THE EQUIPPERFEBRUARY 2020

Dear EVBC Family,

Valentine’s Day is the holiday associated with love. Most of us got to great lengths to showour significant other how much we love them with gifts of candy, flowers, and jewelry. We buycards expressing emotional sentiment of our undying love and devotion. We plan evenings ofromantic dinners surrounded by the ambiance of candlelight and music. And all of that is welland good, but I wonder if it captures the true essence of what love is meant to be.

I found this devotion that I would like to share with you. I cannot take credit for its words, for itcomes from Inspiration Ministries, but it really resonated with me as I pondered what it meansto truly love. It begins with a portion of scripture found in Song of Solomon 8:7, “Many waterscannot quench love, nor will rivers overflow it; if a man were to give all the riches of his housefor love, it would be utterly despised.” The following is the devotion:

“Those who have never experienced true love cannot imagine its power. It is so powerful thatSolomon said that it is “as strong as death.” It is not mere emotion but much deeper, cutting tothe core of our being. It consumes us, body, soul, and spirit.

Many emotions seem similar to love. Admiration. Friendship. Interest. Lust. But true lovestrikes deeper. It cannot be extinguished or quenched, no matter how many waters may bethrown onto it. If entire rivers were to be redirected onto love they would not overflow.

It is also priceless. This is a love that cannot be measured or counted. But the Bible tells usthat “if a man were to give all the riches of his house for love, it would be utterly despised.”True love cannot be purchased. It is about heart and spirit. Our very lives. Things that moneycannot buy.

The Bible tells us true love is not a passing feeling but an entirely new way of living. It is abyproduct not of human emotion but fruit of the Spirit. This Spirit-inspired love is patient andkind. Never jealous or arrogant. It “never fails.” Faith, hope, and love may abide, “but thegreatest of these is love” (1 Corinthians 13).

Solomon may seem to have written about romantic love. But ultimately he described a lovethat can come only from God, the kind of love that He has for us, but also a picture of the kindof love we need to have for Him. A love of passion and selfless devotion. Giving and notreceiving. A love that consumes us. That changes our lives.”

PRAY, PRAY THAT GOD WILL HELP YOU SEE 20/20 IN 2020

Be willing to share the testimonies God reminds you of!

You’ve heard the old cliche’ “Hindsight is always 20/20.” but, what does that really mean?” When we look back at our lives we can see clearly (like glasses help restore 20/20 vision). Looking back helps us reflect on the past, learn lessons, and see how God has been faithful to carry us through!Pray. Ask God to show you and reveal to you with 20/20 clear vision how He has been at work in your life. Take a moment to think back… What testimonies of His faithfulness did He remind you of? How have you seen God at work in your life, your family, our church family? Now, stop and take time to thank God for His faithfulness, blessings, and lessons learned. Thank God that we can always trust in Him just as Philippians 4:6-9 tells us! Ok, now it is your job to share those testimonies to help encourage someone else. Maybe its a pre-believer and you can share the Good News of The Gospel. Maybe it’s a believer that is facing a struggle right now. Maybe it’s just to celebrate how good God is.Whatever the case: CARE to SHARE! Pastor

#evbc20/20

As I prayed and began to look back over the last 26 years here @ EVBC, my mind is flooded with an enormous amount of testimonies of God’s faithfulness!! God has been so good to us! It is easy to look back and se that with 20/20 vision. I pray that these testimonies will lead us to look forward with 20/20 vision in 2020!

Love you all,

Looking back preparing for the future!

When I think of love, the hymn “The Love of God” comes to mind. One of my favorite verses says,

“Could we with ink the ocean fill and were the skies of parchment made, were every stalk on earth a quill and every man a scribe by trade, to write the love of God above would drain the ocean dry, nor could the scroll contain the whole tho stretched from sky to sky.”

I love the description and picture of the extravagant, amazing and wonderful love God has for us, but it challenges me. I wonder if I’m living as if I believe I’m loved with that kind of love? Am I loving my family, my children, my church with even a smidgen of that kind of love? At first, I throw my hands up and think, “How is it even possible?” But, then, I remember Hebrews13:6, “The Lord is my helper” and again in Galatians 5 where the fruits of the Spirit are listed including “love”. It’s completely possible, when I seek God’s help.

Let’s extend that a bit further, how do we teach our children to love with God’s love? Modeling that love is the best way. When you show love to your family, they receive that love and remember. When you show love to others, your children are watching and remembering. I saw an idea on Pinterest for a counting down to Valentine’s Day by reading through and talking about 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 as a family. Here’s the list of traits that could be defined, demonstrated, and practiced with others:

Day 1 - Patience Day 2 - Kindness Day 3 - Not envying Day 4 - Not boasting Day 5 - Not arrogant Day 6 - Not rude Day 7 - Not selfish Day 8 - Not irritable Day 9 - Not resentful Day 10 - Not rejoicing at wrongdoing Day 11 - Rejoices with the truth Day 12 - Bears all things Day 13 - Believes all things Day 14 - Hopes all things Day 15 - Endures all things

Pray with us for our children to know God’s love through our Savior, Jesus Christ. Happy Valentine’s, Karon U. - Children’s Ministry Coordinator

We have exciting news in the JCM Ministry. We have a new check in system. Our old system was not functioning properly and wouldn’t stay up during service times. I think parents are going to LOVE our new system. We are very excited to start using this system. Greg, Jon and Sharon have worked countless hours to get all the information in this system so we can start to use it. THANK YOU for all your hard work. Greg used the iPad Sunday and checked in children with the new system. We will be there Sunday to help parents learn the new system. Parents, just key in the last four digits of your phone number to bring up your child. You do not have to tear off labels they come out individually from the printer. The iPad has been mounted on the check in desk in the hallway of the JCM department. We look forward to seeing you Sunday and helping you learn the new system. Please remember to pray for our JCM parents and children. Winter is especially rough with sickness abounding during these months. We have had several of our JCM kids sick with flu, RSV, bronchitis, ear infections, etc. Many have had more than one round of it. Please pray for their health and protection. We still have a need for workers on Sunday evening. This is just one hour and we usually have a smaller number of children. Please see me if you could help out once a month. This Sunday evening, we will have a time of fellowship downstairs. We will not have a nursery so the children can enjoy the food and fellowship too.

A personal note of thanks to all who have prayed for my husband, Greg. He began chemotherapy last month and the doctor has

advised him to stay away from crowds for a few months. He misses everyone so much but especially the kids. He is hoping to

get back once the flu subsides and the weather turns warmer. God has certainly heard and answered our prayers. He didn’t

have any bad side effects from his first round of chemotherapy. He is currently taking his second round. Please continue to

pray that the Lord would continue work to bring healing to his body. We love you all.
