WELC MESince its foundation nearly 40 years ago, the Australian Institute of Applied Sciences (AIAS) has focused on providing practical courses in health and well-being for students so that they can gain the qualifications needed to start working as soon as possible.

Brisbane Campus337 Logan Rd, Stones CornerThe purpose-designed campus in Brisbane is located in Stones Corner, only minutes from the CBD and easily accessible by car or public transport. Facilities include a courtyard with adjacent library and computer room, kitchen amenities and internet access (featuring wi-fi network available anywhere on the campus). The Campus is spread over three buildings allowing us to tailor the classrooms and clinic set up to each faculty's needs.

Melbourne CampusLevel 4, 399 Lonsdale Street, MelbourneLocated in the very heart of the city centre, this is the newest AIAS campus. It is close to universities, restaurants, theatres, shopping complexes and quality sporting facilities. This campus provides a great learning environment including, light and airy classrooms, library resources with quiet study areas, wireless internet connection and computer/printing facilities.

Training Salon and ClinicThe campuses have a number of training salons open to the public and are staffed by our trainers. The Brisbane campus has speciality clinics within Beauty, Massage and Natural Medicine, as well as a Hairdressing Salon. The Melbourne campus has a fully-equipped massage room and iridology camera equipment.

The training salons opening hours are embedded into many of the courses available, ensuring students gain hands-on practical experience working with real clients in a real work environment.

DescriptionThe Certificate II in Nail Technology covers a wide range of topics from basic nail care through to nail art and advanced nail treatments. This qualification will allow you to operate as a nail technician. You will acquire skills to interact with customers whilst providing manicure and pedicure services. As part of your qualification you will spend time within the AIAS Beauty Clinic which operates to the public, giving you experience with real clients in a real work environment.

Career pathwaysA graduate will potentially have ample job opportunities as there are a large number of salons, nail bars and spas located in major cities around the world.

Nail Technology is an increasingly popular qualification; graduates have the opportunity to gain further industry training whilst working full time in certain places.

Certificate II in Retail Make-Up and Skin Care SIB20110

Duration: 12 weeks (1 Semester)

DescriptionThe Certificate II in Retail Make-Up and Skin Care includes topics on the importance of communication in the workplace, demonstrating and selling products and performing routine store functions. As part of your qualification you will spend time within the AIAS Beauty Clinic which operates to the public, giving you experience with real clients in a real work environment.

Career pathwaysThis course provides graduates with a solid foundation for a career in beauty, whether in a beauty salon, a specialised salon retail counter or home business. Work opportunities as a freelance make-up artist are available within the entertainment industry and social functions including weddings, anniversaries and other special occassions.

As part of your qualification, you will spend time at the AIAS Beauty training salon, which opens to the public, giving you the experience with clients in a real work environment.

Career pathwaysGraduates can look forward to job opportunities as a trained beauty therapist at salons, spa facilities, own business and also the wider beauty industry.

While this qualification has an employment outcome in its own right, it can also be used as a pathway for learners wishing to continue their studies at undergraduate level at university.

Accreditation and RecognitionAll of our massage therapy courses are from the HLT07 Health Training Package. These are developed in conjunction with the industry and endorsed by the National Skills Standards Council, so graduates can be sure they have the skills needed to enter this exciting field.

DescriptionThe Certificate IV in Massage Therapy Practice covers fundamental knowledge required for relaxation and therapeutic massage. It provides the foundation for further studies into remedial massage programs which cover a range of subjects including lymphatic drainage, sports massage and cross fibre mobilisation.

The study of communication skills and clinic management are also vital components of this massage course.

As part of your qualification you will spend time within the AIAS Massage Clinic which operates to the public, giving you experience with real clients in a real work environment.

Career pathwaysGraduates from the Certificate IV in Massage Therapy Practice will be competent base level massage therapists.

You will find employment in a range of areas including in a clinic (or in your own clinic), in a spa facility, with sports teams and in the fitness industry, or in an aged care or a palliative care facility. Common job titles for those who have studied this course are Massage Therapist or Massage Therapy Practitioner.

Some units of study from the Certificate IV in Massage Therapy Practice can be credited towards other courses at the AIAS. Our graduates usually extend their studies to include the Diploma of Remedial Massage, Diploma of Traditional Chinese Medicine Remedial Massage, Diploma of Shiatsu and Oriental Therapies or Diploma of Reflexology.

DescriptionThe Diploma of Shiatsu and Oriental Therapies is designed to give you the education and training to launch your career in Shiatsu and Oriental Therapies.

Participants in this diploma will gain skills in Chinese acupressure, massage therapy, remedial massage and advanced deep tissue massage. The program will also train the students in communication, anatomy and physiology, clinical medicine and practice administration.

As part of your qualification you will spend time within the AIAS Massage Clinic which operates to the public, giving you experience with real clients in a real work environment.

Career pathwaysThe Diploma of Shiatsu and Oriental Therapies is designed to give you the education and training to launch your career in Shiatsu and Oriental Therapies.

Participants of this diploma can expect to embark on successful careers as Shiatsu Practitioners.

This course can also be used as a stepping stone to further study in additional massage practices at Diploma and Advanced Diploma level.

