation, which may change from time to time. You will not be able to change Your Chelsea benefits during the year if the treatment of income tax and NIC changes. The table shows whether there is a saving in income tax and NIC generated by the various Your Chelsea benefits.

Childcare VouchersYour Chelsea offers access to a Childcare Voucher Scheme to help meet the cost of childcare arrangements.

What does this benefit provide?

Employees who have been in receipt of childcare vouchers through Your Chelsea since before April 2011 may select between £20 and the current statutory limit of £243 per month, providing a valuable saving in the cost of childcare arrangements. For example, in accordance with the maximum childcare voucher of £243 per month:

A basic rate income tax payer could save £78 per month (£933 per annum)

A higher rate income tax payer could save £102 per month (£1,225 per annum).

Employees who start to receive childcare vouchers after 6 April 2011 may be restricted in the amount of vouchers they may receive depending on whether they are a basic, higher or additional rate income tax payer. Full details of these restrictions can be found on the iChoose website.

Limitations

Childcare vouchers can be used for most forms of childcare including nurseries, childminders, nannies, before and after school clubs, holiday clubs, crèches and most play schemes. The childcare

provider will need to be registered and approved. The vouchers are available for the care of children up to 1 September following the child’s 15th birthday, or 16th birthday if the child is disabled.

Cost of this benefit

The cost of the vouchers would be deducted from your gross salary and you would not have to pay income tax or National Insurance Contributions on the value of the vouchers, therefore providing a significant saving as set out above.

Detailed information on this benefit is available on the iChoose website.

YOUR LIFESTYLE BENEFITS

Cycle to WorkYour Chelsea offers you the use of a bicycle through the Government’s Green Transport Plan, therefore saving you income tax and National Insurance Contributions on the value of the bicycle.

What does this benefit provide?

You can elect to receive either an Evans or Halfords voucher for an amount between £100 and £1,000. The voucher can then be used to purchase a bicycle and/or safety equipment.

Chelsea FC buys the bicycle and safety equipment and makes them available to you for a 12 month period in return for the cost of the voucher, which would be deducted from you by salary sacrifice. At the end of the hire period, the bicycle and safety equipment may be sold to you at a nominal ex-rental cost in line with HMRC guidelines, reflecting the second hand market value of the bicycle and safety equipment at the date of sale.

The cost of the voucher would be deducted from your gross salary over a 12 month period and you would not have to pay income tax or National Insurance Contributions on the value of the voucher, therefore providing a significant saving:

Cost to a Basic Rate Cost to a Higher Rate Voucher Value Income Tax Payer Income Tax Payer

£250 £170 £145

£1,000 £680 £580

Saving 32% 42%

Restrictions

The bicycle should be used, at least in part, for journeys made between your home and your place of work. The vouchers cannot be exchanged for cash and need to be used in full. You are unable to ‘top-up’ the amount you spend by adding your own cash to the value of the voucher. Personal insurance is your responsibility on your journey to and from work as well as insurance for the bike itself.

Cost of this benefit

The cost of the voucher would be deducted from your gross salary and you would not have to pay income tax or National Insurance Contributions on the value of the voucher selected, therefore providing a significant saving as set out above.

Detailed information on this benefit is available on the iChoose website.

What does this benefit provide?

Chelsea FC will pay a monthly contribution equal to 5% of your gross basic salary once you have joined the Plan.

Whilst it is not compulsory for you to personally contribute to the Plan, you can contribute if you wish and enjoy the associated savings in income tax and National Insurance Contributions. £167 for a basic rate income tax payer

£196 for a higher rate income tax payer

Nomination Form

It is important to keep Standard Life updated with any changes to your nominated beneficiaries for payment of your benefits in the event of your death. Forms for this purpose can be downloaded from the iChoose website, which you should complete and return to Standard Life whenever your personal circumstances change.

Cost of this benefit

The full cost of the 5% contribution is paid by Chelsea FC.

If you should wish to personally contribute:

Your monthly pension contribution would be deducted from you through salary sacrifice and would therefore provide you with a saving in income tax and National Insurance Contributions, which would significantly reduce the cost of the contribution.

To encourage employees to save for their retirement, Chelsea FC will make an additional contribution for any employee who personally contributes to the pension through salary sacrifice.

