Kingswood Colomendy Centre
Set in 130 acres of beautiful Welsh hills, valleys and open countryside, Colomendy provides an amazing outdoor environment that both enriches the learning experience and allows young people to really benefit from time spent in the great outdoors.
Year Five / Six Residential

Risk Assessments Safety is a priority, so every Kingswood Centre and activity is risk assessed and our sites are independently inspected, checked and maintained by the British Activity Holiday Association (BAHA) and also by Local Authority Environmental Health Officers.
Staff that excel the skilled Instructor team play a large part in the success of the centres, supporting and encouraging young people to make personal achievements that, for many, will reach beyond their wildest dreams, sending their confidence soaring. All staff are vetted, inducted and trained to the highest levels and have achieved National Governing Body qualifications (where available) for the activities that they teach.
School First Aiders : Mrs Pooke & Miss Cain
Monday 9th November
• Children must arrive in school by:9:30am – enter via the Main entrance into the Main hall.
• Medication should be handed to Mrs Pooke and Miss Cain
• Max £15 Pocket Money should be handed to (Y6) Mr Morris & (Y5) Mr Heery.
• We are due to leave at 10:30am.• Travel Sickness Medication
needs to be taken for a 10:30am departure.
Monday 9th November 2015
• We are due to arrive at Colomendy by 12noon.
• Children need to travel in clothes that they can take part in adventurous activities in – strong shoes and waterproofs. They also need a Packed lunch and a drink of water.
A day full of fun
A typical day at Kingswood runs as follows:
• Breakfast is served between 7.30am and 9am
• First activities start around 9.30am• 10 minute refreshment break • Lunch time between - 12pm and 2.00pm• A full afternoon of activities• 10 minute refreshment break • Evening meal time - between 5pm and 7pm • Evening entertainment from 7.45pm • Lights out by 10pm• 6 activity sessions per full day plus one final
evening session.
Fully qualified Kingswood activity instructors lead all activities• Students are encouraged and praised during activities but are NEVER forced to take part if they are not comfortable doing so.
A day full of fun
Medication• Copies of Medical forms kept in
school by Mrs Davidson• All medication to be clearly
marked and handed to Mrs Pooke & Miss Cain on arrival at school along with ‘administration of medicines’ form.
• Kingswood staff will be fully informed about our groups medical requirements.
Medication: Inhalers• Asthmatic children are expected to be
responsible for their own (blue) inhalers.
• Mrs Pooke and Miss Cain will keep hold of spare blue inhalers and ‘brown’ inhalers.
Each Child needs a ‘DAY BAG’
Small rucsack or drawstring bag (CTK Bag)
For the coach & Walk•Water Bottle•Hat / Gloves•Magazine / Book•Boiled sweets/Mints•Packed Lunch
KIT LIST• 1 Swimming towel, 1 Bath towel• Toiletries bag containing: toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, hairbrush
etc.• Night clothes, Socks and underwear• 4 T-shirts, shirts / blouses (at least 1 with long-sleeves), • Sweatshirt (2 in winter)• 1 Thick sweater (2 in winter) + 1 light sweater• 3 Pairs of trousers and/or jeans and/or tracksuit bottoms• Clothes for the Twilight Zone (evenings)• Waterproof jacket (and trousers if you have them) WITH A HOOD!• Sturdy shoes or wellingtons, 2 Pairs of trainers (one old pair)• Large plastic bag for dirty clothes• Gloves, hat, scarf • Water Bottle
PLEASE PUT YOUR CHILD’S NAME IN ALL CLOTHES – IT IS HELPFUL TO PUT ‘CTK’ on them too!
YOUR CHILD MUST BE ABLE TO CARRYTHEIR OWN BAG
Food glorious food!It’s important for students to maintain high energy levels throughout thier stay, so 3 freshly-prepared, healthy buffet style meals are served daily in the communal dining area.
• All meals are nutritionally balanced and meet the latest Government standards on childrens’ meals • A varied choice is always offered, with both hot and cold meals, a salad bar, at least one vegetarian option and yes,
sometimes even chips! • Plenty of juice and water is available at all times. • Most dietary requirements can be catered for – we will explain dietary requirements to Colomendy staff before we go.
What should my child not bring to Kingswood?
• Mobile phones, • Expensive cameras, • Electronic games, ipods or mp3
players, expensive or much-cherished jewellery, expensive or favourite clothing or shoes.
• White Clothes!• A Torch
When is bedtime• Children are supervised by
Kingswood staff until about 9pm, when they enjoy an evening cocoa before returning to their dorms. Kingswood suggest a lights-out policy of 10pm!
Friday 13th November 2015
• We are due to leave Colomendy between 1:30 and 2:00pm.
• We should arrive back at school for 3pm. A text will be sent with a definite time on the day.
• Travel Sickness Medication needs to be provided for the return journey - a medication form will need to be filled in for this.
Do not pack in you main bag….
• Electronics, inc: Mobile phones, CD/ MP3/IPOD, DSi’s etc, Jewellery• Additional money• Medication – This must be handed to Mrs Pooke &
Miss Cain with the ‘administering medicines form’ • Packed lunch• Waterproof coat• Walking shoes .... These should be on your feet!
• MONEY Children are allowed a maximum of £15 to spend in the Tuck Shop. Money should be handed in to Mr Morris & Mr Heery in an envelope when you arrive at school.
And finally…
• Please read the booklet carefully.• Ensure that your child has all the
necessary equipment. WATERPROOF COATS!!
• Don’t pack goodies! They will be confiscated and disposed of.
