Y OU R SUPP ORT

...IS STRONGER THAN CANCER

Since the 1950s, bright yellow daffodils have

arrived in communities across Canada to mark

the beginning of the Canadian Cancer Society

Daffodil Campaign.

The daffodil is resilient. It survives our harsh

winters and is the first flower to bloom in the

spring – a time of renewal and hope. The

daffodil is a symbol of strength, courage and

life. During our annual Daffodil Campaign,

Canadians rally around this symbol and take

action to help fund game-changing research

and support services.

With 1 in 2 Canadians expected to be diagnosed

with cancer in their lifetime, many of us have

been or will be directly affected by this disease.

*Canadian Cancer Society website

The Centre will be supporting this campaign but

taking orders of daffodil plants -$5.00/potted

plant.

Orders will be taken only by

the Centre’s volunteer on

duty . Deadline to purchase

plants is March 21st.

Delivery of the pots will be

the week of April 8th.

Thank you for your support

of the Canadian Cancer Society, Renfrew County!

March Walk in a Hike with Nature

Submitted by Pam Gaudette

Well winter certainly has been unpredictable. We had planned two snowshoe days in January and

two in February, with us having to cancel one in January and one in February. We did have nine

participants for the snowshoe walk at the Laurentian Valley Skate Rink in February. The morning

was beautiful and of course the afternoon brought a huge snowstorm to the area. All who

participated really thought the trail was beautiful.

So, we will book two snowshoe days for March, who knows the days might be a snowshoe day or a

hike day or maybe cancelled. If there are any concerns always call the Centre in the morning of the

scheduled day, listen to the radio or check your emails.

We are planning for Day One to be on Tuesday March 5th at 10 am at the Pembroke Marina.

We’ll meet at the beginning of the Kiwanis’s Walkway at the Pointer Boat. We’ll snowshoe along the

path and come back on the river providing the ice is in good shape.

Everyone knows how to get to the marina so I’ll skip the directions.

Day two is planned for Tuesday March 26th at 10 am at the Petawawa Terrace

Provincial Nature Reserve. The form er location of the Petaw aw a Fish Hatchery. The

Terrace is about a 146-metre high sand ridge that was formed when the glacial Lake Algonquin

drained down the Ottawa River to the Champlain Sea.

Need to know: The trails are designated easy to m oderate. There is the Upper Terrace

and a Lower Terrace, both are worth visiting.

Directions: Drive along County Rd 51 tow ards Petaw aw a, northeast of Pem broke.

Turn to the right onto Laurentian Drive in the Town of Petawawa and follow along, it will be on the

right side of the road.

If interested please come, if you need a ride please call the Centre for the possibility of car-pooling

or if you are unsure of the directions you might want to follow us using your own car.

Be prepared with snowshoes, poles if needed, and if wearing

boots have good treads with grips (just in case). Hope to see

you there!

The day could be cancelled in the event of snowstorm,

freezing rain, ice pellets abnormally high winds, or severe

below normal cold temperatures.
