Principals Report 6th February

A warm welcome to the twenty-one new students who started school at Yea PS last week. This includes sixteen

Preps who have settled in to the routine of school life. Many students attended our school last year during the

transition program and this supports them once school starts. If parents have any concerns regarding their child,

please contact their teacher or myself. We need to work together as a team to ensure all the students at Yea PS

are happy and learning to the best of their ability.

Grade 2-6 Swimming

Sal is currently organising groups for swimming lessons that support students from Grades 2 to 6. Students in

Grades prep and one participate in a swimming program in Term 4. The teachers who take lessons are Austswim

trained. A note has been sent home for parents to complete so that their child can participate. There are six ses-

sions spanning three weeks and some students will compete in the Cluster Swimming Sports at the Yea Pool on

the 12th of February. Deb Male has asked all students in grades 2-6 for expressions of interest if they want to com-

pete in the Cluster Sports. She will be running trials on Thursday 7th February.

Pool Party

The first family get together is the Pool Party on the 15th February at the Yea Pool from 6 -8pm. Mr Fisher is or-

ganising a sausage sizzle so families can purchase dinner! Unfortunately, there is no BBQ at the pool. If you can

lend us a BBQ for the night, please let me know. I have a parent who can collect it and return after the party is

finished. It is always a fun night for families and staff, join us for swimming and games. We require a donation up-

on entry to pay for the lifeguards.

School Council

Being a School Councillor is a great way to learn about how the school functions and to have the opportunity to

have input into discussions that shape how the school runs. Nomination forms are available at the office until the

11th February. The obligation is to attend two meetings per term at 6pm on a Monday, meetings usually run for

approximately two hours. Please consider joining School Council, your input would be valued.

Hot Jam Music

On Tuesday 5th February, music teachers from Hot Jam Music gave a short presentation to each grade regarding

drum and guitar lessons that students can enjoy during school on Mondays. It is an additional cost to families;

those that participated last term had a great time. If there is enough interest shown by students at Yea PS they are

also able to run dance and singing lessons.

Standing Desks

We have purchased some standing desks, which are working well in all classrooms. Thank you to Kana, Chris,

Amanda, Nicole, Steve, Toby and Jim for putting them together. Also Troy and Kelly constructed some benches for

Grade 5/6 F.

Yea Races

During the holidays, Yea PS and Yea Football/Netball Club catered for the BBQ at the Yea Races. Thank you to the

following parents who gave up their time to support the school Cindy, Sam, Tania, Deb, Liz and Darren.

Balancing Love &

Discipline

A parenting program

It is very common these days for fathers to be taking

a much more active role in family life. Mothers are

also finding that there are more demands on their

time from a financial point of view. Fathers who find

themselves more involved in the parenting part of

family life may also find themselves wishing for more

options for dealing with the day to day issues that

arise in the home.

This course is suitable for all parents who would like

to meet with others to explore ways to increase their

options in dealing with the various issues that parents

experience while supporting and nurturing their

partners and children of all ages.

Some of the topics that have been helpful in previous

groups include:

Communication

Teaching life skills

Issues of discipline

What is normal for kids?

Confronting unacceptable behaviour

How to help your child when they are anxious,

angry or upset

“Discovering that others are experiencing problems almost identical to your

own somehow seems to lighten your load.”

“I can use this with my husband as well as my children.”

“Helpful, done it twice and taken away different strategies each time”

School Fees are due on the 22nd March

All students have now received their Back to School packs, with Laptops and headphones being rolled

out as we speak. School fees pay for these essential education items and the school relies on your

prompt payment. Please contact me if you are not going to be able to pay by the due date to discuss

alternate arrangements and allow for forward planning. Many thanks to those families that have al-

ready paid and those that have contacted me. We will always try and work with you to ease any fi-

nancial stress you may be experiencing

Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund (CSEF)

Families that are eligible for this grant of $125 per child (Concession Card holders) need to complete

this form and return to the office as soon as possible. DET/Centrelink assesses each application on

merit and if successful the funds are paid to the school, being allocated against the child’s camp fees.

Please see me with queries relating to eligibility and to obtain an application form.

A reminder to all Grade 5/6 Parents: Camp Deposit is now Due

The cost for Urban Camp is $400 per student. A deposit of $40 and Permission/Medical forms are

now due. The remainder must be paid by 18th Feb unless prior arrangements have been made.

Please note, families that have applied for CSEF need to factor this deduction into the cost however if

your CSEF application is unsuccessful you will still be liable for this amount. In addition, we are now

collecting your child’s $10 Lunch Money. Please hand this into the office in a sealed envelope clearly

marked with your child’s name and class. As with all money collections a receipt will be issued as

proof of payment.

Come in and have a chat if you need to set up a payment plan.

Returning Forms and Making Payments

All forms and payments must be handed into the office, NOT taken down to the classrooms. To pre-

vent forms being lost or misplaced we would appreciate if you handed in all notes to the office. Pay-

ment must also be processed through the Office where a receipt will always be issued. Do not send

money with your child to the classroom as we cannot be responsible for any lost or misplaced money.

We have EFTPOS facilities and accept cash and cheques.

Glad to see all the friendly familiar faces back and some new ones too. Have a great term!

For supporting and helping a new Prep student

Parents and Friends raise money

each year for a variety of resources

to enhance our teaching and learning

programs. The students and staff

greatly appreciate all the hard work

the school community have put into

fund raising last year and we espe-

cially thank the coordinators for their

enthusiasm and organisational

skills.

Everyone can contribute: parents,

grandparents, aunties, uncles, and

family friends. This year we are

hoping each class can nominate a

volunteer coordinator for each term

to help with fundraising activities. To

express your interest please contact

the office by Wednesday 13th Feb.

The first fundraising ac-

tivity for the year is the

Pool Party on 15th Febru-

ary.

We URGENTLY need a volunteer to run the Tuesday

morning Uniform Shop slot. Please contact the office

if you can help.
