All students will begin GCSE and BTEC from September 2011.

Vocational and Diploma courses will start from September 2012

Year 8 Curriculum Evening

GCSE English Language and English Literature

English LanguageUnit 1 – 1 X 2hr exam on response to

reading and two writing tasksUnit 2 – 3 x Speaking and Listening tasksUnit 3 – a) Extended Reading on a literature

text b)2 X Creative writing tasks

c) Spoken Language taskExam = 40% Controlled Assessment = 60%

English Literature

Unit 1 – 1 x 1hr 30 minute exam on two literature texts

Unit 2 – 1 x 1hr 15 minute exam on poetry

Unit 3 – 1 task on Shakespeare and one other text

Exam = 75% Controlled Assessment = 25%

Controlled Assessment

Not like current GCSE where draft essays can be done, commented on and returned.

Now pupils will have a set time , usually 2 – 3 hours to complete the task in controlled conditions.

THIS MEANS – Total concentration in all lessonsFull attendance Taking detailed notes Being organised!

Year 9 Mathematics• Follow a Scheme of Learning in line with the National Curriculum

•Continual assessment promoting independent learning through focussed support and personalised targeting

•Links with real life embedded into the curriculum to develop functional skills

GCSE Maths - Sept 2011 • Follow Edexcel courses

• All sets follow the linear course

• Linear either at Higher (A*, A, B, C, D) or Foundation (C, D, E, F, G)

• All year 9 pupils achieving level 6 or above in Year 9 follow the Higher course

• Year 9 pupils achieving Level 5 or below in year 9 follow the Foundation course

• One set of exams in Summer 2013 (Year 11)

• Option of early entry in November 2013 (Year 11)

• No coursework

• GCSE Statistics or Additional Maths for pupils achieving A in November

Linear Higher Course• 2 terminal exams in Summer 2013

•1h 45 mins Non Calculator paper

•1h 45 mins Calculator paper

•Ongoing assessment and past papers throughout years 10 and 11 to monitor progress

Linear Foundation Course• One set of exams in Summer 2013 (Year 11)

• Option of early entry in November 2013 (Year 11)

•Option of taking Higher course to improve attainment if achieving a C in November

• No coursework

Linear Foundation Course• 2 terminal exams in Summer 2013
