Yoga For Diabetes
Yoga poses or asanas, as they are called, have an impact on the internal organs of the body; most prominent among them being the pancreas, liver, kidneys and some glands like adrenal and thyroid glands. Many asanaswork on the stomach region and help activate the organs in there, with special emphasis on pancreas, thereby strengthening and improving their function. Since pancreas is responsible for secreting insulin, these asanas directly help control diabetes.
Suryanamaskar
Suryanamaskar comprises of 12 poses of yoga, which are done in a systematic pattern along with maintaining a rhythm of breathing. Suryanamaskarworks on the entire spinal cord which comprises the endocrine system‐including the glands like adrenal, thyroid, pituitary and the pancreas. Thus, this is very beneficial in controlling diabetes and promoting overall wellbeing.
Bhujanga Asana
Also called the Cobra pose, this asana promotes flexibility of the spinal cord as it gently bends the spine backwards.
Utthan Pada Asana
This asana uses all the muscle of the abdomen, thus improving the condition of the pancreas, digestive system and also strengthening the spine and reducing fat around the stomach region. It also relieves gastric disorders.
Mayurasana
Also called as the peacock pose, thisasana strengthens the internal organs like the liver, pancreas and kidney. It also helps to cure stomach disorders, which improves digestion.
Some of the other asanas that can be beneficial for diabetics are Pawanmuktasana, Salabhasana and Nadi Shodhana Pranayama.
