The heart is the wellspring of our deepest motivations, a container for love. The goal of Sufism is to develop the capacity of the heart the capacity to hold all the complexities of life in a matrix of love and to discover the divinity inherent in all of creation.

Sufism is not a religion in the sense of being a system of beliefs, separable from other religions, but a school of experience focused on the cultivation of the heart and the deepening of awareness through the practice of prayer, meditation and spiritual inquiry.

Pir Zia Inayat-Khan is a scholar and teacher of Sufism in the lineage of his grandfather, Hazrat Inayat Khan. He received his B.A. (Hons) in Persian Literature from the London School of Oriental and African Studies, and his M.A. and Ph.D. in Religion from Duke Uni-versity.

Pir Zia is president of the Inayati Order (formerly known as the Sufi Order International) and founder of Suluk Academy, a school of contemplative study with branches in the United States and Europe. He lives with his wife and two children in New Lebanon, New York.

We are born human beings in fact. To become human in truth is an inner journey. On this journey, our guides are the holy ones

the prophets and prophetesses of all lands, who are venerated as embodiments of human wholeness,

In this retreat we will invoke the holy ones as guides and living symbols as we rise up from the multiplicity of the earth toward the unity of the Source, and descend

anew, emboldened to fulfill the sacred purpose for which we were created.

P I R Z I A I N A Y A T - K H A N will explore with us our human and our divine potential as expressed through the teachings of his grandfather, Hazrat Pir-o-Murshid Inayat Khan, spiritual teacher, renowned Indian musician and founder of the Sufi Order International (now named after the founder The Inayati-Order), and the teachings of his father, spiritual teacher Hazrat Pir Vilayat Inayat Khan. I S C H T A R D V O R K will conduct practices that deepen Pir Zias teachings thus creating a container of shared experiences. Tools are being offered to relate spiritual insights to ones own being, ones situation in life and daily routine. Ischtar Dvok is a psychotherapist and teacher in the Suluk-Akademy.

M U N I R V O S S , well experienced teacher of meditation and leader of the Esoteric School of the German Sufi Order, will guide through the early morning meditation. On Sunday evening he will lead a traditional dhikr evening. Munir Voss has studied philosophy, physics, psychology and astrology.

Alev Aliye Kowalzik, Ophiel and Sangita van Leer and Mehmet Ungan will accompany the seminar musically.

J U V E N I L E S A N D Y O U N G A D U L T S : The actor and theatre teacher Zahir Christian Malin (www.christian-malin.com) offers theatrical work in the time between the sessions of Pir Zia Inayat-Khan: By means of practices of body, sensitization and space we will come into play, into interaction, into a condition of playing, entering a different space.

We will work out a story (of Mullah Nasruddin) by tel-ling, improvising, looking from different perspectives, creating our own references, by alienating, discovering the bizarre, the depth and the immediate and by con-centrating our impressions into a short performance.