DescriptionRemedial Massage is the manipulation of muscle and connective tissue to promote relaxation and well-being, relieve pain, treat injury and increase circulation. The Diploma of Remedial Massage at the AIAS will give you the education and training needed to launch your career as a Remedial Massage Therapist.

This is an advanced level course, and applicants will need to have successfully completed the Certificate IV in Massage Therapy Practice or an equivalent qualification.

Students of the Diploma of Remedial Massage will receive training in many aspects of remedial massage including massage therapy, lymphatic drainage, treatment for athletes, treatment for chronic diseases and deep tissue massage.

You will also gain important training in professional practice, legal and ethical requirements, anatomy and physiology and clinical management skills.

As part of your qualification you will spend time within the AIAS Massage Clinic which operates to the public, giving you experience with real clients in a real work environment.

Career pathwaysGraduates of the Diploma of Remedial Massage will have the skills required to be self-employed as independent practitioners or to work within a larger health service.

The course covers the provision of remedial massage treatment to clients with specific needs such as injury management, rehabilitation, palliative care, aged care and women and children. Practitioners at this level may supervise other massage therapists.

DescriptionReflexology is based on the principle that certain points on the hands, feet and ears correspond with other parts of the body. Applying pressure to these points with tools or lotions can treat pain, illness and injury.

The Diploma of Reflexology at the AIAS is the ideal course to give you the skills to launch your career as a reflexologist.

The course will give you a firm grounding in all key areas of reflexology and related disciplines such as Massage Therapy. This coupled with modules on Medical Science such as Anatomy and Physiology, and Musculoskeletal Anatomy means that you’ll have a well-rounded qualification.

This course covers the training and skills required to operate in a clinic environment, ensuring that you’re fully able to conduct yourself in a professional and ethical manner.

As part of your qualification you will spend time within the AIAS Massage Clinic which operates to the public, giving you experience with real clients in a real work environment.

There are opportunities for you to operate as a self-employed independent practitioner or to gain employment in any of the settings mentioned above. Once you have gained experience and become established in the field, you might progress to management level, coordinating the work of other reflexology practitioners.

Graduates of the Diploma of Reflexology from the AIAS often find employment as Reflexologists or Reflexology Practitioners.

The Diploma of Reflexology can also be used as a pathway to higher education.

• Clinic TCM Remedial 2 • First Aid *

Career pathwaysThis qualification provides skills in Traditional Chinese Medicine Remedial Massage as well as specialist skills in treatment for women and children and in traumatology treatment. Graduates may also work in conjunction with practitioners qualified in other TCM areas of practice.

Graduates from this course will generally be successful as TCM Remedial Massage Practitioners, TCM Remedial Massage Therapists, Chinese Remedial Massage Practitioners, and Tui Na Practitioners.

Some units of study from the Diploma of Traditional Chinese Medicine Remedial Massage can be credited towards another course at the AIAS.

Many graduates choose to further their education by undertaking an Advanced Diploma with the AIAS.

Accreditation and RecognitionThe AIAS Natural Medicine Faculty provides you with nationally recognised world-class natural medicine courses that are endorsed as part of the HLT07 Health Training Package. These are developed in conjunction with the industry and endorsed by the National Skills Standards Council, so graduates can be sure they have the skills and knowledge needed to enter this exciting field.

The course covers the provision of aromatherapy treatment to clients with specific needs such as palliative care, aged care and women and children.

DescriptionWith a focus on aromatherapy-based relaxation massage, this course provides the broad range of knowledge and practical skills required to be an aromatherapist.

The Certificate IV in Aromatherapy provides an opportunity for students to develop basic anatomy and physiology knowledge. The knowledge and practical experience obtained in all subjects studied in this course will provide the student with the necessary skills in assessing their client’s needs, so they can competently plan and implement an appropriate series of treatments.

As part of your qualification you will spend time within the AIAS Natural Medicine Clinic which operates to the public, giving you experience with real clients in a real work environment.

Career pathwaysThis qualification covers the skills needed to be an entry level Aromatherapist. At the completion of this certificate, you will have the basic skills in aromatherapy health assessment and treatment.

You may find work in a clinic, aged care facility, a health service or a spa facility giving basic aromatherapy treatments. Alternatively, graduates find work in manufacturing aromatherapy products or in the retail area of the industry.

At this level the graduate aromatherapist can formulate applications within a relaxation framework, and would be expected to have a basic knowledge of a limited range (minimum of 29) of oils. A person with a Certificate IV in Aromatherapy will predominately use massage as a method of application.

While the Certificate IV in Aromatherapy can be used as a direct pathway to your career, it is also a stepping stone to the Diploma of Aromatherapy, which offers further specialisation.

If you do not hold evidence of your English ability, you may choose to sit the free AIAS English Entry Test on campus or in your agent's office. We will assess your results and provide you with a recommendation for either direct entry to AIAS or study further English before joining us. To progress to AIAS without taking IELTS, a student must satisfactorily complete their English studies at an AIAS partner language school or pass the AIAS English Entry Test.

All English language entry requirements are subject to the Department of Immigration and Border Protection requirements.*Successful completion of EAP allows direct entry to AIAS courses. Academic entry requirements must also be met.
