    Introduction

Yarn is an assemblage of fibres twisted together.

Staple fibres make spun yarn and filament fibre make filament yarn(mono-filament & multifilament).

Yarn making is done by a process known as spinning.

    Mechanical Process

    i) Opening & Cleaning (Blow room)

    ii) Carding

    iii) Drawing

    iv) Combing

    v) Roving

vi) Spinning Ring frame; Rotor; Air jet; DREF etc

    Chemical Process

    I. Melt spinning Polymer melt > Pump > Spinneret > Cooling >Drawing > Twisting

II. Wet spinning Polymer solution > Spinning Bath (Regeneration) >Drawing > After treatment

III. Dry spinning - Polymer solution > Spinneret > Cooling (SolventEvaporation) > Drawing > After treatment.

    Yarn Properties

  • 1. Count

    2. Twist

    3. Strength

    4. Evenness

    5. Yarn Faults

    Types of yarn

    I. Simple yarn

    a. Single yarn

    b. Ply yarn

    c. Cord yarn

    II. Complex/Novelty/Fancy yarn

    a. Slub yarn

    b. Gimp yarn

    c. Boucle yarn

    d. Loop yarn

    e. Snarl yarn

    f. Knop yarn

    g. Chenille yarn

    III. Textured yarn

    a. High stretch yarn

    b. Modified stretch yarn

    c. Bulk yarn

  • Blended yarn At the time of spinning of yarn two types of fibres aremixed, drawn and twisted together to form blended yarn.

Thread Actually a thread and yarn are similar but not the same. Ayarn is processed further to make a thread. It is a ply yarn, finer, moreeven and stronger.
