Science Takeaway Menu Year 6 Summer 1
• How would we identify one
another if we were the same? • What if all animals of the same
species were identical in size? • What if we weren’t interested in
technology or science? • Would we be able to advance?
Mystery Task! Think of your own activity to represent our Science question.
Mary Anning was an English fossil collector and
palaeontologist who became known around the world for important finds she made in marine fossil beds in Dorset.
You could either write a biography of Mary Anning or retell the story of how she
found her first fossil.
This half term our Science question is ‘What if changes didn’t happen over time?’
The topic is ‘Evolution & Inheritance’
With this in mind, this homework takeaway menu has a number of activities that you can complete at home linked to our question. You could select a couple to complete over the half term or make a mini project out of the activities. Make sure you keep a record of any tasks you complete and send some photos of your work to your teachers on Seesaw. Good luck! Mrs Robertson, Miss Evans and Mrs Banks
Look at this picture of the finches. What’s the same and what’s different? Why might their beaks be different
shapes? How could it help them? You could research Charles Darwin and the studies he did on
the finches.
Some animals have adapted to their environment by using camouflage.
• Can you think of other animals,
which use camouflage to survive? • Can you think of other strategies
animals use to escape predators? • What would make some better at
surviving than others? Why not find out more about the peppered moth or other examples of animals in nature who have had to adapt to changes in their environments or to global warming?
Bonus: What is this zoomed in picture?
If you think you know, send a message to your teacher on Seesaw and they will tell you if you are correct…
