Ocean tides are a perpetual resource.

Ocean tides occur because of the sun and moon’s gravitational pull on our planet. Each day there aretwo high tides and two low tides.

The first tidal energy plant was built in 1966 near in France. This spot was used because ithas extreme high and low tides.

The first plant was started in 1925, but due to lack of money, the project was abandoned. Use of tidal energy was not a new idea. Dammed water turned paddle wheels and transformed that energy to grind wheat hundreds of years ago.

Tidal barrages (or dams) trap water at high tide. As the water rushes out at low tide, it spins the turbines. The spinning turbines turn the shaft in the generator which transforms the mechanicalenergy into electrical energy..

We transform the kinetic movement of ocean tides into electricity by using turbines.

•France has the largest tidal energy plant in the world.

•Canada built another tidal energy plant near Nova Scotia in 1982.

Interesting facts…..The highest tides in the world are at the Bay of Fundy in Nova Scotia, Canada.

Highest tide recorded was 54 feet.
