Level Typical entry requirements (GCSE)

3 Four GCSEs at grade C or 4 including English & Maths

2 Four GCSEs at grade D or 3 including English & Maths

1 Four GCSEs at grade E or 2 including English & Maths

English and Maths: Young people under the age of 18 must have achieved or be working towards passes (C or 4 grade) in English and Maths. Therefore; will be required to continue with these as part of a study/training programme if not yet achieved.

What are apprenticeships?Main components

- Gaining qualifications in the work place

- A real job with training

- Usually 1 day a week with training provider

- Anyone over 16 years old

- Take 1-5 years (depending on level/sector)

What does it involve?• A trainee position whilst working towards a

vocational qualification

• Assessment is competency based

• Numeracy and literacy study if required (many require C/4 grade in GCSE English/Maths)

• Paid salary: currently min. £3.50 per hour

– Average wage is £170 a week

• Employment a minimum of 30 hours a week

• Contract of employment, holiday, sick pay
