Yanco Public School…….Towards a better world 3

Principal’s News Dear Parents and Carers, After our first full week of school Yanco Public School Kindergarten students have settled in well and classrooms are buzzing with learning and fun. K-6 enjoyed participating in their Wednesday group activities yesterday. We had some great helpers in the kitchen and lots of fun dancing and creating colourful potions. A reminder that our ‘Welcome to 2019’ barbecue will take place tomorrow evening under the school COLA. Thank you to all parents and carers who have offered to bring items for the evening. The P and C will provide snow cones for the evening and the sausages for the barbecue. Please take note of the following:

• Open classrooms 5.00pm-6.00pm • Kindergarten Information session 5.30pm-6.00pm • Food to be served 6.30pm

LNPSSA Knockout Cricket Well done Dakoda Cross, Tristan Capstick, Seth Thornton, Henry Arnall and Tom Strachan, thank you for representing Yanco Public School and participating in the Small Schools team last Friday. It was great to hear back that you had a great day, played well and all tried your best. Thank you to Jason Cross and Kay Strachan for your assistance on the day.

Swimming Training It is pleasing to see so many of our students 8 years and over attending our swimming training sessions. Thank you to Miss Wright and Mr Powter for attending the sessions and to our parents and carers for assisting with transport. Please note that our Small Schools Swimming Carnival will take place next Wednesday, February 13th 2019 at Whitton Swimming Pool. Transport by Allens Bus.

• Students 8 years and over will attend the swimming carnival and remain at Whitton pool all day.

• Students in K.1 (5-7 years) will participate in water fun activities at Whitton Murrami Public School and will walk to the Whitton Swimming Pool at lunch time.

Learning Support Our learning support sessions commenced this week on Tuesday and Wednesday with Mrs Haines. Students across K-6 requiring extra support to meet learning outcomes have been identified and allocated individual or small group session 20 minute time slots. Notes will be sent home to parents and carers regarding the learning support sessions in the coming weeks. Students are also supported in the classroom by Mrs Strachan Monday through to Thursday. Stage 3 LNPSSA Basketball On Friday, February 15th 2019 some of our Stage 3 students will participate in the Small Schools team. Students in Year 5 and Year 6 will be given the opportunity to try out for the team prior to next Friday. Scripture Sessions Scripture will commence on Tuesday, February 19th at 12.40pm through until lunch time. Roll lists are compiled for scripture sessions based on the information provided in enrolment forms. Students who do not participate in scripture will remain in class participating in normal class activities. Lunch Time Detention This year students who do not complete their classroom work or neglect to follow the school core values in the classroom and playground will miss out on play at lunch time. Students will complete tasks with the timetabled teacher in their classroom. Information will be recorded by the student, class teacher, detention teacher and parent or carer. If students are repeatedly attending detention sessions this will affect their chance of attending the end of term Reward Day. Yanco Public Little Learners We are pleased to announce that Little Learners will again run in 2019. The program will commence on Friday, 1st March 2019 and will take place every Friday morning from 9.30am till midday. It will be staffed by Mrs Kara Kroek and Mrs Kay Strachan and all children 3-5 years of age are welcome to attend. We have once again capped the program at 20 students and the school has an enrolment policy for Little Learners to ensure students enrolling in Kindergarten at Yanco Public School have priority placement. PB Award This year we are again presenting the PB Award each week at the morning assembly. The recipient will be a student who displays their ‘Personal Best’ during the previous week. This links directly with our school value of ‘Excellence’, the school definition of which is ‘having high expectations and putting maximum effort into everything you attempt’. Captains & Kinders A photographer from The Irrigator will visit the school tomorrow, Friday 8th February to photograph our 2019 Kindergarten students and school captain. They will be featured in the Irrigator’s Captains and Kinders insert which will be published in the coming weeks. 2018 Yanconia Orders are again being taken for the 2018 Yanconia. A survey sent out in 2018 indicated that the majority of families would prefer to pay $5 for a full colour copy although black and white copies will be available free for families that request it. Year 6 students receive a free colour copy as a farewell gift from us. Please indicate your preference on the slip attached to this newsletter and return with money if applicable.

News from the Office Sometimes the school requires parent’s assistance in transporting children, other than their own, to and from sporting events or small excursions in their private vehicles. It is a DEC mandatory policy that driver’s transporting children other than their own supply the school with a copy of their driver’s licence, car registration and complete a Working with Children Check – Declaration for Volunteers. If you plan on assisting the school by transporting students, can you please bring these documents to the office. If any of your children have a medical condition, for example asthma, we are required by the Department to have an action plan from their doctor. Please provide this information to the school office as soon as possible to enable us to update our records and treat your child accordingly. We thank you for your assistance in these matters.
