Objects seem to be larger when they are closer and smaller when they are farther away. We showed distance by changing the sizes of snowflakes. Second Grade: Students created winter landscapes by drawing and painng trees with shadows. We even creat- ed fun snowmen looking up at a snowstorm. Weve really been enjoying the winter season to inspire our artwork. First Grade: Students are learning different ways to cre- ate penguins. We learned about drawing from the side called profile view. Kindergarten: Students have been recognizing shapes and using them to create winter objects. We created some cute penguins and some snowmen faces. What shapes can you find in other art projects? A FAMOUS ARTIST AT A GLANCE JACKSON POLLOCK (January 1912 – August 1956) was an American painter and a major figure in the abstract expressionist movement. He was well known for his unique style of drip painng, or splaer painng. Pollock's technique of pouring and dripping paint is thought to be one of the origins of the term acon painng. His canvases were huge and would take up the enre floor. Paint would be thrown, dripped, and splaered across the canvases . He literally was standing in or above his painngs to create them. Third Grade: Students have been experimenting with dis-tance. Objects seem to be larger when they are closer and smaller when they are farther away. We showed distance by changing the sizes of snowflakes.
