GU Students at ‘Aaj Tak’

Students of the School of Media and

Communications Studies participated in

the special debate show of Aaj Tak -

'Sadda Haq'.

Deputy Editor Anjana Om Kashyap an-

chored an engaging panel discussion on

the issue of denial of women rights in

the Shani Shingnapur temple row.

Around 1000 women, led by women ac-

tivist Trupti Desai of the Bhumata Ran-

granai Brigade, tried to enter the Shani

Shingnapur Temple in Pune , on the oc-

casion of Republic Day. But were denied

permission to worship there.

The panel discussion was an attempt to

question the gender bias existing in soci-

ety on women rights. Students partici-

pated actively in questioning the panel-

ists about the restrictions imposed on

women freedom.

The idea was to highlight that the society

must break the centuries-old traditions

to allow women equal rights as men liv-

ing in Indian society. Anjana Om Kashyap

personally interacted with the Galgotias

students studying TV journalism and pro-

duction, quickly pointing out to them the

significance of asking the right kind of

questions in a television debate show.

Snapshots of Great Debate by UK High Commission

Students from the School of Media and Communications studies participated in the 'Great Debate' organized by the

British High Commission, New Delhi. BA JMC students Gauri, Saloni, Divya and Manjeet participated in this all India

Inter-university debating competition held at the Sri Venkateshwara College, Delhi University in New Delhi. The event

began with an inaugural address by the Hannah Cockburn, Head, Political & Bilateral Affairs, British High Commission.

Students were put to rigorous preliminary rounds of debates in different pools, with topics ranging from global energy

security to compulsory voting rights. GREAT Debate has a unique approach that provides an informal but highly rigor-

ous debate experience for all involved. It should be stressed that the British High Commission did not issue judges with

narrow criteria for arriving at a decision, but instead asked them to simply decide which side of the debate, for or

against, made the most convincing argument.