YOUR FINANCE AND SECURITY BENEFITS

Critical Illness InsuranceYour Chelsea offers you access to insurance for you and your family for financial protection in the event of the diagnosis of a critical illness.

What does this benefit provide?

Critical illness insurance provides a tax-free lump sum payment if you are diagnosed as suffering from one of the specified illnesses. With advances in medical science and treatments, critical illnesses are not necessarily terminal, but they may leave you in a position where financial assistance may be required.

You can select a benefit of either one or two times your gross basic annual salary, subject to a maximum benefit of £500,000.

Please note that this benefit is subject to a pre-existing conditions exclusion.

Can I include my family?

Yes, you can insure your partner. If you elect to include your partner, they would be insured for the same benefit as you have selected for yourself, subject to a maximum benefit of £120,000.

Any children under the age of 18 are covered for free if you select cover for yourself. Cover for children is restricted to a maximum of 25% of your benefit or £20,000, whichever is lower.

Cost of this benefit

The monthly premiums are confirmed on the iChoose website. The cost of critical illness insurance through Your Chelsea will typically be significantly cheaper for you than making your own individual arrangements elsewhere.

The premium for the benefit that you select would be deducted from you through salary sacrifice and would therefore provide you with a saving in National Insurance Contributions, which would further reduce the cost of the benefit.

Detailed information on this benefit is available on the iChoose website.

Personal Accident InsuranceYour Chelsea offers you the option to insure yourself and your family for financial protection in the event of serious injury or accidental death.

What does this benefit provide?

You can insure yourself for any multiple of your gross basic annual salary up to a maximum of ten, which is subject to an overall benefit limit of £1,000,000.

The insurance provides a tax-free lump sum payment in the event of your accidental death. In the event of your permanent disablement as a result of an accident, a percentage of the sum assured would become payable.

Can I include my family?

Yes, you can insure your partner, providing that you also select this benefit for yourself. If you elect to include your partner, you can select any benefit up to a maximum of £250,000 in multiples of £25,000.

Any children under the age of 18 (23 if in full time education) are automatically covered for free if you select cover for yourself. Cover for your children is restricted to a maximum benefit of £25,000 per child, i.e. if you have three children for example, the maximum total benefit you can therefore receive is £75,000.

Cost of this benefit

The monthly premiums are confirmed on the iChoose website. The cost of personal accident insurance through Your Chelsea will typically be cheaper for you than making your own individual arrangements elsewhere.

The premium for the benefit that you select would be deducted from you through salary sacrifice and would therefore provide you with a saving in National Insurance Contributions, which would further reduce the cost of the benefit.

Detailed information on this benefit is available on the iChoose website.

Glossary of Terms

Basic salary

Your basic salary is now referred to as your reference salary. This is the contracted level of remuneration prior to any benefits or bonus.

Child

Please note the definition of ‘child’ varies according to benefit and policy cover. Generally, the definition is for an unmarried child under the age of 18, or if that child is in full time education, under the age of 21. Some benefits may include step children and some may not. Each policy may differ and needs to be consulted.

NIC

National Insurance Contributions.

Reference salary

The reference salary is a fixed salary level not affected by any salary sacrifice. Reference salary will be used for calculating all salary related benefits.

For example, if you sacrifice £500 for a benefit and your current reference salary is £20,000, your reference salary will be £20,000 and ‘Your Chelsea’ salary will be £19,500.

Risk benefits

This is a term for insurance benefits provide under Your Chelsea including Life Assurance, Personal Accident Insurance and Critical Illness Insurance.

Salary sacrifice

A salary sacrifice happens when you give up the right to receive part of your cash benefit, i.e. salary, in return for the provision of a non-cash benefit of equal or greater value from Chelsea FC.

Spouse or partner

This is defined as a person that you live with in a partner relationship, are married to, or with whom you have a civil partnership.

Total reward

The total reward is the sum of your reference salary plus the sum of any contributions paid by Chelsea FC towards your benefits.

Your Chelsea salary

This is your post-sacrifice salary and under your salary sacrifice scheme, becomes variable dependent upon your choices. Your entitlement to state benefits will be based upon this salary.
