A Letter from the Chair

As a member of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, I have the distinct pleasure of serving as Chair of the Four-Star Accredited Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce. The accreditation was achieved by many years of work from our dedicated Board of Directors and staff. Please take a few minutes to review the following pages to see some of the highlights of the past year. We look forward to continuing to provide unparalleled service while placing innovation at the forefront. The creativity and success of our Chamber is tied directly to the success of our business community. Remember that every dollar you spend in Jackson Hole supports our local economy and makes us stronger and more resilient. We are proud to celebrate tourism as a vital segment of our economy. We also remember that all of the businesses in Jackson Hole rely on local residents for their success. Whether it’s a well-trained and productive staff or the patrons who add a unique style, supporting local businesses is the first step to boosting Jackson’s economy and to the Chamber earning the Five-Star Accreditation. If you’re not currently a member of the Chamber, we invite you to join us. Take the opportunity to help build a stronger Jackson Hole.

Scott Anderson • U.S. Chamber of Commerce Board Member

The Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce was proud to celebrate the 1,000 member milestone last year. Much has been said about this achievement, not simply because of the number, but because growing membership shows the engagement of our active Board of Directors and the energy of our staff. Our still somewhat-new committee structure allows 45 member businesses to be represented and involved in the leadership of the Chamber, which creates a grassroots affect on driving membership. The milestone is also a testament to the staff that is willing to listen and provide individualized support while ensuring that Chamber benefits continue to improve and diversify. I would also like to highlight our advocacy role – the Chamber is proud to

be the voice for business in Jackson Hole. From working to open Yellowstone as scheduled in the spring of 2013 to providing public comments at local meetings, we are utilizing many methods to advocate on behalf of our members. You will see us participating in Wyoming Legislative Sessions and attending Teton County Commission, Jackson Town Council, and Jackson Hole Travel & Tourism Joint Powers Board meetings. In the coming year, we look forward to introducing the community to the idea of a Destination Marketing Organization or DMO and exploring the exciting opportunity of providing the high-quality service expected of a world-class destination. We are working to enhance our services with tools such as DestiMetrics, the premier provider of lodging performance benchmarking tools to mountain resorts throughout the western United States. DestiMetrics is providing numbers on a 45-day forward looking basis that will identify occupancy strengths and opportunities which will enable lodging properties and destination marketers to more efficiently manage rates and target promotions. The Chamber would like to recognize community partners, including the participating lodging properties, who have helped to make this tool available: Jackson Hole Central Reservations, Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, Jackson Hole Travel & Tourism Joint Powers Board, and JH AIR. The DestiMetrics collaboration, along with growing membership, is indicative of the ways our community is working together to augment expectations and to become a sophisticated destination with a friendly Wyoming spirit. Look for more information throughout the spring and summer seasons in Chamber communications and feel free to reach out to me and to anyone on our Board of Directors and staff. We are proud to celebrate the Chamber’s success as the community’s success.

The Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce is proud to celebrate achieving the milestone of 1,000 members during the 2012/13 Fiscal Year. Membership with the Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce has seen steady increase in recent years. President/CEO Jeff Golightly commented, “Our growing membership shows the energy from our very active Board of Directors. Their enthusiasm spreads through the community, engaging current members and attracting future members. Additionally, I am very proud of the team here at the Chamber. Their commitment to the membership and willingness to listen and provide individualized support ensures that Chamber benefits will continue to improve and diversify.” “The strength of our membership is in its depth and diversity. Members who focus on connecting with visitors are finding value alongside the members who focus on connecting business-to-business,” said Andy Heffron, Membership Manager.

He continued, “Members are seeing direct benefits to their businesses by utilizing the tools that have been made available, whether it’s advertising on the Chamber’s website and Explorer Magazine or making connections at Chamber Mixers and other networking events. The Chamber is the voice for business in Jackson Hole.” Jim Waldrop, Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce Past-Chair, commented, “I couldn’t have been more proud to be the Chair of the Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce during this critical and transitional time. Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce membership and its concurrent impact on the community are at all-time highs through innovative and progressive business initiatives, creative and thoughtful events and programs, and thoughtful and genuine visitor service efforts.” Kent Elliott, former Membership Manager and current Destination Sales Manager, commented “Reaching 1,000 members is a milestone for your Chamber. A lot of hard work from the team and referrals from our members allowed us to achieve the goal and I think it is a clear signal that businesses look to the Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce to help support their businesses and to help foster an environment for healthy tourism. The Chamber works diligently to achieve this. One of the programs that helps drive tourism into our community and therefore spills into everyone’s doors is the Jackson Hole Travel & Tourism Board’s funding of Destination Tradeshows that the Chamber attends along with other members of the business community.” The Chamber would like to recognize the support of the Jackson Hole Travel & Tourism Joint Powers Board. The strength of this alliance was exemplified during the spring of 2013 when the organizations worked to open Yellowstone, an effort that directly benefited the business community and the residents who rely on the tourism industry. The Chamber would also like to recognize the leadership of former Executive Director Tim O’Donoghue and former Presidents and Chairs of the Board of Directors, but most recently John Rutter (2010-11), Kevin Olson (2011-12), and Jim Waldrop (2012-13).

Taking Action to Boost the Economy

The Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce and the Jackson Hole Travel & Tourism Joint Powers Board pledged to open Yellowstone National Park despite federal sequestration budget cuts that took effect in March of 2014. The Chamber and the TTB accepted the economic burden on behalf of the business community and all the residents who rely on the tourism industry, the primary economic engine of Jackson Hole. A group of Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce members joined together to sponsor the effort to open Yellowstone and to diminish the cost absorbed by the Chamber and the TTB. Jeff Golightly, Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce President/CEO, commented, “The Chamber is proud of the community for supporting this important initiative to boost local tourism.” He continued, “These sponsorships bolster the extraordinary opportunity for positive PR and will position the community to take advantage of the spotlight. Sincere thanks go to the members who stepped in to help support the efforts.” The delayed opening of Yellowstone due to sequestration made national headlines. The Jackson Hole Chamber of Com-merce and Jackson Hole Travel & Tourism Joint Powers Board worked to make a positive story out of the national recognition. The Cody Country Chamber of Commerce also raised money in order to open the East Gate of Yellowstone National Park on time and received generous donations from more than 80 businesses, individuals, and organizations to help preserve their full summer season. Executive Director of the Cody Chamber Scott Baylo commented, “I’d like to acknowledge everyone from WYDOT, the Park Service, Governor Mead’s Office, the Wyoming Office of Tourism, the City of Cody, Park County, our friends in Jackson and all of our great members and donors who supported this effort.” The Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce would like to recognize the businesses and individuals who supported Jackson’s efforts to open Yellowstone. Their investments helped to buoy the economy and allowed the entire community to make the most of the full summer season.
