it’s our great
party
To say Yorkshire is eventful doesn’t even come close. Exciting, unique, innovative, welcoming, spectacular. Now that’s more like it.
From festivals for foodies and weekends for music lovers, to celebrating the arts and the weird and wonderful, it’s impossible to pigeon hole our festival and events calendar.
That’s why we’re celebrating with Yorkshire’s Great Party throughout 2011 and 2012. Whatever you’re into. Whatever you fancy doing. There will be a festival for you. Everyone’s welcome in Yorkshire.

With such a diverse and thriving arts scene in Yorkshire, it’s no surprise that we’re blessed with fantastic art events, festivals and celebrations all year around. From literature to laugh-a-minute comedy festivals, city centre extravaganzas to stages in the middle of the countryside, everyone’s different.
We have our fair share of arts festivals where you can just sit back and marvel at the creative talent. But being a hands on kind of place, there’s always plenty of opportunities to get involved, get close to the artists and often have a go yourself. So if you’ve got a creative side, or fancy discovering one, there’s always something in Yorkshire to inspire you.

inches away from the adrenaline-fueled action or enjoying the contest from the civility of the Champagne tent, there’s always more than one way to enjoy your sport in Yorkshire.
With a natural abundance of the most rugged and challenging terrain right here in our county, it’s no surprise outdoor sporting events are big attractions. And not just for spectating. Taking part is often on the cards too, so remember to bring your kit. Yorkshire’s love of horses is also something we’re famous for. So if it’s a day at the races, you’ll be spoilt for choice. Four-legged, two- legged or two wheeled. Whatever sport you’re into, you’re in for an exhilarating time.
the stunning location of Bramham Park has hosted this prestigious three day event since 1974, and the magnificent house provides the backdrop to the competition. One of UK’s most famous equestrian events, the cross country course, set in glorious
and historic parkland, attracts the world’s best event riders. Alongside the main event, this year there’ll be various show jumping and event classes, children’s play area, falconry displays, dog agility, and over 120 shops.

Stunning scenery, fantastic cities, rich heritage and great people. It goes without saying that there’s nowhere quite like Yorkshire. And you’ll find all this wonderful uniqueness in the wide variety of events held in the county each year.
There are huge fancy dress street parties for those who want to live it up. Fast and furious dragon boat racing, fun runs and even coal sack races for the more sporty. Science festivals, animation events and whole weekends dedicated to all things liquorice. Even Christmas has a unique touch here. So if you’re planning to visit one of our unique events, expect the unexpected and you definitely won’t be disappointed.
Organised by the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, ‘Railway in Wartime’ is one of thebest nostalgic events in Britain, attracting over 20,000 visitors each year. Along the 18 miles of fully restored railway you can experience the WWII home front, a mass evacuation of school children and even German-occupied French territory at Levisham Station, (Sorry Le Visham). So turn back the clock and take the train to 1943.
