The Best Holiday... Ever!

Last summer, my family and I went to Blackpool for our holidays. I knew it was going to be the best holiday, ever, because we were visiting my cousins who live there. I remember leaping frantically, straight out of bed because I was so excited. I had 'butterflies in my tummy' the whole time we were getting ready to begin our long journey.

The car journey was fun. We played games like 'I spy', and sang our favourite songs. We stopped at a pub for lunch and it had a huge, bouncy castle in the play area.

When we arrived at our cousins house, I felt like I would burst with excitement because it had been one whole year since I had seen them. I was so thrilled to be  with them, at last.

When we got into the house ...

Waking up ‐    jumped out of bed

Getting ready ‐  'butterflies in tummy'

Travelling ‐  playing games, singing songs, bouncy castle

Example:

first person

past tense

expanded noun phrase

interesting adjective

L.I. I can edit to improve my writing.

Close your eyes and think about the experience you wrote your recount about. Think about the different things that happened, the people that were there and how you felt.

Read through your recount to yourself. Then think about the following:

Did you miss anything out? Did you include your feelings?

1.

2.

3.Ask a sibling or an adult to read your recount aloud to you.

How did it sound? Could you hear where there might be missing punctuation? Did you need to use conjunctions to add more detail to some sentences? Could you have used more exciting vocabulary?
