Principal’s News Welcome back to Week 6 of Term 4! Last year the school made a submission to Roads and Maritime Services to have Main Avenue declared a 40 kph school zone, with additional flashing lights to be installed. In fantastic news the school has been successful in our submission for additional flashing lights, with these being installed in Main Avenue last week, which work in addition to the flashing lights in Cudgel Street to protect our students. Please be aware that the local Highway Patrol is now actively patrolling the new school traffic zone. Light Up Leeton Light Up Leeton will take place on Sunday, 4 December at Mountford Park, Leeton. The school will once again perform at the annual concert. To assist Miss Grigg with organisation and rehearsals it would be appreciated if you could advise the school if your child will be, or will not be, participating in the concert by returning the note sent home yesterday. Year 5-6 Excursion Year 5-6 will travel to Borambola Sport and Recreation Camp for their 3 day excursion next week. Borambola will provide students with the ultimate learning challenge with programs providing active learning through fun and rewarding personal challenges and help students realise their potential in decision-making, problem-solving, resilience, team building and leadership. Please ensure all permission notes and the full cost of the excursion is sent to the school by next Tuesday, 22 November 2016. Leeton High School Orientation Day Parents of students in Year 6 who will be attending Leeton High School in Year 7 2017 are advised that the Leeton High School Year 7 Orientation Day will be held on Tuesday, 29 November 2016. Any parents who have yet to return their Year 7 enrolment forms are requested to do so immediately. A Parent Information Evening will also be held on the same date. Primary Assembly Parents and all community members are invited to attend the last Primary Assembly for 2016, which will be held on Thursday, 1 December 2016, commencing at 10.30 am under the COLA. During the assembly students will be presented with Merit Awards. Please stay for morning tea after the assembly. Merit Awards All students eligible for a Merit Award at the Week 8 Primary Assembly are asked to have awards handed to the front office by Tuesday, 29 November 2016 in order for awards to be published for the assembly. This will also be the last opportunity for students to obtain a Home Reading Award, so all students are encouraged to hand their Home Reading Diaries to Mr Allen to ensure you receive an award if eligible. School Reports Staff have commenced preparing the Semester Two student reports. These will be sent home with students on Wednesday, 14 December 2016.
School Uniform The wearing of school uniform builds school pride and a sense of belonging in students. All items of clothing in the school uniform are available from the school office, which is open Monday,
Tuesday and Thursday. If any parents or carers are having difficulty purchasing items of school clothing, please contact the office
Sports Report Athletics Carnival I would like to take the opportunity to thank all the parents and members of the school community who visited the school last Thursday to help or participate in our Athletics Carnival. It was another fantastic school event, which was highlighted by the student’s participation and sportsmanship on the day. Sporting Schools The last session of our Term 4 Sporting Schools program ‘Game On’ with Brumbies Rugby Union Development Officer Seth Stoltenburg will take place next Tuesday, 22 November 2016. Yesterday Mr David Bruce from Orima Research visited the school as part of a research project, evaluating the program on behalf of the Federal Government, who have spent 100 million dollars to improve children’s access to community sporting organisations. Thank you to staff and parents who agreed to be interviewed by David for this process. Bike Day Bike Day will take place tomorrow, Friday, 18 November 2016. The regular route through the Murrumbidgee Forest has been changed due to the flood and students in Years 3-6 will now ride their bikes out Research Road and back, departing from the rear entrance of the school in Progress Street. Parent helpers will be needed to assist by riding with the students. School Swimming K-6 School Swimming will again take place this year. At this stage it is planned for the program to run the same as last year, with Miss Laura Brindley, an AUSTSWIM accredited instructor, assisting with the program. The intensive swimming program will take place from Monday 28 November 2016 to Friday 9 December 2016, from approximately 11.30 am to 12.30 pm each day. Parents and volunteers will be required to assist with the running of the program again this year. The permission note for this year’s program is attached to this week’s newsletter. Please assist with the organisation for this program by returning the note as quickly as possible.
P and C News Meeting Monthly meetings of the Yanco Public School P & C are now held on the second Thursday of every month. Meetings are attended by the school principal, Mr Timothy Allen, and are a major opportunity for consultation with the school community. The last meeting scheduled for the year was set to take place in the library on Thursday, 8 December 2016, commencing at 3.30 pm. Due to a clash with the Year 6 Farewell, a new date will be advised Canteen As most parents and carers should be aware, the school canteen will now operate every Thursday, with a fixed menu ‘meal deal’ being offered each week. The canteen will be operated on alternating weeks by P & C parent volunteers and the Year 6 Student Leadership Team
