SECTION 1INTRODUCTION

The purpose of this instruction is to describe the application, the installation and operation of printer to be used inconjunction with the MicroComputer Control Center.

The applicable printers are the Weigh-Tronix, Okidata, Seiko and Epson as listed in Section 2, Table 1.

PRINTER USES

Customer

• Data Logging – Instead of manually completing a dailyor hourly chiller log, the customer can use the printerto provide hard-copy records.

• History Print – A history of the last four cycling orsafety shutdowns can be printed.

• System Status – Can provide remote indication ofsystem status up to maximum cable run of 25 ft. or 50ft. depending on printer.

YORK Service

• Data Logging – Service technician can track the op-eration of the chiller over periods of time when not atthe job site.

• Shutdown Recording – Service technician can recordthe chiller operating parameters at the time of anycycling or safety shutdown. This can be accomplishedwhile the service technician is not at the job site.

PRINTER COMPARISONS

The MicroComputer Control Center software has beenwritten to accommodate those printers listed in Table 1.

The Weigh-Tronix printer is a compact, portable and cost-effective printer that is ideal for field service work. It printson 2.25" wide desktop calculator paper that can be pur-chased at most stationery stores. An example of theprintout is given in Figs. 9, 10, 11 and 12. In contrast, theremaining printers in Table 1 are full-page printers moresuitable for permanent installations.

The SEIKO printer is compact, portable and its total costis only $157.00. The SEIKO printer is perfect for fieldservice work. It prints out a large 3.50" wide, easy to readstrip chart. An example of the actual size printout is shownin Fig. 12.

The printers listed in Table 1 are recommended for usewith the MicroComputer Control Center. However, it doesnot represent a complete list of printers that are compat-ible with the MicroComputer Control Center. Proceed withcaution and use the following guidelines if an unlistedprinter is selected:

The Weigh-Tronix printer uses desk top calculator paper 2.25" wide, the Seiko uses 3.50" wide paper, and the other two printersuse standard 8-1/2" wide print-out paper.

1. All must be capable of 1200 baud serial communica-tions rate with 8 bit data, 1 stop bit, no parity, withhandshake (asserted low when busy).

2. Primary differences involve control codes for specialformatting. For example, Weigh-Tronix printers requirea special control code to select 40 column printout,which we require for readability. This same code isinterpreted by the Okidata as an instruction to printwide characters. In order to print the entire messagedump onto one page, the 8 line/inch option must beselected (for Okidata printers). The code to performthis is interpreted by the Weigh-Tronix as the number8, and is printed as such. Often a printer will simplyignore a code it cannot interpret.

3. Software cannot be included to allow selection of allprinters, through front panel keys. However, a few ofthe most popular printer models have been accommo-dated.

4. Though control codes may differ in many printers, anyprinter meeting the serial communications require-ments may return a meaningful hard copy, even if the

3. Verify that Micro Board program jumper P58 is in theRS-232 position. If not, move to RS-232 position.

control codes don’t match that printer. However, un-usual formatting can be expected, such as spacingand character size variations.

5. Not all printers use the same lines for handshaking.As a consequence, care should be taken when con-necting the cable to the printer end of the link so thatproper handshaking occurs. The printer manual shouldbe consulted for this information.

6. The following pin arrangement at TB8 in the Micro-Computer Control Center must be matched to thosepins on the printer which will produce the desired op-eration. The pin numbers at the printer end may varywith the printer chosen. All lines are RS-232C com-patible.

The remainder of the TB8 terminals are not used for printerapplications.

4. Verify that Micro Board program jumper J56 is in theMODEM position. If not, move to MODEM position.

5. If printers are being installed on several chillers at onejob site, it is advantageous to assign an identificationnumber to each chiller. Refer to Fig. 1 and locate S1on the Micro Board. Using a small screwdriver, turnswitch S1 to desired number. The selected numberwill be printed at the top of each printout.

Regardless of which printer is used, the following chilleroperating data is printed (Refer to Fig. 6).

