    YAANA ( SIRSI )

    Yaana, in the heart of the thick woodsof Western Ghats, is a pilgrim center as well as atourist destination placed amongst theevergreen picturesque forest of the SahyadriMountains. The place, small coastal town and acommercial center, is known for its imposingmountains, very different kinds of rocks andstones, gushing misty water falls and the mostSacred -Temples.

    There was a proverb in this area that only thosewith tremendous bravery and determinationcan go to Yana, personifies the trek to Yana ofthe past, really an adventurous deed. Yana alsomoves on the evolution of modern world withmotorable roads, fantastic hotels and theemerging modern civilization, of course, with itsown ills.The impressive rocks have been roughened inthe due course by the extreme conditions of sun,hysterical winds and heavy rains. It is of theopinion that Yana is a must for hikers and

    trekkers - they will be delighted with Yana.

    One peak stands 400 feet tall and is calledBhairaveshwari Shikhara while the other standsat 300 feet and is called the MohiniShikhara. Legend has it that here Lord Vishnuassumed the female form of Mohini and killedthe demon Bhasmasura. Yaana Hills is a greatplace for everyone the jungle hiker, naturelover, pilgrim and for the more adrenalinseeking rock climber.

    dinner ,one snack coffee/tea) , simple night stay and expert guidance (from thereporting to the concluding part of the trek).

    Trekking is conducted in a non-luxurious environment in far villages, so you haveto kindly adjust to the circumstances infrastructure which is available there.

    MARIKAMBA TEMPLE (SIRSI)

    Travellers on a trip to Sirsi must visitthe 17th century Sri Marikamba Templethat is located in Sirsi, Uttara Kannada,Karnataka. Devotees visit this temple tooffer prayers to a 7 feet high statue of awooden deity. According to local belief, thewooden statue of Goddess ShriMarikamba, the deity worshipped inUttara and Dakshin Kannada, was foundin a tank on the outskirts of the town.

    In 1611, Sadashiva Rao II, the King ofSonda, gave orders to install the woodendeity at this place. This idol is considered tobe the biggest idol and site devoted toMarikamba in Karnataka .

    SAHASRA LINGAThere are hundreds of the stoneswith Shiva Linga carved on them bythe side or river 'Shalmala'. Becausethese uncountable carvings, the placegets the name "Sahasra Linga"(thousand lingas). Every year on theday of 'Shivaratri' hundreds of peoplevisit this place to worship Lord Shiva.When the water level is not highenough you can actually see all thosecarvings. Best time would winter and

    early summer. This place is on the wayto Yellapur from Sirsi at about 17kmsfrom Sirsi. After Bhairumbe you willhave to get down at a bus-stopcalled Hul Gol bus-stop and walktowards Hulgol and from the mainroad it is around 2kms distance.
