The crowd were entertained by cover band the Cockroaches before enjoying the Australian hit movie The Sapphires under the stars. Residents visit Sculptures by the Sea Residents of Yaralla House had the opportunity to participate in a tactile tour of Sculptures by the Sea in Bondi last year. The tour was run in partnership with the Red Room Company and included a session with poet Candy Royalle who worked with the participants to create a poem in situ, using the words they related to one sculpture. The tactile tour and poetry session gave the participants the opportunity to think creatively and develop their personal responses to the sculpture through sensory experience on a beautiful day overlooking the iconic coastline. Festival returns in 2017 Sydney Local Health District is excited to welcome back the Yaralla Festival on Sunday, 10 September in 2017 to celebrate the beautiful Yaralla Estate surrounds. Planning for this year’s event is already underway, with family favourite activities the dog show, activity passport and wonderful entertainment all to return. Keep the date free and stay tuned for more updates about the festival times at www.shld.nsw.gov.au/ Yaralla. Have you seen the video from the 2016 Yaralla Festival? Heart of heritage

Lois Michel is a Concord icon. When the City of Canada Bay Heritage Society formed in 1969, she was its first secretary.

Almost five decades later, Lois remains passionate about the heritage of the suburb she has lived in for 65 years.

“I bought a house in Concord in 1952 and I’ve lived in the same house since. Concord has lost its small village atmosphere, which is normal in these times, but it’s still a good place to live.”

When she first moved in, Lois knew nothing of the Dame Eadith Walker Estate, which sits on 37 hectares.

Through her role with the Heritage Society, Lois has become invested in the estate and its history.

“It is a gem. Such beautiful grounds situated to close to the central business district, still on the original land grant.”

As a member of the Yaralla Estate Advisory committee, Lois hopes many in the area can enjoy the Yaralla Estate and be more aware of its history and beauty.

“It is a truly unique part of history and it needs to be preserved.”
