    The Armed Services YMCA is

    program for the fourth

    consecutive summer to SanDiego military kids. YES! youth

    trips, for children ages 7 to 12,

    include a day at YMCA Camp

    Surf and the San Diego Zoo.

    We are proud to offer for the

    third summer, a YES! teen tripfor kids ages 13 to 17 to Mission

    Bays Belmont Park. It will be a

    great chance for military teens

    to meet and connect over the

    summer!

    YES! staff are full time ArmedServices YMCA Youth andCommunity Outreach (YCO) staffmembers that want to host anawesome summer packed with

    fun, adventure, and exploration!

    Our staff is passionate aboutsupporting military youth andtake pleasure in maintaining astructured, educational programin an atmosphere of fun andexcitement.

    The ASYMCA takes seriously theimportance of child protection

    and safety. We have specific,tested policies and proceduresfor all staff that work withchildren.

    The following are some of ourproven safety practices:

    1. The ASYMCA has comprehensivepre-employment screening forstaff members and program

    volunteers, including interviews,reference and nation-widecriminal history checks.

    2. All staff members regularly workwith school aged youth ininformal educational settings andare certified in pediatric First Aidand CPR.

    Mission Bays Belmont Park

    Military teens explore Southern California and connect withother military teens through a day long excursion at SanDiegos home of the wooden rollercoaster known as theGiant Dipper, Belmont Park. Teens will enjoy unlimited rideson the Giant Dipper Roller Coaster, Octotron, Beach Blaster,Control Freak, Speedway Bumper Cars, Tilt-a-Whirl, TheLiberty Carousel, Vertical Plunge, Krazy Kars, CrazySubmarine, and Thunder Boats. There will be no access tothe beach and Wavehouse Attractions (Wave House, Plunge

    Pool, RUSH Laser Tag, RUSH Arcade, Midway Games, LazerMaze Challenge, Sky Climb, Sky Ropes Adventure). Getready for a fun day in the sun!

    San Diego Zoo: The Inside ScoopAugust 16th and August 30thAugust 16th and August 30thAugust 16th and August 30thAugust 16th and August 30th

    Kids 7-12 years:While visiting the World Famous San Diego Zoo, kids willhave an opportunity to get an insiders perspective of thepark. With a tram tour and a special behind the sceneslook at an animals habitat, theyll leave the San Diego Zoo

    with insider knowledge.

    Kids 7-12 years:Kids will have a blast learning fun new activities includingarchery, wall climbing, boogie boarding and surf lessons.Children will have a water training and safety course prior to

    water activities and will be closely supervised by both CampSurf lifeguards and ASYMCA staff when they are in thewater.

Children are required to wear closed toed shoesand socks daily and should arrive to YES! with sunscreenalready applied. Remember, YES! Is not a fashion show!

Allbelongings should be labeled with your childs namebefore sending to YES! outings. Please also be sure yourchild has sunscreen and a sweatshirt.

    YES! StaffLyndsay Calhoun: Program DirectorHer fourth summer atthe Armed ServicesYMCA, Lyndsay is a SanDiego native andgraduate of Universityof California, San Diegowith a degree in

    Sociology. Her passionfor working with children of all ages hasmade working at the ASYMCA anincredible experience. Lyndsay is ecstaticfor the fourth year of Camp Hero andpumped for the new improvements thisyear!

    Kristen Mihalko: Program LeaderKristen is sun-screened and ready to go forher first summer at the Armed ServicesYMCA. She is a military child who grew up

    in San Diego, Guam andJapan. She graduatedwith a degree in FamilyResources from theUniversity of Hawaii atManoa. Kristen hasworked with youth of allages since 2007 and is

    looking forward to using her creativity andfun personality to make this a fun andinspiring summer for military youth.

    Cathy Tann: Program SpecialistCathy could not be more excited aboutkicking off her third summer with the

    ASYMCA! Cathy is a Texas native with adegree in Interdisciplinary Studies and anElementary TeachingCredential from theUniversity of NorthTexas. She is pumpedto be using herbackground workingwith youth both inand out of theclassroom to make this the best summeryet!

    Donnabelle Buban: Program LeaderDonnabelle is thrilled for her secondsummer at the ASYMCA. Donnabelle is agraduate of El Camino College andCuyamaca College with degrees in ChildDevelopment. She holds a Child

    Development TeachersPermit from theCommission on TeacherCredentialing and islooking forward to usingher background workingwith young children to

    create a more meaningful summer this

    year!

    or San Diego based ship.Children must be between sevenand twelve years old by August1st to be eligible for Youth YES!and between thirteen andseventeen years by August 2ndfor Teen YES! There will be nonononoage exceptions. Priority will begiven first time YES! participants.

    Field TripTransportation

    YES! participants will travel byArmed Services YMCA buses.

    The following are some of ourtransportation safety practices:

    1. Each bus driver is an ArmedServices YMCA staff member whohas completed comprehensivepre-employment screeningincluding interviews, drug andalcohol testing, and referenceand nation-wide criminal historychecks.

    2. Each driver is required to performa pre-trip inspection for their busbefore transporting passengers.

    3. Each Armed Services YMCA bus isoutfitted with seat belts androutinely inspected by theCalifornia Highway Patrol.

    We do our best to maintain a reliableschedule of departure and arrival timesand accomplish all planned activities.Please do your part to help by arrivingon time to YES! and ready for the daysactivities. We appreciate yourunderstanding that trips are subject tochange as necessary for health or safetyof the participants and staff.

If within an hour the

    parents are not reachable, ChildProtective Services will be called.

Depositswill not be refunded for thosedismissed from YES! If you child isfor whatever reason not able toattend please contact the ArmedServices YMCA as soon as possible

    so that a waitlist child can beinvited.

Children whoattend the program are expectedto follow the behavior guidelinesbased on the four core values andto interact appropriately in agroup setting.

    Behavior Guidelines:1. We will carecarecarecare for ourselves and

    for those around us.2. HonestyHonestyHonestyHonesty will be the basis for

    all relationships andinteractions.

    3. People are responsibleresponsibleresponsibleresponsible fortheir actions.

    4. We respectrespectrespectrespect each other and theenvironment.

    Our staff is trained and is expectedto resolve behavior problems in a

    positive manner. In the eventproblems persist the child may besuspended or dismissed from theYES! program. Some acts mayresult in immediate suspension ordismissal including but not limitedto: fighting, intentionally harmingothers, theft, and possession ofweapons or drugs. Deposits willnot be refunded for thosedismissed from the program dueto a behavior problem.
