Our Ys offer traditional aerobics, yoga, pilates, cycle and many other group exercise classes, including ZuMBA® and BODYPuMP™, all taught in a fun, welcoming environment. in addition to the group exercise classes, our trained wellness staff can help design a fitness program that meets your individual needs.

quALiTY CHiLD CAREWe provide quality child care in our Child Watch while you’re working out or participating in other Y activities for up to two hours per day. if you’re looking for longer afterschool care, we offer that too. Check out the Y’s Magic Place for elementary afterschool care and Y Pass for afterschool care for Andrew Lewis middle schoolers.

SWiMMinG AnD WATER ACTiviTiESAll of our facilities have year-round indoor pools that offer recreational swim and water aerobic activities. Certified lifeguards staff our pools, and our swim lessons are taught by trained instructors.

LEADERS’ CLuB Ages 13 - 18The YMCA Leaders’ Club provides high schoolers with knowledge, training, communication skills and valuable teambuilding experience through volunteering in YMCA programs and in the community. The Leaders’ Club program will train teens in physical education and service learning to better serve our community and the YMCA as they encourage each other to make a positive impact for present and future generations.

A leader must possess strong character, a positive attitude, meet basic physical requirements and maintain a 3.0 GPA throughout the school year. Leaders’ Club is a school-year-long commitment that meets weekly. interested candidates may apply to the club starting in August. Program fees are payable upon acceptance into the program. POLLIWOG & GUPPY

POLLiWOG: This class is for the non-swimmer or beginner swimmer. Children will learn water safety, develop swim strokes and adjust to the water.

GuPPY: For beginning swimmers who can submerge head under water, front/back paddle 5 yards without flotation.

FLYING FISH & SHARK

FLYinG FiSH: For advanced swimmers who have completed the Fish level, which includes 50 yards of continuous freestyle and backstroke, elementary backstroke, breaststroke and sidestrokes.

SHARK: This class is for the swimmer who has advanced from Flying Fish or who can swim four lengths of front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, sidestroke and elementary backstroke and butterfly.

MINNOW & FISH

MinnOW: For advanced beginning swimmers who can front/back float 1 minute, tread water 20 seconds without flotation, front/back alternating and symmetrical paddle 15 yards without flotation.

FiSH: For advanced swimmers who can tread water 1 minute without flotation, freestyle/backstroke/breaststroke/elementary backstroke/sidestroke 25 yards with effective kicks and breathing.

youth: ages 6-12

Swimmers 13 and up can come learn the basics of swimming or refine current swimming skills. See pages 12 and 20 for details.

Guided by positive role models, children have a safe and structured place to continue learning and to play with friends. Most importantly, the YMCA Magic Place Program enables parents to feel confident that their child is being well cared for.

Working in partnership with with Roanoke City, Salem City and Botetourt County public schools, YMCA Magic Place offers supervised homework and tutoring, athletic activities, varied indoor games and projects.

When sChool’s out, the y is in!When school is closed for teacher workshop days, winter break, spring break and even snow days, we provide all-day care that is of no extra cost for participants.

finanCial assistanCeThrough the generosity of members and community partners, the YMCA offers assistance to anyone in need. no one is turned away because of their inability to pay the full rate. Ask for a financial assistance application when you register.

to registerDownload a registration form online or contact the Magic Place Office. A $25 non-refundable registration fee, the first week’s tuition and a $50 supply fee reserve a place for your child in the program. Past participants are not required to pay the registration fee.
