RESPONSIBLE FOR

JOB PURPOSEThe TLC Development Officer will be responsible for supporting individuals and community groups in implementing schemes and initiatives to prevent and reduce loneliness in their localities. Work will be carried out according to the TLC work plan, originating from the North Yorkshire-wide, all-ages strategy for tackling loneliness developed as part of a multi-partner project funded by the National Lottery Community Fund, North Yorkshire County Council and Defra. The emphasis of the work with local communities will be on a strengths-based approach to reducing and preventing loneliness, which builds on the strengths of individuals, their families and their community – supporting people to feel better connected.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

1. To work with community groups and their representatives across North Yorkshire to promote and deliver local services that will address loneliness. This will entail developing a delivery plan, working on the ground with the community and tracking outputs and outcomes as detailed in the work plan.

2. To support groups to apply for funding from the North Yorkshire County Council Stronger Communities Team and other funds where appropriate.

3. To develop asset maps for localities to support understanding of the strengths and opportunities for specific communities and to inform the wider North Yorkshire community asset profile.

4. To empower individuals to come together with others from their community or area of interest to encourage connected action and enable them to address issues of importance to them.

5. To work in the community to recruit volunteers and find ways to listen to residents to identify their strengths and interests. To use the contacts and knowledge to link people together and encourage new activities or events.

6. To provide networking, practical guidance, training and moral support to the community groups and their volunteers.

7. To host events and conversations to get people thinking, talking and connecting – where people can share thoughts and ideas. To follow through on any actions agreed for the community group to ensure community trust is continuously built.

8. To support community groups in local marketing activities for their projects so as many local residents as possible engage with the work and ensure that activity is promoted through appropriate existing channels, including Community First Yorkshire’s social media networks and North Yorkshire Connect.

9. To provide information and advice on the project, via a variety of means including presentations, events, forums and meetings, maintaining project databases and key documents, creating copy and working with the Marketing and Communications Team on press releases and other awareness campaigns.

10. To write up regular case studies for the project ensuring the correct photo and publication permissions are obtained.

11. To work with the local community to showcase their journey and celebrate their success through a variety of methods such as social media, project blog, marketing and celebration events.

12. To provide regular updates to the Project Manager to allow effective and thorough reports to the funder(s).

13. To manage sustainability and legacy planning over the lifetime of the project in close liaison with key project stakeholders, including a steering group of organisations and agencies active in various sectors across North Yorkshire, and Community First Yorkshire Project Managers.

14. To perform and ensure the discharge of administrative duties relevant to the post, including but not limited to: regular reporting, referral processes and systems, database management and efficient audit trails, risk logging and shared learning/good practice, procurement and purchasing

and adhering to data protection laws.

15. To understand all processes and procedures in relation to the project and to Community First Yorkshire in general.

16. To be aware of and implement health and safety responsibilities as an employee and where appropriate any additional specialist or managerial health and safety responsibilities as defined in the Health and Safety policy and procedure. This will include site risk assessments for project events.

17. To maintain a good level of understanding and information on related Community First Yorkshire products and services and to work closely with colleagues across the organisation.

18. To be aware of and implement Community First Yorkshire safeguarding responsibilities and duties as they relate to the project.

19. To embrace and embody Community First Yorkshire’s values in how the role is delivered, in particular collaborative and generous working behaviours.

21. To undertake other duties which may, from time to time, be necessary to further the work of Community First Yorkshire.

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

Educated to A Level standard or equivalent.

Desirable

A qualification in community development, social care or similar or experience of delivering Asset Based Community Development projects.

1. Experience of working with community groups, ideally on community engagement/development projects.
