Year 11 Art

In Year 10 students will have completed projects for their GCSE coursework. This coursework makes up 60% of a student’s final grade. There are 4 assessment objects that must be fulfilled by students. Each Assessment Object covers crucial skills, techniques and knowledge and each is worth a maximum of 24 marks (96 marks in total). All projects in Year 10 are internally set (set by the art department).

In Year 11 September to December: Students continue with coursework carried through from Year 10. January: Exam questions issued by the exam board. Students to select a question of their choice on the exam paper. Exam preparation until end of April. April/May: GCSE exam. (10 hours)

Year 11 Food Technology

In Year 10 students began the GCSE major coursework project. This year students will be continuing with this until February, then be preparing for the written exam by revising theoretical knowledge. We will also be cooking ideas which would be suitable for the design question after 1 March when the pre-release information is available.

Section 3 [Making 32 marks] Health and safety in action. Students continue with the testing of ideas; project work is used for personal learning and development. The teacher gives insight regarding the pace and progress of the manufacture of the final students’ project outcome. Students are asked to state specific learning outcomes for lessons as they proceed. Teacher explains the select/reject process for students to begin planning for the final product. Students produce a plan of developments (6 in total) Begin development work. Each development needs to be fully evaluated. Continue with practicals and controlled assessment evaluations. Students will continue with development of final product. Various trials and related processes will be undertaken; also

evaluation of each one using sensory profiles and client feedback. The production of the manufacturing specification will be finalised. Students produce the final product evaluation, record of making with QC and H&S highlighted. Photographs are included. Reference is made to the original specification and the product is reviewed against it. Third party client feedback is obtained and presented. An improvement is suggested. Outcomes are photographed. In Year 11 students will be completing the controlled assessment piece and will make a high quality model. Students will be also be developing their theoretical knowledge and design skills in preparation for the theory exam paper.

Start taking photographs of the stages of making and write notes to say what has been done at each stage, consider if sticking to the plan? Was there a need to alter it? Finish making perfume/aftershave bottle in the workshop. The lathe could be used to shape a metal atomiser, hand tools could be used to make a wooden bottle. Write a production plan that says exactly how the model was made, include health and safety points and photographic evidence. Start to make the card outer packaging. Use Techsoft 2D Design to draw the net for the package.

In Year 10 students will have been completing their controlled assessment. In Year 11 students will finish this coursework and complete some focused projects to aid them with the theoretical aspect of the course in preparation for the exam at the end of Year 11.

In Year 10 students produced sections one and two of the GCSE major coursework project. This year students will be manufacturing the practical outcome. Students will be developing their theoretical knowledge and design skills in preparation for the summative design and theory exam paper.

Revision activities Students will begin a range of activities to help them revise the four topics they have covered as part of the short course: Matters of life and death; Community Cohesion; Marriage and the family; Believing in God. These activities will also cover exam technique and exam question practise.

Year 11 RE full course In Year 10 you will have learnt about a range of topics including ‘crime and punishment’ and ‘the environment and medical issues’

Complete the unit ‘The environment and medical issues’.

Begin ‘Religion, Peace and conflict’ unit. You will be introduced to the key ideas about what we mean by conflict and develop an understanding of war is and the implications for war. You will study what a just war is and why Christians and Muslims believe it is right to go to war. You will also consider why some religious believers do not agree with war and violence.

The second part of the unit you will continue to look at conflict but will focus on other aspects such as bullying and conflict with in families. You will also look at some of the beliefs about forgiveness and reconciliation. During this topic you will also develop your skills in answering exam questions.
