Watercolor artist Ralph Avery graduated fromRochester Institute of Technology in 1928 and was a faculty member of the

$75department of Applied Art for 25 years. He often painted scenes from the local area - gray, foggy views of the downtown skyline, portraits of elegant old city homes, and abstractions of natural areas from the surrounding landscape. His most remembered work is a wonderful series of drawings depicting “The statue of Mercury;” (messenger of the god’s and the highlight of Rochester New York’s skyline) as seen through the artist’s eyes. In 1881, this statue was commissioned by William Kimball of Kimball Tobacco Factory. Very good. Light stain,moderate scuffing, and 1/2 inch closed tear to front of portfolio. A modernprintout of a contemporary advertisement contains additional information on Avery, including a note that he was for two years an associate with Louis Comfort TiffanyFoundation.

Photoplay paperback with section of black & white stills from the 1977 film directed by George A. Romero, famous for his Night of the Living Dead. Romero called Martin hisfavorite film. Tom Savini did the special effects - this was his first film with Romero, and he went on to work on Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, Creepshow, and Monkey Shines (along with numerous other high-profile horror films such as Friday the 13th. He laterdirected a remake of Romero’s Night of the Living Dead. Small sticker remnant on front wrapper, edges lightly rubbed, pages lightly toned.

31. Forty Etchings on Copper, Reproduced from the Most Noted Examples of Modern Art and Photographs of English Landscapes. Series I.The Osborne & Murphy Company, Art Publishers, Red Oak, S.D. Forty half-tone images photographically reproduced from original photographs, and copper plate etchings by various artists. In 1888, two enterprising young men, Edmond Osborne and Thomas D. Murphy, purchased awoodcut of the Montgomery County Courthouse that was underconstruction at the time. To offset the expense of the woodcut, they decided to sell advertising around the picture and add a calendar pad. Because of

A wide assortment of offerings, including whole lobster, Romanoff caviar, Lynhaven Oysters Rockefeller, etc., with nothing exceeding $4.50. There appear to be a number of variants of the 1948 menu, likely a function of them being printed daily. This example bears an etchedillustration on the front wrapper dated 1939 and labeled Washington Square New York City, with initials EPM, and printed illustrator signature below (E.P.Marquis?). Near fine. Faintly toned, folded slightly askew such that fore-edge corners do not line up, but this appears to be an error of the printer (or the folder, if this was done manually).

Murphy also continued as publisher of The Red Oak Express. Very good. Boards faintly soiled, front hinge just beginning to weaken, portion of front free endpaper removed, front flyleaf creased. All image pages excellent with no marks, foxing, stains, or toning.
