READ THIS FIRST . . .The thought of studying the Scriptures can be intimidating. It’s a big book. It’s also a controversial book. One could wonder if there is any hope of understanding it. But be encouraged; it is not as time consuming as one might think to master the Scripture’s core message. Many people watch more hours of TV in one week than it takes the average person to complete this course.

This course is based on the book, ALL THAT THE PROPHETS HAVE SPOKEN. It is quite different than many other overviews of the Word of God, so before you begin, here are a few pointers.

1. Learn one section at a time in the sequence it is written. This is not a course in which you can jump around from one lesson to another. It is important that you read each chapter in ALL THE PROPHETS sequentially and then answer the accompanying correspondence questions before you move on to the next chapter.

2. ALL THAT THE PROPHETS HAVE SPOKEN is written as a story. You will get far more out of the course if you don’t spread your reading time over too many days. Many can read the entire book and complete the CORRESPONDENCE COURSE questions in a handful of evenings. The sooner you finish the entire course, the more the story will stick together in your mind.

3. Learn for the sake of knowing for yourself. The point of this course is to gain an understanding of the main theme of the Scriptures. Whether you believe it or not is entirely up to you.

4. Make sure you complete the course. To make a final judgment about the Scripture’s primary message without knowing the full story is to risk drawing wrong conclusions.

5. In the early stages of the course, you may have an abundance of questions. Don’t get sidetracked. Write them down, but save your questions for the end to be discussed with your teacher or course corrector. Most people find that many of their questions are answered in the process of completing the overview.

6. Don’t be insulted if you find some questions too easy—it means you understand the material. Some of the questions can be a little tricky so read them carefully!

. . . continued

7. The content labeled OPTIONAL is for deeper digging. To complete these sections you will need a copy of the Scriptures that contains both the Old and New Testaments. Since the verses are taken from the translation called the NEW INTERNATIONAL VERSION® NIV®, we would suggest you consider obtaining a copy of that translation.

Now, open ALL THAT THE PROPHETS HAVE SPOKEN, read the Preface on page 1, and begin with Chapter One.

Enjoy your study!

According to the culture of that day, a leper had to shout "unclean" whenever anyone approached. It was thought that if a leper was downwind, then you could approach to within 6 feet (2m), but if the leper was upwind, then not even 130 feet (60m) was safe enough. The possibility of physical contact with a leper would not only have been repulsive, but unthinkable.

Yet the Scripture tells us that Jesus reached out his hand and deliberately touched a leper (Mark 1:40-45). That touch was not necessary. Jesus healed many a person from a distance. Think of what that touch meant to the watching crowd—to the leprous man. The event must have been electrifying! Not only was it culturally unacceptable, but according to the Law, if a man physically contacted a leper then he was ceremonially unclean. Not so with Jesus. Rather, there was the opposite effect. Jesus touched the man and the leper became clean. That touch was intentional. It was the touch of God.