PRINTED DATA

MODES OF OPERATION

• Operator Initiated Print – An operator can locallycommand the Control Panel to initiate a print (Fig. 6).The operator initiated print will occur only if the chillerCOMPRESSOR switch is in the RUN position. If thechiller is running, the data will be that which is valid atthe instant the print is requested. If the chiller is notrunning, the day-time will be that which was valid whenthe chiller last ran. If the COMPRESSOR switch is inthe STOP-RESET position the printout is inhibited.

• Data Logging (Auto-Interval) Print – The controlpanel can be programmed to automatically print at anoperator specified interval (.1 - 25.5 hrs.) beginning atan operator specified time. For example, if the opera-tor programs a 24 hr. interval to start at 9:00 AM thecontrol panel would automatically initiate a print everyday at 9:00 AM. The automatic print will occur only ifthe chiller is running (Refer to Fig. 6).

• Shutdown Initiated Printed (See Note) – Anytimethe chiller is running and shuts down on a cycling orsafety shutdown, the Control Center will automaticallyinitiate a print (Fig. 7). The day-time and cause of shut-down are printed at the bottom of the printout. Thedata is that which was valid at the instant of shut-down.

If cycling or safety shutdown occurs and the operatorpresses the COMPRESSOR switch to the STOP-RE-SET position while the printer is printing, the printout willterminate. The operator can retrieve this data by press-ing the PRINT key prior to restarting the chiller.

If a cycling or safety shutdown occurs when the chiller isnot running and the COMPRESSOR switch is in the RUNposition, a printout in initiated. The day-time at the top ofthe printout is the time the shutdown occurred.

If the Micro Panel is configured for autorestart after power failure, a “shutdowninitiated print” will not occur when poweris restored following a power failure.

The day-time and cause of shutdown areprinted at the bottom of the printout. However, the dataprinted is that which was valid when the chiller last ranexcept for the parameter that caused the shutdown.

If the chiller COMPRESSOR switch is in the STOP-RESET position, the “shutdown initiated print” will beinhibited.

• History Print – A history of the last four cycling orsafety shutdowns is stored in memory. The last four“shutdown initiated print” data is stored. This data canbe retrieved by pressing the HISTORY PRINT key onthe keypad (Refer to Fig. 8). The HISTORY PRINT willoccur if the chiller is running or not running, regardlessof the position of the COMPRESSOR switch. Onlyvalid history data will be printed. If there were no cy-cling or safety shutdowns experienced by the chiller,

no history data will be printed. For example, if onlyone cycling or safety event has occurred, only onehistory log would be printed, etc.

KEYPAD OPERATION FOR PRINTER(Refer to Fig. 13)

PRINT Key – Press and release this key to initiate an“operator initiated print.” PRINT ENABLE is displayed.

DATA LOGGER Setpoints Key – This key is used toprogram the auto-print start time, auto-print interval andselect the applicable printer as follows:

1. Select PROGRAM mode at keypad. (Refer to Opera-tion Manual, Form 160.60-O1.)

2. Press DATA LOGGER Key.

3. The following is displayed:

terval (.1 - 25.5 hrs.). The interval counter will begindecrementing at the start time entered in Step 5. If anAC power failure occurs, the decremented interval re-sets to the original value and will begin decrementingat the programmed start time. Therefore, a power fail-ure can cause a loss of printouts until the next elapsedinterval from the programmed start time.

7. Press ENTER Key.

8. Return keypad to desired operating mode (local, ser-vice, remote).

The selected print (WTO, OKI, EP3), programmed starttime, auto-print interval and time remaining until the nextauto-print can be viewed in local, remote or service modeby pressing the DATA LOGGER Key. The following isdisplayed:

Weigh-Tronix has replaced the previous model 2600 printerwith a new model 1220 printer. This new model is thesame physical size, has the same appearance and pro-duces the same printout on 2.25" wide paper as the pre-vious model.

Instead of using switch settings to configure the printer,this new model requires using the ON / OFF rocker switchto select the appropriate value while stepping through
