15Minuteprac@ceguide1) Play something you already know for warm up (anything)

2) Play your focus piece all the way through without stopping (ignoring mistakes)

3) Play the most difficult bar of music (5-8 notes) 3x slow/medium/fast

4) Play a whole section of music including the most difficult bar 10x (in musical context)

5) Memorise the easiest section of music. Play the passage only slightly glancing at the notes; repeat this

until you don’t have to glance at the notes at all. Face away from the page and play 3x from memory.

6) Create your own melody using the same notes as the song you’re learning. Consider playing a repeated

idea 3x followed by a new musical idea.

7) Repeat step 3 & 4

8) Play a song using a backing track from the schools ‘FRONTER’ page or YOUTUBE Channel

9) Make a recording or show someone what you’ve improved upon in this practise session

10) Pack away your equipment and tidy the space you are in

Y5 Trombone - Term 1 Outcomes:Description of Saxophone Performance Target to improve

Not Yet Working Towards

(lack of practise)

• Little control over the instrument due to lack of practise • Performance of Pitch and Rhythm lack confidence • Some notes sound ‘muffled’ and require more control • Lots of hesitations in the performance

• Memorise the slide positions for Bb C D Eb F • Check in the mirror for correct mouthpiece placement • Play each note confidently at a slow tempo • Use the 15 minute practise guide at home

Working Towards (hesitation)

• I can perform the music with some hesitations • I can play Bb C D Eb F confidently and hold most of the

long notes for full value • I need to practise using the slow and fast air more

confidently so all Bbs and Fs sound correct • I need to continue to practise tonguing each note so they

sound clear and confident

• Practise changing from Bb & F with a focus on using slow and fast air to change pitch

• Have correct hand position on slide and bell section

Working At (confident)

• I can perform confidently and can keep playing even if a minor mistake happens (no stopping and starting again)

• I can play Bb C D EbF confidently and hold all the long notes for full value

• I can use slow and fast air confidently so all Bbs and Fs sound correct and I always use my tongue for each note

• I am able to stay in time with the piano accompaniment or backing track at a medium tempo

• Practise alternating between Bb & F with a focus on mastering slow and fast air

• During your individual practise, play for 5 minutes without stopping. This may include performing the musical fitness sheet twice through Love Yourself to build up your stamina.

• Use a metronome and perform music at different tempos.

Working Beyond

(fluent)

• I can perform confidently at a faster tempo (possibly memorised) with piano accompaniment or backing track.

• I can play the extended ending (challenge task) • My performance sounds confident, fluent and

professional

• Memorise your performance • Use a metronome and perform the music at a faster

tempo • Learn new music from outside of Big Band lessons • Join a Music enrichment
