_____________________________________________How do we learn about the world around us? We use our SENSES.
2
Our SENSES collect information about how things look, taste and feel. We each have 5 SENSES that help us learn about our surroundings.
Those SENSES are TOUCH, TASTE, SMELLING, HEARING, AND SIGHT.
Our senses work by collecting information. Our bodies then send this information to our brains. Our brains then make a decision if something is good or bad.
This is how we know if something tastes good, if something smells bad, and how we know if something is too hot to touch.
READING PRACTICE

Every person has five senses, but why do we have our senses? What are our senses for? We each have senses to help us stay safe.
Our sense of taste is supposed to protect us from eating things that could make us sick, like old milk or rotten fruit.
Our sense of smell works the same way. Things like old milk or rotten fruit give off a bad smell, so our sense of smell warns us to stay away from things that could make us sick.
Our sense of touch protects us from touching something that could hurt us, like something that is sharp or hot.
Our sense of sight gives us a lot of information about our surroundings, including things that are in our way and might hurt us.
Our sense of hearing gives us information about things that we cannot see. For example, we could hear a car coming that might be behind us, so we would know not to cross a street.
